Very funny video post an advert for keytones and everyone complains show this video about how much money he makes good points made and the ads are a good source of income
Well it was his own promotion. It would look kinda flaky if he promoted his own show and wins and gets the prize money . Not saying it would have been dishonest , just bad optics . I also think he’s well off enough financially to not need it.
Shaw won$98,600 🏆 for 1 place in Strongest man on earth . Didn't take a penny and gave it all back to the people under him . That's 2nd highest pay out . Last year
The win was symbolic for his retirement, some competitor did way better a few months appart, officially they said they gave it all, unofficially they sorta make sure he ended where he should for all he did for the sport. Not sayin they went easy on him, but they might have kept a rep here and there
@vekk134 no competitor in my eyes is going no leave 98k all most 99k payday . To someone else . This is how these guy eat . And live . That's a massive payday in strongman . Plus the title. I think each one of them was fighting as hard as they could. In my opinion .
@@presqueisle69 well shaw gave it to other, so some competitor must be ready to gave up so money, and the 1st gonna finish 2nd, so he isnt gaving up on 99k, more like 20k. And since brian redistributed it, they might not have lost a penny. I remember cheking the result on reddit and some ppl had the same theory, based on result some of those competitor has a few months ago or after. If they did so it was for sportsmanship and respect, and not a planned or arranged event.
@@presqueisle69 Brian Shaw only gave the prize money for winning the event to the guys who placed below him. He's not giving them the money he made for organizing the event.
Love how different and unique your videos are compared to other strongmen on youtube. Very informative but on a low need to know knowledge kind of way. Keep it up :)
Not to mention that top 5 isn’t an easy feat. It’s a tough field in strongman right now, makes you really appreciate all the athletes give to the sport. Thank you!
@@robertmccormick9729 You need to keep in mind how much money goes into their training. Even Eddie said in an interview that the only reason he did the 500kg lift was money because his savings were rapidly drying up.
I love the editing, going from exercise to explaining is so engaging to watch. Also the graphics are nice, as well. Definitely stepping up your YT game!
Great idea. Not a bid deal, but Rugby League is a different sport from the Rugby you showed video clips of. I would love to see you workout/train with a Rugby League team next time you're in the UK. Let me know, I have a few contacts, maybe we can make it happen.
Yeah 5th out of 10-12 competitors doesn't seem all that impressive until you realize that's actually 5th strongest out of the tens of thousands of super heavyweight strongmen
In case it was missed or I didn't hear it in the video. I believe another way strongmen earn money is by going to events, I know a couple of guys were paid by Car Dealerships to show off their strength as a promotion for the vehicle etc. So that's another avenue, but I'd imagine you'd have to make a name for yourself first
In rugby the most lucrative championship is by far the French Top 14, this is the top domestic league for north hemisphere. A good front row playing in middle pack team is about 125.000 to 250.0000 € a year plus accomodation, some of the very top guys (internationals mostly) can make about 500.000€ a year.
I hope it continues to grow and the pay bumps up for you guys as well. I imagine the cost to eat, supplement, and pay for medical issues is VERY high for you all.
Dude you're the complete package, Your a damn nice guy, intelligent and you speak well, not to mention one hell of a competitor. Keep making videos and I will keep watching.
Your axle bar clean and jerk the split jerks are looking really good you should be proud of that for sure. for being able to split jerk for a strong man has helped you so much in events.
There is for shure som hidden forms of income, like personal sponsor money, other pricemoney for single event WR's and so one. A youtube channel helps as well.Working as a coach in the gym for paying customers, invites to speak in events and commentator jobs on television. There is many income streams to support yourself as a strongman.
Thanks for doing this video. I know you're not usually fond of openly discussing people's financials. But it makes for great content rather than money gossip when you put it in a video like this comparing the different sports. Well done! #LHBK
Really love your content bro. I find your videos to be more holistic information about strongman instead of limiting only to training, eating or fun. Appreciate your time and effort in creating good work 🙌🏾🙌🏾. #LHBK
The numbers for the Strongest Man on Earth (Shaw Classic) were incorrect. 1st place would have earned a little over $95,000 making it the second highest paying show.
Puts it into perspective when you consider that a strongman eats way more than the average person, has potentially significant expenses with physical therapy and all health related things (including the not so healthy parts of it). Some need to book two seats on planes and do extra expensive things because they're too big for how society is designed. Not the greatest hourly rate for the "average" world class athlete, there's a lot of time invested.
the money is definitely not in the prize winnings its sponsors, ad revenue and sponsorships. You get into sports to make a name, build a brand and get sponsors and then do side jobs like coaching or merch to diversify income because competing isn't going to last forever.
