@dmaxrcode it's difficult but it gets easier with practice. If you have adhd it's even more difficult, while the benefits you reap are also higher. There are successful doctors out there with adhd of which I know a few, they managed to get through 7 plus years of med school. Don't give up hope!
@dmaxrcode yeah that's a shitty situation. But I see you're focusing alot on outer things that are difficult for you to change. There's good reason to be critical of society, but if you're not actively trying to do your best to succeed in that framework in order to get to a position where you yourself can actively change whatever small part of it you can, you're contributing to that stalemate. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, because it is, but what I'm really trying to say is that it's easy too fall into the trap of being cynical, usually that only weighs you and others down though. Be the positive change you want to see, as corny as it sounds. And again, focus on things you CAN control. Those things you mention are rough, but they're not that life threatening tiger on the savannah that they might feel like they are. You don't need to let them cripple you from being constructive within your boundaries and improving your situation. I'm a big lefty guy, but I also do realize that alot of the reason we see low upward class mobility etc is not just because we inherit less money than richer people do, we also inherit a less entitled mindset. But you ARE just as entitled to succeeding within your limits, don't question yourself too much, become your own best friend and push yourself to help you succeed. All this said I'm Swedish so I don't have to put up with that bullshit, but even here I see people stuck in a destructive mindset, even though they get a ton of help and have every possibility to do better. And whenever you feel overwhelmed: focus on mindfulness being in the moment, and not weighing yourself down with destructive thoughts because those thoughts WILL DRAIN SO MUCH ENERGY and make you tired all the time. Just some tips, I'm cheering for you man. Be nice to yourself, it's not easy.
The beauty is as long as you bring your mind back to the current moment, you are in mindfulness, you are doing it. I definitely understand that feeling with ADHD. We tend to shame ourselves when we can’t focus our attention… And that only makes things worse layering shame on top of our what we perceive is our in adequacy. Keep the faith dear one as the power of the mind grows, we will create new neural pathways through this mindfulness and the Nuro plasticity of the brain.🙏💪💕
I have autism and adhd and practicing mindfulness has changed my life. I no longer assume the negative, when my trauma calls me an idiot or slow I recognize that it’s just a voice from the past and that I need to accept myself for who I am because I can be no one else. Thank Dr.Marks for making this powerful short video that I could easily share with others
Since I saw my friend's new born discover her little hands, I repeat the hands discovery ritual every time I wake up feeling depressed or every time I feel helpless. I look at my hands and start rotating and moving them right in front of my eyes and meditate that I have been given them and I can control their movements and I can use them to do many things. It always feels better. Doesn't matter what I can use them for. Maybe I can just lace my shoes, but it will feel just very right and empowering that I can do that.
Great tips! I’ve been practicing mindfulness as part of my sleep therapy and it really does help me relax better and not be so “ hurried”. You’re a wonderful doctor!
@@DrTraceyMarks hi can you give me so of your thoughts, I haven't slept in almost 27 years, I'm 52 years old, and I have cronic Interstitial cystitis, I've tried every medication that they doctor's comes out with no help, the pain is like urinary tract infection from 1 to 10 during the day it's a 3, at night it's a 6 its the worst at night every 15 minutes I go to urinate. All I think about when the next time I have to pee, I don't empty out my bladder, only small amounts. I see two psychiatrist one for depression and anxiety, the other for my Interstitial cystitis Can you talk about my dease when you can. Thanks🤗
This morning I sat outside with the dogs for a few minutes before I started getting ready. I paid attention to my surroundings. I'm going to try doing this more often
So this is why I play video games - easy to be in the moment. I had no idea I was practicing a life skill. The driving example is a great one too. To add to it, turn off the radio, roll down the windows, and just listen. Even if you're stuck in traffic. Really puts you in the moment.
Thanks so much Dr Marks. I have placed a bird feeder outside my window. When I work from home-or whenever I am unduly anxious- I try to remember to take a moment to watch the birds at the feeder. It calms me down, shuts off negative thoughts, and makes me laugh. When I return to my busy stressful tasks, my heart is much lighter and I can find gratitude once again.
