Marvel's Black Panther has created an absolute phenomenon. Starring Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa, the MCU movie gets all of Jack Kirby's lessons right. I break down why here.

T'Challa in many ways is like Bruce Wayne/Batman of the Nolan films. There are all of these colorful characters surrounding him who may steal the spotlight, but those films fall apart without the hero at the center and without the more subtle performances of the actors playing the main hero. T'Challa is my favorite character in Black Panther because he has the actual arc.

Killmonger was definitely a clear-cut villain without a doubt, I could understand his ultimate goal but his ways of achieving that goal where unjustifiable even considering his upbringing, he killed innocents and his methods of achieving his goal would have caused more destruction than good.
@traplover6357
@traplover6357 6 лет назад
Hope Simpson having good/bad goals doesn't mean you must use good/bad means. Killmonger only cater about a certain group of people, not all of humanity so he justifies his killings and destruction when it's not the people he's fighting for.

Traplover7 In a blaxploitation film Killmonger would be the hero of the story. Since his struggles is all about fighting da man.

Killmonger was definitely a villain to me, he would've endangered Wakanda as well. He wouldn't have cared about their safety. I've seen other characters like him and they always get worst.
@MrAsaqe
@MrAsaqe 5 лет назад
For Killmonger at least. You could sic him into Secret Empire and he would be right. The world is in such a fucked up state that going to war against a Hydra run America is justified especially with the Americops. That is what makes Killmonger an interesting character is that among the MCU cast, he is one of the few cases where the villain is right in a shared setting much like Doom was in Doomwar.

The reason why there isn't much talk about BP in his own movie is because he IS BP! From the moment he showed up in Civil War everyone was on board, there was no talk about Chadwicks performance or how the character was portrayed. Since that is the case everyone else in BP had to come up to his level. All hail the King!

Did you know that Coogler fought to keep an extra scene between Okoye and Wakabi from being cut but ultimately they cut it out. I would've helped develop the dynamic between those two characters and given insight on Wakabi's sudden turn against T'challa.

@marteenyo
@marteenyo 6 лет назад
Tbh I didn't really connect to Killmonger like most have. His idea for Wakanda to open up and help the people in need was noble but Nakia had the same idea first without basically planning a third world war. He was a great villain yes but he wasn't the misunderstood true hero of the story like a lot of people want to make it seem. T'Challa, Nakia, Shuri and Okoye are the ones who deserve the recognition, they were awesome.
@JustShin11
@JustShin11 5 лет назад
Not disagreeing with you about those characters cuz they are awesome but I think the reason why a lot of people resonate with killmonger because while it is true yes Nakia basically had the same worldview without the desire for World War 3 but ultimately I think about it like this. What to t'challa really reevaluated how best to rule wakanda and to use its resources had he not face such an adversary as killmonger? Nakia's voice alone wasn't enough as proven during the early scenes of the movie but recognizing what led to Eric becoming killmonger as to T'Challa says himself to his father during his second visit to the astral plane "Killmonger is a monster of our own making" meaning that it's not just enough to recognize that with wakanda's resources they could help the world but actually face such a monstrosity that could have been avoided had they done it earlier extreme is it is was ironically a silver lining because as you and I both know by the end of the film T'Challa sees his point he finally sees what Nakia has been saying to him all along. Sometimes we need a kick in the ass before we finally see a solution that was right in front of us all along

A little late with the comment but I havr not been receiving notifications.As usual love the video but I have to disagree with one think- Okoye was a great character.Not only was she a fun and strong character but She represented loyalty which is what Wakanda is all about,She was also a symbol of honesty.This is shown very well when she is asked to help find T'challa but She stays even though she wants to go as she is loyal to the king.Lastly,The actor gave a very good performance but you are allowed to have your opinion and this is just the way I saw her character

I think another reason Chadwick Boseman hasn't gotten as much attention for T'Challa as Michael B Jordan has for Killmonger is because Boseman already gave a fantastic performance as T'Challa in Civil War, so it was kind of expected that he would give another great performance here, which he absolutely did. It's the same reason that, as the main line of Marvel films go on, people talk less and less about the amazing performances that people like Robert Downey Jr or Mark Ruffalo are giving. We sort of get used to it (not in a bad way, mind you), so we don't feel the need to draw as much attention to it.

Ummm...... you do know Wesley Snipes was trying to get Black Panther made way back in the early 90’s right? Even before Blade! Think about trying to sell a bunch of White movie executives about an African prince/King that’s smart and technologically advanced. Sounds like a winner!! I remember being a kid trying to convince my dad to buy me a Black Panther comic.... those early books had some pretty horrid imagery. White guys writing Black people and culture......DON’T GO THERE, PLEASE!!

It also shows that there is a place in films and television for an action focused story that is centered around black people without butchering actual history *cough* Troy: Fall of a City *cough*. Well ok, Marvel already did that with Luke Cage but this one hammers the point home.

I didn’t really fully appreciate T’Challa until the second time through the film. For some reason it went sorta over my head the first time but the outburst where he shouts “All of you were wrong!” At the ancient kings gave me chills the second time I saw it. It’s the most emotion we’ve really ever seen him show, and it seems like the defining moment in which T’Challa realizes his role as the black panther and comes into his own

After seeing the deleted scene between Okoye and W’kabi, and the fact that they were married to each other, gives me a whole new feeling about their scene together. They should’ve kept that scene in!

These uploads are always a pleasant surprise. Btw, I've been wondering, any tips for someone interested in making video essays on RU-vid?

Look up Game Theory's video "Beyond Fidget Spinners" to get a good understanding on how the algorithm works and use his suggestions. Try to create a consistent upload schedule that you stick to. Most importantly though, write about something you're really interested in.

2 years late. Doesn't prove shit. The Dark Knight is still hailed as the best for good reason while Black Panther is kinda overrated
