If you think about it, attempting this challenge for ourselves would actually be really easy, we’d just need to play the game normally, making sure to not go over 6375 starbits.

@@flammable7961 which is why I wish he'd have totaled the numbers he skipped before discounting them cause if you're going to do a gdq self imposed donation restriction like $1 per star bit collected in levels, the spirit of this video and challenge was minimizing that number. The number we never got to hear. You're right that just collecting as many as you want without being careful as long as you stay in the 6k budget makes this challenge trivial.

I recently fully finished Mario galaxy, including the Luigi galaxy portion and then the final 121 star twice for Mario and Luigi. I saw your super Luigi galaxy livestream and felt motivated to replay the game again. It was nice because it meant I had fully finished 3D all stars.

I think some of the star bits in levels can be skipped with a midair jump (such as some of the ones in dreadnaught). I guess it doesn’t matter because of the hungry lumas, but it’s just an idea.

I think the Bubble Blast one should be possible with no star bits. If you can fit between the starbits on one side, you can fit between them on the other sides as well. There's enough room to move your cursor around too. It would be really tight though.

The star bits at the end of the vine in honeyhive galaxy are avoidable from what I remember. You can go on the vine, but you have to slide down, so you just have to not press the y button and not shake the controller (if you're using joycons or a pro controller)

You know I tried this challenge before people started doing it on RU-vid with Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon. Now I would love to see Nico do a challenge like that with Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon 2. Like I did back in I think it was 2016 I believe that's when I did that challenge.

The 5 Starbits you collect at the beginning you actually don't have to collect them. Just walk out the room and back in. It will let you enter the level without feeding luma

To be honest, since you have to feed the hungry lumas anyway, you don't even need to work to avoid starbits if you are going for 100% completion

I wouldn't get too beaten up about collecting a few star bits here and there in collecting every star because to feed the Hungry Lumas on the Comet Observatory you need thousands of bits. So, collecting just a few wouldn't be that bad.

Soon enough, I'll have in my posession the japanese version of 3D all-stars. (AKA, Super Mario 3D collection.) My research tells me it will still play in english, it's just a fun little novelty. Also, the logo is way off center on the US release's cart. wut. Can't wait to be playing Galaxy on the go!

I do think if you play ot smart, you can constrain the starbits you pick up while playing to a part of the hungry luma food

Hey, you can discount the starbits you got from same galaxies because you feed them to the hungry lumas in the observatory. So you should only add up all of the hungry luma's starbits and that's it. Edit: Oh, he knows.

now imagine the horror on knowing that ya need... 9,999 star bits in hand to unlock the hidden reward... changing all coconuts into watermelons! for if ya count that as somethin needed for 100% then... lord have mercy! either way, being able to avoid so many bits... whew, das skill, for my own instincts on wanting them all would do me in!
