In the summer of 1955 I was in a gay bar in New York and Marlon Brandon came in, stood near the doorway, looked around for several minutes and left. Back then we had no way of knowing if someone was gay, but this gave us as much proof as we needed.

Anyone who hasn't done so, read Brando's autobiography, "Brando: Songs my mother taught me". He talked about Dean in one of his chapters. I recall him saying that he was at a party in Hollywood, and he saw Dean walk in and take off his jacket throw it like Brando had done in some movie he did. Brando knew that Dean was a big fan of his and felt that Dean was going about it the wrong way with that. He pulled Dean aside and told him that he shouldn't try and copy him so much if he wanted to long term survive in Hollywood. He felt that Dean should just try and be his own original self instead trying to copy him. He was sad when he heard the news of Dean's death and went on to mention that he felt that Dean would have been one of the biggest and actors of Hollywood, even more so than him.

I'm 75 & before this video, have never seen a single picture of Dean & Monroe together! Time wise, it could have happened, but remember, Monroe was 5 years older than Dean & just reaching 'super-stardom' when Dean died in 1955!

Marilyn and James met each other once according to Shelley Winters. She wrote about it in her first memoir. She said James circled her and Marilyn on the road with his motorcycle as a practical joke, and then they all hung out together at Nicolas Ray’s bungalow at the Chateau Marmont. According to Shelley, James and Marilyn didn’t care for each other. However after his death, Marilyn put up a photo of James on the set of of Bus Stop as a tribute to him. The photo of Marilyn looking at him sideways....in the original photo she is looking at Arthur Miller, her husband at that time, This video (and others they post) are just as bad as the National Enquirer of today (some facts mixed with "hear-say", A waste of time. .

I heard the same thing. Apparently on the set of apocalypse now there were three mailboxes on set for his sick amusement. On Don Juan demarco, it was unplugged refrigerators, and on The Godfather a car was on set specifically for glovebox use.

Everyone says that, but the boy was very unstable and self-destructive. Harsh as it sounds, his self-imposed, premature death was very most likely the best thing that could have happened to his Thespian immortality. He died at the "peak of his promise", preserved at a youthful twenty-four. Had he lived, he would have messed up through his own deterioration and wound up a diseased has-been that the world would have felt sorry for- like Brando. Either that or he would have run away back to the Indiana he hated, to raise pigs.

OK those rumors were never confirmed Age but Brando had definitely a dominating, seductive,manipulative, egotistical personality. And that’s facts. Look what he has done to rita moreno. He just drove her to suicide. What’s sure is that Brando and Dean were both interested in each others work like with Clift. There was some kind of rivalry.

I'd take some assertions here with a grain of salt. Brando was certainly involved with men, for sure. He was great actor but as the saying goes; what does it profit a man to gain the world yet lose his soul? I don't mean that in a religious way, he later had such tragic family disasters. His distance from his children resulted in such pain for the kids. Brando was such a talented actor but not a nice man; so many books on him still kept him at a distance for me until the one that really got behind the facade. Cloris Leachman's husband worked for Brando for years. his book reveals a lot. I recommend it: George England, The Way It's Never Been Done Before.

Somewhere on RU-vid or a random tv show, I heard some of the interview tapes recorded by Brando. He confessed that he enjoyed recording all of his telephone conversations with friends. He often identified himself as "Bran flakes". He also stated that when he died, he wanted to be buried next to the love of his life and soul mate, Wally Cox. His words.

Judy Garland sang a song at her party once for SL. You never know. Shelley Winters was her friend and she had stories on everyone. Tallulah and Hattie McDaniel stories had me thinking WOW!! I have heard that they were involved alot of times. Enough to believe that they were together. Also have heard about several other times each of them were with different men. So I believe it. I mean they were both very attractive young men that enjoyed a good sex life. No reason to judge them. When I was younger I also had a very good sex life with both men & women. Dean was in high school in 1949. He did not come to NYC until Fall 1951 and was not invited to join Actors Studio until 1952. He died in 1955. While it may be true that he was Involved with Brando, the dates are wrong and encapsulated.

Also I would love it if you would do a video on Danny Kaye. I loved every movie I saw him in. When I was younger I also had the acting bug. I even took acting and dance classes. This is wild speculation, Brando was open about having affairs with women and men. Most notably with Wally Cox. It was a deep friendship as well, one that both men cherished. Brando, knowing the voracious sensationalist nature of the public and media, hated the limelight in this respect. Dean also was said to be bisexual, had a fascination with the older Brando. The image of them here is fake. A poor attempt at making them look as if they’re kissing. There’s even a photo here of Dean being intimate with a woman which is the photo they’ve used with Brando. Until verification of any tryst between them emerges, just leave this specious titillation be. Two great icons of the 50’s, one who’s life was tragically cut short too soon. Shame on whoever put this together.

Dean and Brando, apart from the odd photo taken when Brando visited a Dean film set, never knew each other. That Dean admired Brando's acting is all the relationship there was. Like Clift, Brando was not a fan of Dean's intensity and had no interest in him. Age of Vintage should be removed from You Tube - it is nothing more than a scandal sheet full of bullshit. Seems more like a fantasy wank. There's one on Paul Newman's sexual relationship with Brandon deWilde. The only connection they ever had was appearing in the film "Hud".

