Normally there is a performance review between September and December. If your pay increases as a result of this review then the increase is backdated to September.

I am from the US. I have a BA in Sociology and a MA in Teaching. I was hoping to teach Primary education instead of Secondary in Scotland or England. I know I’ll have to transfer my qualifications to GTCS or QTS. I truly hope that it would not be hard to transfer.

Schools do not give apartments in the UK for teachers. I live in my own house which I bought with my partner just before my NQT Year started.

Hi, I’m afraid I don’t know how the qualifications carry across from India to UK. What I do know is that primary teachers teach all subjects rather than just one so is that something you would do? You’d also need QTS from a teacher trainer provider in the UK.

It depends how you do it! Self-employed tutors can earn anywhere from £15-£50 an hour depending on where you tutor, your own experience and the people you are tutoring for! If you work for a tutoring company you can expect to earn more like £10-£15 an hour again depending on age and experience. It’s not something I’ve done before but have had friends that have tutored.

I would say she should look at getting on a PGCE course through a university. There is a video coming out soon about what those courses are. Also have a look at the government website as I’m not sure about the process of applying for university if you are from another country!

How does the salary work for competitive pay? Some schools pay on competitive basis rather than experience

The competitive side is the pay scale. All state schools have to use the pay scale but one schoole might pay you on a higher level than another!

I studied financial mathematics and on the get into teaching it was saying you get a scholarship or bursary of up to 34k. Is this realistic? Given you are In Northwest of England

Check the gov website, but i believe for maths and couple others (sciences mainly) you can get either a 28k scholarship (limited number available, based on competency) or a 26k bursary (guranteed). If you manage to secure the scholarship you cant recieve the bursary, but if you dont get scholarship you will be given the bursary for sure. Also there is a total of 6k on top of either of these as early career payments, I believe this is divded up as 2k each at the end of your 2nd,3rd and 4th year of teaching.

It can vary massively! The minimum as an unqualified teacher a month is £1,366.91 and this maximum as a head teacher a month is £6,097.90. There are many different salary levels in between the two as well!