Great idea for a video, and great job explaining all that, it just shows jobs like being a strongman take years before it pays off, plus the way to big money is the route Eddie, Thor and people like jay cutler went. I just love your attitude, I truly see big things ahead for you Mr. Hooper, you definitely seem very unique with a very likable personality, I hope to hear a lot more good things about your career in the years ahead, best of luck 🙌💪💯
The other factor is strongman doesnt have nearly as much pay off as it does comoared to the inestments of food, wear and tear, needing special gear to train with, supportive gear, and peds. Ive seen strongmen like eddie saying if you can force feed yourself like 6000-10000 calories a day dont even bother
Yes, when he compared to a bouncer - yes travelling and uncertainty are big factors like he rightfully stated, but as a bouncer you can invest as little as you want in gear/PEDs, blood-work, and etc. Aside from training, uniform, developing skills, stressful nights and all that, you are a big guy who wants to be big and can be as big as you want. Eddie for example knew that in order to win WSM he needed to get as big as he COULD - which is completely different and he probably spent more than 50k that year on food alone (corrected for inflation, as food this days is like, twice the price as in 2017). Then of course you have people like Hooper, who didn't need to put on as much mass as Eddie did, so he eats like, 60% if not less, than 2017 Eddie.
Most people can't afford to eat 10,000 calories a day. That's a lot of money and if you have a wife and kids that can be too expensive for a lot of people to maintain.
Ideally, much like the strength of the athletes, the payouts don't focus as much on the very top but grow in depth. We know the top 2, 3 guys are good. Nowadays we talk about the top 10 guys, maybe top 20 in the world. I want to see those guys get paid more so they can bring their best to the comps and compete with the top 2-3
Strongman has grown so much in just the 4 years I've followed it, and it continues to keep going in the right direction. That being said, I feel like the prize money needs to be doubled (at the very least) in order to get more competitors serious about the sport. I know that won't just magically happen. The sport needs to basically grow 3-4 times what is now to cover that kind of cost. But until that happens, the top 30 in the world won't be as good as they could be, IMHO 🤷♂️
1. Respect for all this talking while casually repping close to 400lbs STRICT pressing :D. 2. Love the transparency and breakdown and the fact that some of the biggest guys in the sport still have part time gigs on the side. 3. Awesome video, great topic, well done!
Thanks for the video Mitch. Very insightful. I look at strongman as a platform to make your brand. I believe that’s what Brian really showed everyone and one way he brought the sport up. Eddie is doing great with it. Thor, The Stoltmans have done a good job as well. And now you have definitely figured out the logic as well. Some like Evan need to really understand because they could be really marketable as well. Keep up the hard work.
Great video , keep it up. The only thing I will say is that at the end the exercise performed was jerk, I believe clean&jerk requires to lift it from the ground and then overhead.
Money and prizes aside, how do you put a value on a title like Worlds Strongest Man? Or Strongest Man On Earth, Mr. Olympia, Mr. Universe? Titles like these are Priceless.
The expense to build the strength needed vs. pay makes it even more of a grind for Strongman and Strongwomen so add when you add in the cost that 5th place guy is scrapping to make it
I think a point people are missing out on is if you are not in the top 5, strongest in the world, you are not making any real prize money. You put your body through a lot of strain. You have to travel constantly. If you don't have other ways to make money, you're out of luck
People often don't realize that yes you can win like 30.000 but that won't cover all the costs of food / supplements / equipment / travel etc. etc. That's why they have side jobs / shops / youtube or whatever next to their career. Maybe you can also do a video about what it costs per month / year to be a strongmen on that level?
One sport you didn't mention is track and field, in particular the throwing events. The Diamond League meets pay decent money and the new World Ultimate Champs will have a large prize pool. The Olympics now have prize money too, but only for first place. Track athletes in general make a majority of their money from sponsorships and contracts but throws aren't as glamorous so they probably don't make the same as the sport's superstars.
Mitch hello. My opinion I think it’s great to be in the category of the world strongest man. In any sport or anything else it’s not just the money to which is the first important thing, but also the prestige and the dream as a man to be a champion in this beautiful sport. That goes with everything else. Thanks Mitch 🙏👍
realistically, the best i see the sport evolving over the next few years is that i could see giants live expanding a little and giving the same opportunities that are currently available to 20ish guys to 30-40 guys. i dont think the big comps will change much. maybe rogue will stop hosting because they get too much negativity that it isnt worth it when they are paying so much out of pocket
Can you imagine what Brian Shaw would be paying his winner if he had 10 competitors rather than 16? Hooper made $100,016.xx this year for winning SMOE!
Professional rugby players can earn a good income if they on the top, club and national teams plus sponsorship. The biggest countries in terms of pay are british isles, France, new Zealand, Australia and South Africa.
Mitch any way you could chime in on how sponsorships could potentially affect this "wage" I know there is a ton of variables but is it worth mentioning?
I was wondering the difference between winning Americas strongest man, Canadas strongest man, Icelands strongest etc what the monetary difference might be there?
And they spend atleast $3k per month on food and another $1k on supplements and gear. So if you don't do youtube or come in first most the time you have no money
While the 5th place strongman only earns as much as a bouncer, a bouncer doesn't receive sponsorship or any other perks of being a public athlete. You mentioned this at the beginning of your video, Mitch. I think it's fair to say that it isn't just about how good you are in Strongman, but how good you are in business and self promotion. Eddie Hall is a case in point. While he's an excellent strongman, there are better than him in terms of strongmen careers. Yet, he really knows how to market himself.
