We have a BRAND NEW Umarex Gauntlet unboxing!! .22 cal PCP Air Rifle, but how many pumps does it take to fill the air tank?
In this video we’ll see how exhausted we get pumping the Umarex Gauntlet and discover how many pumps from a hand pump it takes to fill the air rifle.
I have recently become an affiliate with Airgun Depot; you can support my channel grabbing your own UMAREX Gauntlet! You can pick up the Umarex Gauntlet here:

It’s best to pump 25-30 times- rest- and repeat. It allows the pump to cool down and cooler air fills it faster. I’m 76 years old and that’s the way I do it.

The younger kids today are mostly complete idiots . If they would have watched even one youtube video they would have seen the correct way to fill the gun and its really hard on the pump without letting it cool down and pumping to fast . They have no idea that you don't want to get the 0-rings hot . I'm sorry but kids their age are not very smart at all . I'm 61 and I can fill my gun from empty to 200 bar and not even effect my breathing because I take slow steady pumps and give it a few minutes break like your doing .

Leave it in my bedroom and then instead of doing sit ups in the morning pump x amount of times with my arms pump x amount of times with squats pump x amount of times with crunches. Whene you stop pumping it does get harder, because you have let the pump cylinder fill with air. Fast strokes of the pump, cylinder never really gets filled. That’s why you should pump slow, this allows the pump to draw air in. This way the pump stays cooler and your pumping more air per stroke.
@airgunnersc9335
@airgunnersc9335 5 лет назад
I agree with you. The guy has a you tube channel and should watch an instructional review of using a high pressure pump. Everything was wrong with the pumping
@TheDollarSportsman
@TheDollarSportsman 5 лет назад
I actually tried that out the next day and saw little difference in the number of pumps it took; in fact, I wound up more exhausted going slower. But then again, you recruit more muscle energy when working out slower for bigger gains, so I guess the same advantage applies here! 😎 So the only noticeable difference would be if you’re looking for more of a cardio workout or for bigger gains on the air pump 💪
@airgunnersc9335
@airgunnersc9335 5 лет назад
@@TheDollarSportsman By pumping at a very fast rate you burn up the seals in the pump as it gets too hot. That is why pumping at a slow rate is recommended
@TheDollarSportsman
@TheDollarSportsman 5 лет назад
Now that is true; in fact, I believe that is the real reason why it gets harder to pump after you stop for a second. I think it has more to do with the seals swelling due to the heat. I’ve ignored that since the pump wasn’t too hot to touch after using it, but I can almost guarantee I’m wearing my seals out far too rapidly by pumping fast.
@wileydr

@@k_e_n_n_y_mccormick what I meant was in money wise it's a yes for a hand pump, but it takes a very long time and so much effort to fill your airgun. For scuba tanks, you will need to go to a store to refill your tank. That's why I bought a mini compressor, three-four times the price from a hand pump but very easy and practical to use, less than 10 minutes for 200 bar and you're ready to shoot again, and not much of price difference between a scuba tank and a mini compressor.

considering it takes 12 pumps to really charge a normal hand-sprayer, and 10 pumps to fill a crossman 2100 to a lowly 800ish psi for 1 shot , 200 pumps to go to that much volume at that pressure isn't all that bad. Keep hand-pumping, it's good exercise. You'll also like to top the gun off more often, I have found. Look on the bright side, it took upwards of 1000 pumps with the small bore, single stage pump to fill a Girandoni air rifle reservoir to 800 psi, which was expended in less than 40 shots lol. We've made progress :P

I have two questions: 1. Can you spread out this effort through, say, a whole day ? Like having the gun lay there and pump 20 strokes every hour or so ? This would certainly make this much more fun (for me, at least). 2. Suppose you shoot 40 times. How many pumps are required then to get back at full ?
@TheDollarSportsman
@TheDollarSportsman 2 года назад
Yes, as long as you don’t have any major leaks; to get back to 3000 psi from about 1700ish psi wouldn’t be bad at all, I’d say 120 pumps or so. Though I do recommend getting an old scuba tank off of eBay and recertifying it. It costs as much as the pump after buying the adapter for it and will save you loads of time :).

Incorrect way of pumping. Pump slower and count 1 2,3 at the top and bottom of pump. Need to pause at top and bottom to let the internal pump mechanism work correctly. IT WILL ALSO PUMP THE GUN UP FASTER. Also use some pure silicone diving grease on the shaft. Helps the life of the orings immensely. My 1st Benjamin pump died in 1 year. The 2nd one is 3 years old and still working fine because of the silicone grease.

There are some solid chemicals that you can mix that expand into gas rapidly. I wonder if someone could use these chemicals to make an airgun that you don't need to pump. You could contain the rapidly expanding chemicals in a self contained tube with the projectile at the end but you would need a way to initiate the reaction. Maybe a small amount of explosive? I'm surprised that I'm the first person to think of this.
@lawabidingcitizen5153
@lawabidingcitizen5153 2 года назад
You could probably do that by filling it with Hydrogen from Hydrochloric acid and Aluminium or possibly iron to better control the reaction speed, you could probably ensure the correct pressure pretty easily by simple stoichiometric calculations, but how would you make sure no acid seeps into the air chamber and I'd imagine the small molecular size of Hydrogen would make it harder to contain too

I’m new to all this air rifle stuff, how many shots would you get out of all that pumping?
@TheDollarSportsman
@TheDollarSportsman 4 года назад
In the Umarex Gauntlet, 60 consistent shots before the regulator begins to drop pressure.

I think I heard you say that you are a engineer. My question to you is how many pounds of downward force does it take on the downward Stroke of a pcp hand pump at it's highest point

Did your new one come with 1 or 2 magazines? There was only one when you opened the box, then a second one appeared out of nowhere. I need to know as my 25 is on the way and I need to order more. Didn't want to get to many mags if you know what I mean. Thanks for the help on this. Man! What a workout....

My old 1980s Daystate says 3000psi. Connect it and pump. I cant detach pump connector from rifle. Why?
@TheDollarSportsman
@TheDollarSportsman Год назад
You have to degass the hose using the pressure release on the pump then you should be able to get it off :)

That was flat empty out of the box though, you are never going to run it that low In everyday use. 200 pumps takes a kral puncher from the bottom of the green to full and the bottle on that thing is HUGE.

Could you use a regular plug in air compressor?
@TheDollarSportsman
@TheDollarSportsman 3 года назад
No most regular compressors aren’t powerful enough, but there are Airgun compressors that go up to 4500 psi

Just got my umarex gauntlet. 22 like the one u got. same pressure guage brand, and came with 0 psi.. waiting for my hand pump to arrived.. is your rifle tank holding air ?? Any leak ?? Thanks.
@oilburner8548
@oilburner8548 3 года назад
When you pump that fast you build up heat and heat = moisture going into your riffle = not good.
@stevew145
@stevew145 Год назад
Probably would have been a bit faster if your pump wasn't leaking... 7:25 it shouldn't fall like that. 7:45 the gauge on your pump shouldn't drop like that when you stop pumping.

PCP guns are no fun if you have a hand pump. Scuba tanks are available on CL for free. I got 2 tanks that way.