I'm going through a terrible time, feeling stupid, incapable and that I failed in the profession I love most. The days are terrible and dark. Today I heard about Mindfulness. I went to RU-vid and listened in Portugues, I thought it was cool, so I did a challenge, listen and read in English on this channel. I'm doubly happy; I understood everything (I'm Brazilian) and I did what the Doctor told me to do. I'm feeling a little better. Thank you from the bottom of my hear
I have depression and anxiety and have found that being mindful and in the moment is one of the strongest tools I can use on the fly. It really slows your brain down positively and is like a form of on the run meditation. Great video.
I've attended the mindfulness program at a hospital 5 years ago, and that transformed my life so much. For the first time in many years I felt like I was living my life and loving it. Then a sequence of poor decisions was made and I'm back to my depressed self. I notice how my thoughts are often wandering in different directions, so many memories come to mind, and that's overwhelming. So I have to learn to live mindfully again, but this time I will make sure that I don't make choices that don't work for me.
Thank you! This is the best straightforward, no nonsense, no “hocus pocus” description and guidance of mindfulness that I have come across. Very helpful and useful video. 🙏
The hocus pocus is so irritating. Mindfulness is about acceptance, not calming down, or changing your energy flow. These notions corrupt this powerful, life changing concept. The most important thing I learned is that every time you come back to the present, you are practicing mindfulness. When you see it like that it teaches you to accept your current emotional state that is the powerful principle here. I just hate how people miss the point!
Thank you, I’ve noticed that Caring for children is one way to be mindful as they need our undivided attention to make sure they are safe etc. I’ve found that when I am being mindful I tend to not hear or see interruptions. So often I miss my stop when travelling on the tube if I chose to read a book or article. I often find my mind flooding with information and ideas of things to be done after a meditation period.
Thank you so much for this video. I had to watch this for my communication class. Not only did it help me for class but personal too. Sometimes my mind goes 100 mph. This Omg ❤ thank you!
As a senior bipolar with years of up and down experiences and way too much stress, Mindfulness found me about 14 year ago. Honestly, I think that every bipolar needs to incorporate this modality into their being. Once established it can break or lessen cycling...Thanks.
I've said this before, but Being around my kids was one way I lived life more mindfully. Just the way they see everyday life ... we were rushing to get errands done; without her I wouldn't have noticed the beautiful double rainbow in the sky... or just appreciating the colors of the sunset. It definitely makes a difference. I also leave my phone at home (when possible) when I'm out and about with my kids so I can give them my full attention. Sounds simple but slowing down and taking time to stop and smell roses definitely helps my mental health
I think this could be life changing for me if I would put it into practice! I always feel like worrying over an issue is somehow productive and not worrying is leaving me open for everything to fall apart. But even while I'm tempted to think this way, I kind of know it's irrational. I'm going to try this mindfulness and see how it goes!
Have you ever considered mindfully worrying? Worry is a waste but it’s also our brain trying to alert us to future dangers. When I mindfully worry I try to think about the problem and if the steps I need to take to resolve it. If it’s an irrational worry I tell my brain, “alright we will deal with this later” but I am answering my emotions rather than suppressing them.
I love your no nonsense approach to everything. I am a Veteran getting help through the VA with some mental conditions and part of my treatment is learning about mindfulness. This content was very helpful. Thank you Dr. Marks.
I’ve been doing the Waking Up app, and I love it! It’s just 10 minutes per day of mindfulness meditation. It takes some getting used to, but now it’s a necessary part of my day.
I don’t mean to be cheesy but this is really life changing. I’m becoming aware of how out of control I let my mind get. It helps to hear that we need to perposly focus our thoughts on what we are doing. And when other people are talking listening as if you would repeat what they are going to say. I’m hoping this will help me live more fully in the present moment. Thank you Dr. Marks this type of education is life changing 💕🙏
Thanks for this Dr. Marks- I am just beginning this mindfulness journey due to a difficult job change. The last point, listening to every word said, is particularly useful in my case since I have ADHD and it can be difficult for me not to interrupt in case I lose my train of thought. Anyway, it’s a day at a time thing right now until i get better at mindfulness. Thank you!
Amen! It changes everything to be truly present especially when we are having a conversation with children. They are totally in tune with you! Thank you!
I have watched several of your videos and wanted to just drop a thank you as l have found them to be both helpful and insighftful. Keep up the good work
This was exactly what I needed to hear and learn. It all makes perfect sense and I will put these practices to work right away. I felt even calmer after listening. Thank You :)
Really good. I did stop everything I was doing while listening to your voice in this video... I took in the information. Yes, being focused intentional one thing at a time is essential.
dr. you are changing my life in a very positive way. i have kind of rumination and I used mindfulness constantly for the last hour and i am already feeling so much better. thank you very much
Love these tips. One thing that helps me, is I'll think of 5 things I see, 5 things I physically feel (like my back up against a chair, my hair against my cheek, etc), things I can smell, etc.
