Very interesting. I think I will try to do the same on my new Bianchi gravel. I personally don’t like much these ICR systems, I like having cables and hoses more easily accessible.
I do like tube-in-tube cable routing on MTBs, but I’m not a big fan of this stuff going through the headset. It does look cool, but it’s so much more effort to work on, replace a cable, etc. Outside of brakes, this stuff encourages people to do full wireless I guess.
If you have actual tube in tube, no. This requires the cable housings and brake lines are inside the frame, but loose, not inside a tube inside the frame. Agree the aesthetics are rad, but yeah it’s a complete PITA to work on. I have tube in tube on my Ibis and it’s the greatest thing ever….In my opinion.
Just wanted to see what kind of a headache the system will be as I was about to buy a bike but noticed it had integrated headset. Definitely another useless headache. Looks clean. But having owned many bikes it's just not important.
@@DadDoingStuff Well I did end up buying it because I think it's here to remain because it makes manufacturing the frame easier and cheaper. Definitely a pain as I can't switch the stem to a shorter one. Don't need to but it's pretty common to switch the stem.
@@rawmancemtb Totally agree....stem swap is super common. Bike companies at least need to provide that flexibility for customers. Scott at least provided a workaround. What bike did you purchase, out of curiosity?
@@DadDoingStuff Cube Stereo 160. It was available immediately. But M size which should be too small for me but pretty much the same as my old Strive so don't need a shorter stem for it. But for the L frame I would've definitely needed maybe a 30mm stem. Which I think is too short for the headset.
@@rawmancemtb i dont agree about it here to stay, a few brands like commencal and Nukeproof tried headset routing an got hated on hard for it so they kept the big headtubes and still made holes in the side, commencal have also made it so you can run either. Id be more than happy if brake/shifter was external and only the internal was Dropper.
i like the idea and cleaness of this but if you have to use that stem which only has two bottom bolts holding your handle bars rather than 4 i dont like that, im sure its way better than anything i have but i still would like a 4 bolt stem
I agree and hated that factory stem. Overall, I’m really not a fan of the headset cable routing. It does look clean, but it’s more work than it’s worth…..In my opinion.
I bypass internal routing all together now because I’m always tearing stuff up and having to fix stuff, my cables and housings and hydraulic lines last longer believe it or not because the cables don’t do all that hard turns and kink the stuff I still do use a internal on my dropper however one it gets to seat post hole My sound crazy but a pro gavw me this tip last year and its not as eye appealing but it’s certainly more functional and last longer Great video, if I ever get a bike I don’t ride hard I’ll def do something clean like that cause it’s slick Reminds me of when we lowered our trucks we’d shave the door handles off so u couldn’t see them Same effect visual Not functional
I have a spark rc 2022 and I can’t stop wondering where the water ends, when it gets inside the holes where the cables go. Is there a hole in the buttom of the headtube to drain?
If it’s the Scott, it doesn’t matter. The tubes are not end to end “tube in tube”. The cable housings are accessible inside the frame from the shock access panel. So you can bring them down either side of the head tube. Hope that helps!
@@DadDoingStuff , thanks, but is it advised to do it on the "near"side or around the front of the headtube... most I see goes in on the side of lever.....but the scott manual is not very clear...
By the sound of it, you are maybe thinking about trying to route cables inside a headset, but on a bike that was never designed to do that? I don’t know the actual dimension. But I will say that the bikes which are designed around this have a rather large head tube opening to accommodate those cables. They also have the bearing race that aligns the steer tube correctly inside the top bearing. That bearing race also guides the cables along the side. I personally wouldn’t try to make this work on a bike that wasn’t designed for it. Assuming that’s what you’re looking to do…..I could be way off. 🤷🏻♂️
I just bought a '23 Genius 940 and plan to change the stem. Wondering how you had those extra spacers with no holes? The LBS I bought from already assbled the bike
The special one that covered the other Scott spacers. The one which you initially covered the holes with plastic, only to find out there's a piece that came with the bike
Ok yeah those 100% come with the bike from Scott. So either your LBS just held onto them or maybe they threw them away. (Hopefully not the latter) So…..I would start with your LBS and see if they kept all the spare parts that technically belong to you. If they don’t have them, I’m sure you could get ahold of Scott directly. I can tell you that I called Scott with some questions about my Spark and a real live person not only answered, but also knew a ton about the bikes and was able to answer all my questions. Hopefully that helps. I would for sure be changing the stem as well. Not really a fan of the Syncros stems.
@DadDoingStuff I did ask the local bike shop about it and they said that what's on the bike is all that was in the box 🤷♂️. I'll probably just get in touch with Scott. Thanks for making the video and for the helpful responses.
@@kaelito6021 Another reason I don’t trust most LBS. Maybe they are right, but I know for sure mine had all that stuff in the box when I built it (In that case I was basically my own LBS) I’m sure Scott will get you going. They seem to be a decent company. That Genius is gonna be a sick whip to ride!
