What if they use nutrients like sugar water to help?

Who in “ye old days” saw a maple tree and said: Ah, yes, I shall harvest tree sap for food consumption! These are the real questions that run through my mind.

Mine as well. Such as fermentation… depending on what it is, it can be a complicated process. How did they know??

native americans probably saw sap coming out of maple trees when one got split in half or fell over or when getting wood and one of them tasted it probably

I've never tried maple syrup- I don't think anyone uses it at all in my country, but we drink birch juice every spring. If it is real, then it is a really pleasant and refreshing drink, a slightly sweet drink. I once saw a jar of birch syrup, but considering that tens and hundreds of liters of juice go for a hundred grams of this, I generally consider such a thing to be the most overcomplicated product I know about.

There is such a thing as birch syrup. You need about 400 gallons for a gallon. Very expensive.
@MeMeDaVinci

You missed the most important part...yes, needing 40 gallons to boil down to one gallon. The process takes a consistent temperature of boing, not up and down, to get the color and clarity. It's not syrup when tapped, it's clear and sweet 😘🥰

Boiling, lol, not boing!

Things in my Biology class just clicked!! Starch is a polysaccharide that serves as a major energy storage molecule in plants. Its composed glucose units joined together by glycosidic bonds (carbohydrates). Plants synthesize starch during photosynthesis and store it in various parts, including roots, seeds, and tubers. Ha!!!!!!! I get it now!!!!!!!

So maple syrup when freshly drained from the tree the syrup is thin and when processing it becomes thick. Cool I didn’t know that 👍🏼😎

When the sap is harvested, it looks exactly like pure water. Later in spring, it coild become a little trouble. Taste lightly sweet (sugar concentration is about 2 to 3 %)
@henrichoubascol2803
@henrichoubascol2803 8 месяцев назад
Oh! And No, you don't harvest syrup... you harvest sap (water) and you make syrup by boiling to evaporate most of the water and concentrate the sugar

I found Great River once. It's from Iowa and was better than any other I have tried. Aldi's brand is pretty good for the price, it's one of the thinner ones.

What's going to happen when the ground doesn't freeze? We're getting warmer climates in the north of America.. Wonder if it's going to change up the quality and amount of maple syrup taped this next common couple years