You can "imagine" - that's the operative word here, because this is complete and total fantasy, salacious details made up for who knows why. Brando disliked James Dean and would never allow him into his apartment, for any reason whatsoever. In an interview in Japan that Brando gave in 1957, he was asked about James Dean and stated, "Let me just be clear, he and I were never friends". Not friends, so no relationship at all! Yet these rumors persist. It is just so weird that people will believe anything that someone puts out on the internet. Let's be clear about another thing: James Dean had no trouble whatsoever attracting either men or women who wanted a relationship with him, so I doubt he was "desperate for affection".

But all too often excessive sexual relationships is a clear sign of the longing for affection. Everyone--except you, apparently--knows that. Having multiple sexual partners does not necessarily equate to emotional fulfillment, sometimes its a cry for a desire for emotional attachment & fulfillment.

So many books about James Dean and the rumors swirl! One thing is sure: James struggled to break into the movies and unfortunately, in those days studio heads expected sex as the price for both females and males to get into movies. In one of the books James confessed that he was tired of these people inviting him for dinner and the inevitable shower after dinner, etc. Poor James was always a victim in his life starting with being an 8 year old and losing his mother. We need to appreciate that whatever happened: James Dean was a victim and did what needed to be done for survival!

Thanks the effort, I always like learning more about people I admire, in a way to honor their memory, especially Dean, because he tragically died young Brando squandered his talent), but this presented no such opportunity. Rumors is the right word, and it begs the question, “Why propagate them and reward authors and You Tubers who feed off the souls who don’t have real lives and wallow in misinformation?” The short answer, of course, is money. One observation too: For the American audience, the clever use of the English accent gives all this pure gossip the air of legitimacy, notwithstanding the disclaimer at the end. We live more and more in a vicarious age, living thru others because as the world gets bigger we get smaller, we feel less power and significance. Our dot is shrinking, leaving an ever widening void. Social media fills this void, often with gossip, and certainly with misinformation, which is the death of truth, witness our politics. But then for most who follow this site, this won’t register. They’ll read this burping coke listening to Sting, “Be yourself, no matter what they say”. Oops forgot, you’re wondering who Sting is!

What I can't understand is why Brando's movie Wild One was never thought of as a gay movie. The movie script had gay written all over it. Watch how Marlon (Johnny) runs down the street with the crowd chasing after him or his biker outfit in leather/studs or his refusal to kiss his female admirer at the end of the movie. It was easy to see what Brando's predilection was. Obviously straight people had no idea what the film was about but this was somewhat common back in the day. It was not unusual for Hollywood to produce a movie that was perceived as heterosexual but had gay undertones subtle enough that the mainstream audience never caught on.

It looks like Marlon Brando very much enjoyed playing with his lovers minds and was a master at manipulation and he often chose younger lovers with less experience than he whom would be easily impressed. Rita Moreno learned this the hard way when she almost succeeded a suicide attempt because had forced her to have an abortion after she had told him she was pregnant with their child, and she would have succeeded if not for his assistant finding her in time and bringing her the nearest by hospital to have her stomach pumped of the pills she took. Only then did she start to let go of this obsession they had for each other and, chose life over him. And she was one of the lucky ones. She many times described him as her cocaine and compared herself to a drug addict as she would always go back to him despite the infidelities and mistreatment and he takes 3 whole chapters of her memoirs. Unfortunately some other lovers of his didn't know how to undo themselves of this obsession for him and had to pay for that full price. They all deserved better The 2 words toxic relationships were embodied in that man.

However, this is just a made up rumor. Nothing was ever confirmed. Brando wanted nothing to do with Dean as he was threatened by his acting ability. He would make disparaging remarks about James. James tried to reach out to Brando because he admired him as an actor, but Brando turned him down all the time. We know this factually happened. This video however, is based on rumor that were unlikely to be true based on Brando repeatedly turning down having anything to do with James. What we do know is Brando fucked anything. Doesn’t mean he and James ever got together. Especially, since Brando couldn’t stand James Dean.

All actors and in particular the " Method Actors" who excelled in transforming themselves into somebody else by drawing upon inner emotions and demons were all suffering from BI- Bolar disorder. Although this personality disorder would be a hinderous to a person in most professions it was a great benefit to an actor who could tap into the emotional swings and leverage them to become the character he was portraying in the movie. Brando showed this in Godfather when he portrayed Vito Corleone. The audience never got ANY SENSE that Vito was Brando acting the part. Even other actors in the production were not sure that it was really Brando. It was one of the most magnificent acting performances I have ever seen. The disorder also causes problems for these actors in private life and leads them to become viewed as "difficult to work with", "troubled:, "bi sexual" and "self centered". In addition, this disorder makes them seem to be more intelligent and more observant than the average person. They seek thrills that most people see as dangerous.

It must be very difficult to be the one actor in the world that every other actor in the world idolizes, and every woman (and gay or bisexual) person wants to go to bed with. I can't imagine what that would do to your ego. Everything I've seen of interviews with Brando tell me he fought that by being reclusive and withholding. He was relatively shy to begin with, and probably hated the vast notoriety that frequently robbed him of his privacy. Most great artists are probably bi-sexual. Not all of them play that out, but they know it about themselves. When you are an artist, there are no "lines" drawn between yourself and everyone and everything else. Your "way" is to encompass it all. You see the "bigger picture" and realize that sex/gender is not a straight line. As much as I adored him in all of his films, "Sayonara" is still my favorite. He's so tragically in love, it melts your heart.