Thank you Dr. Marks. Now I begin to understand what my wife means when she says "Live for the moment". She thinks I'm crazy because I talk to myself out loud about things that pop into my mind. I've always done so.
Four years ago, this wonderful woman uploaded this video for people just like me and possibly you to grow and learn from. Thank you. It really did help especially the dishes part.
I stumbled upon your channel a few months back and felt like you were talking directly to me. This type of information is so needed today in our society. I suffer from what you said is health anxiety and your excercises helped me understand how my behavior was contributing to my downward spiral. How can I setup therapy sessions with you? Thank you so much.
Thank you, Dr. Marks. I'm beyond grateful for your videos. You're doing an excellent job in explaining and simplifying complicated concepts. So much ❤ from the Philippines. 🇸🇽
🙏 Thanks you Dr. Tracey Marks, for the reminder of "Mindfulness and Stress," which we all should be doing. At one time in the past I used to practice it, and then I stopped. Your positive input information on the subject, gives me hope to get back on the band wagon of practicing Mindfulness more often and using your helpful youtube videos. God Bless...
This lady knows what she's talking about she's opening my eyes to a lot of questions I couldn't get answered by the psychiatrist I really appreciate this and all your videos thank you you're helping me more than you know I appreciate all you do have a great day
Hello, Tracey, i write you from Roumania🌻i love your videos and i admire, like and respect you for all the things that you do🌈 your proper way to make things simpler (i care a lot about the clarity, i'm a teacher) and the open of your mind make me to believe that i must go further more every day with my self improve work. Thank you again and a lot! 💐
Great video. It's like stopping a Markov process. Rather than jumping without intent from one thought to a random, albeit connected, thought with some probability, you intentionally move from one thought to another specific thought chosen based on the moment you physically inhabit at a given point in time.
great timing, i have a lot on my plate but my mind needs to shut off. It literally torments me. Great advice and a straight forward way to shut it down. Thank you very much for your videos, they are instrumental for me in learning to handle emotions and my brain's effect on them.
Good description of MIND-FULL MEDITATION. Have read about this before ---- it is BUDDHIST WAY OF MEDITATION. Makes sense. Just concentrate on the PRESENT- just observe the present , do not keep on thinking about past and other unpleasant things!! That is what MINDFULL MEDITATION is. Well described in BUDDHIST literature!! Have read this all before!!!
Rather ironic that I was scrolling through the comments as I was 'watching' the video. It really brought home to me the need for true Mindfulness. I will be paying more attention to your videos.
I recently came across your videos, and I am so glad that I did. You care and make good videos without indulging in excessive emotion. I appreciate that you give concrete examples of what you mean and will definitely use these tips. I need the practice.
This is an amazing video! I’ve recently realized that I’ve lost my mindfulness and it is making me crazy and burned out. So many of your videos are spot on and not overwhelming. I love them. I’ve subscribed. Thank you for making these videos! They are so helpful. May God bless you ❤️
Thank you KhaBose! Thanks for subscribing. I tried to keep the videos focused on one topic so that it's not too overwhelming. thanks for noticing that.I did another video on minduflness here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6SAFvliImdU.html
I listen to eckhart tolly to meditate mindfully. I was sitting on my porch talking to my friend. And realized we weren't connecting in any way. So I just stopped talking. And very smiled. I often walk in the store without buying anything at all. I would like to have more mindful conversations. Small daily tasks help me
Lovely tips. I'm working on listening to others to fully understand what they're saying, not just until I want to answer. To actively listen without replying for longer.
Thank you for sharing this mindfulness information with us. I am subscribing today. I would like to watch this video every week until I get very good of remembering to be mindful.
I am in a Zoom mindfulness group. It is helping me to stay centered in the moment just like you are speaking of. Not always easy, but I try to practice this. Thank you for the video..it's also timely with the current stressors in our world.
Thanks for this advice I'm gonna try this . It goes with bible teachings I been learning renewing the mind and focus on the positive and choose positive thoughts. Cast out the negative and choose on purpose to focus on what the word of God says about my situation etc.
