Finally got it up and running. The only delays we had was because we realized we needed some extra parts (I’ll list that below) ru-vid.comUgkxihMYiJNXcHdbH-7ihymsLz61l7jVyb5O . So we have a loft where our current hvac just couldn’t seem to keep cool during the summer. We have been using a window unit since we bought this house over 6 years ago (all the houses in this neighborhood were built in the 80’s and majority of the houses built like ours use a window unit). I hate window units because they are just so noisy and the one we had really only cools one side of the loft. I had contemplated upgrading our current HVAC, but with all the rising prices these days, it would take years before saving up enough to do that. With the advice of my father-in-law (used to run an HVAC business), he recommended we get an inverter instead. We thought we bought everything we needed, but there were just a few other parts we didn’t anticipate needing (which is what caused most of our delay). My friend and father-in-law did all the work to get it installed and running and now we have nice cool air circulating nicely throughout the entire loft. It is very quiet and even the outside unit is much quieter than our main HVAC unit. Saved ourselves thousands getting this.

Good information. We are replacing our gas furnace and AC with mini splits. I am tired of natural gas and central air.

If I move to a new house and it doesn't already have central ac I'll probably consider this system... because I have realized that everyone in my family has a different comfort level. Let's say if I feel hot in my room I can turn the ductless ac on... While the living room is still comfortable without turning on the ac...

I have a question for you. I know the humidity is drained outside through a drain tube. Is there water that needs to drain in the winter?? What keeps it from freezing?

would you recommend installing a duct less system in a 2200 sqft home two story?
@fireiceheatingandaircondit4363
@fireiceheatingandaircondit4363 2 года назад
The answer to that would completely depend on layout of the house and your goals. That would be a lot of linesets running down the outside walls to the ground.

My upstairs room will not stay cool with our central unit (it’s separate from downstairs) is this something that could do the job? We have had our system checked every spring/summer and nobody can figure out what the problem is. Desperate to find a solution!

Are permits need to install these? I plan on pay someone to do the refrigerant line and of course hook up the electrical, but do you need a permit to actually mount the AC?
@fireiceheatingandaircondit4363
@fireiceheatingandaircondit4363 2 года назад
In city limits such as Columbus permits are required for all handling of refrigerants and installation of AC units

@@fireiceheatingandaircondit4363 If you are still making new videos I would recommend doing one about the dangers of do-it-yourself mini splits. So people can be fair warned about what's necessary if they decide to do it. There are several videos how great many splits are ,how to install them yourself, none of them talk about permits. When I researched mini splits everything said permits were required for electrical understandable and someone needed to hook up refrigerant lines, however there was no mention of requiring an extra permit just to put a unit outside. If you would do a video you would save many people headaches in the future. Some of America's laws are truly backwards, overseas the biggest issue is pulling an electrical permit.
@mollyschultz2331

If you buy a DIY mini split the lines come precharged and vacuumed already. Mr cool ect have them already done . Then all you would need is an electrician.

I might buy and install one just for my garage , but of the whole house!?!?!?!? I had a 4 ton unit and all new duct work installed after hurricane katrina and it was only 6k total!
@fireiceheatingandaircondit4363
@fireiceheatingandaircondit4363 3 года назад
I’m sorry you had a rough time with Katrina. I spent 2 weeks in Mobile with my Search & Rescue team after Katrina. What a mess. The government raised the efficiency standards in 2006 and then again in 2013. R22 has been phased out as well. Meaning pricing between 2005 and now have skyrocketed as the units are now bigger, more efficient. Plus copper & aluminum which are key ingredients have raised substantially. I used to put in an AC only for $1500 in 2005. Now an AC only is $4k for the low end units. It’s not the right option for the whole house most of the time. But in some situations like 100 year old homes, it may be the only option.

Ductless is the most energy efficient choice possible. However, due to different utility rates across the nation and different efficiency rates available within the ductless line I would not hazard to guess. If you contact your local HVAC company, they can get you close for your region. If you are in Central Ohio, we can help you.

74 with little humidity, I would open windows. So nothing. Maybe when it gets 82 or higher, I would turn it on. I have shade trees assisting, so my usage would be different.

Good luck installing central A/C in an existing condo. In many condo buildings you are stuck with a window AC unit, if you are LUCKY and the condo association will let you, a mini split makes only about a 4 - 6 inch hole in the wall to install.
