Raul, hi again, Haulage companies are offering £10/hour only, and we can only squeeze £600 a week - Gross Pay, if we include all nights out O/T I know four major companies offering these wages - today! I have challenged each one if them and they won't concede so I just don't take the job! In fact if I look at 20 jobs they all offer £10/hour, today, December 2021. But the agencies are offering £12, £13, £14, £17/hour. You seriously won't get more than £10/hour from haulage companies, which is stupid because drivers now go to agencies and then the haulage companies have to hire from the agencies and pay far more than if they paid their drivers a fair wage - so the cheap paying haulage companies are shooting themselves in the foot by not offering their own drivers a fair wage and so it goes on.
True. Not only that They will take any driver without experience and will cost in insurance when the damage is done. Plus return of a load then they need to cover that to get it delivered. It goes on and on.
Great content. I passed Class 1 in 95, worked 12 yrs and left the industry. I recently got my CPC, took a refresher, and I'm back baby. Signed up with an agency, passed a driving assessment, and it seems I have work. Got Tacho manual entry/ refuelling/ adblue tips off RU-vid, but you're the top guy!...…..
I totally agree with you Raul I'm now retired from the industry, drivers need to stick it out forcing firms to keep the wages high. Pleased to see your better from Covid and back to your work, good luck with the campervan i'm watching your progress on the vlogs, cheers mate 🚍👍👍
The money has always been there always,. The greedy bosses and managers have taken the cream over the last 20 or so years. Basically at 5pm they all go home in there fancy company cars and also turn there phones off. What ever left in the pot is drivers wages . That's exactly what's been going on . Our turn now for a big slice of the cake
I'm about to do my practical test soon. I have no family, single... I have not attachement at all. I keep looking around on the internet for jobs around my area and the wages advertised are between £13 up to £20 (the highest I've seen was £24 for a job hauling filming equipment to film sets). As a new driver I assume I'll be on the lowest of wages obviously but can I realistically get to the higher ends of that wage after a while ? Like I said I have no attachments so I'm willing to sleep in the truck, willing to work nights, week ends... Man, if I could I'd really want to go off and drive around Europe too. I have financial issues that need sorting out so I'm looking to maximise my income as much as I can and HGV driving seems like a good solution to that. I'm not the most sociable of people and I enjoy working by myself (always have. In my current job, I was alone for 3 years and they introduced some new co workers, it's not going well, I can't stand the bitching and gossiping). I'm ready to do anything but I'm wondering if it's realistic to expect £4000 a month ? A Romanian driver who comes to the warehouse I work at showed me his payslips and they're crazy... I have to say that he lives in the truck 3 months at a time. Can UK drivers do this too ? Go away for 3 months at a time ? I know what some will say; that I'm dreaming and wanting to do too much as a beginner, that it's no fun living in a truck... I understand. But I'm willing to sacrifice a few years of my life to get to where I want to be financially.
Have to tell you, good firms in Essex paying 7.5 tonne £15.00-£23.00 through to class 1 £20.00-£30.00...ps all brits are from somewhere else originally and the best stay, hence its a Great Britain thanks to all the good folks who came, worked hard and stay!
Only problem with cage drops is WHO moves them ? Are you allowed in the trailor or not , also its a very grey area regards insurance if you get hurt, try asking your agency am i insured unloading and you will get silance, A few years back I had a double-decker x 45ft agency parcel company job , i backed it on the bay after opening the doors then went back to my cab , knock on the door ! come on driver get it unloaded , my reply -- on your bike mate I aint paid to unload it, supervizor comes for a chat & says its my job to unload if you dont unload we will ban you from the site Ha Ha Ha ok ban me . needless to say i was banned plus the agency was not very happy but I was near retirement & much to old for that kind of work so why did you send me there knowing i dont unload stuff ever. I looked at it this way jobs have been lost for w/house staff because stupid drivers are doing there jobs for them . Happy for you pay rates have gone up , xmas/new year greetings to you.
Hahha nice one. Yes unfortunately we as drivers have to unload the trailers, this is known from the beginning so it's take it or leave it. Happy holidays to you too 👍👍
@@MsWagons Hi Chris i did wincanton manchester on the iceland contract many years back and yes i had the same problem with the tail lift ramp , the managers over trying to speed things up and not latching the ramp correctly, had a few on the floor but it never hit anybody.
I've only been driving class 1 for around 9 months and the first 7 was delivering to the store you are in the video, was in stitches when you was saying how shit it is 😂, when I was there dhl had the contract and payed decent wages with a good overtime rate and you could just work 42.5 hours week and no pressure to do overtime, they also just left you alone to do the work. Culina are just about to take the contract over and are paying £10.60 an hour day rate with no overtime rate, a bit more for nights and weekends but still shocking for the work you do, the warehouse staff are on more money than the drivers. They even had the cheek to say "just work more hours and you'll make up the difference" 😂 (I left a couple of months ago but a lad that still works there was telling me). I really hope drivers don't go there so it forces them to pay more, I completely agree with what you say, it's up to the drivers to set the wages not accepting shit pay. Especially for jobs like that where you're having to maneuver through 7.5t zones and really tight yards as well as self tip. I left for a company that pay more and I'm delivering to big dc's with huge yards and sit watching Netflix while it's being unloaded. It's up to the drivers coming through to set the conditions and pay moving forward, especially with bulk of drivers retiring within the next 15 years. They can not survive without the new blood coming through.
hi mate im looking at doing my class-1 soon, fed up of working in construction sites getting piss wet through in the winter and freezing cold and then roasting hot in the summer - working in every weather leaving my house at 6am to start work at 7.30am then i finish at 5 and get home 6-6.30pm so out the hours for 12+ hours but i get paid for 9 hours, granted its good money works out £20-22 per hour but its self employed so no holiday pay etc. What sort of money are you earning now mate? just interested to know if its worth me doing it or not - i would prefer a day job obviously but if i had to tramp for maybe like 2 or 3 nights a week i wouldnt rule it out!
Your so right buddy, if drivers simply dont do jobs for crap money, the money will only go up. The cash has certainly gone up here in the south west, though you still see jobs for class 1 trampers at £11 p/h....but there are plenty about for £15+. Im only class 2, but earning up to 1k a week, though thats going to drop down to 750 now....
Been driving class 1 for 3 yrs now after 30yrs of fixing them, I only do agency work at weekends doing days and love it, the£ is very good too, unfortunately though facilities at a lot of places poor and some places you literally have jump through hoops to use them
Good stuff mate! 👍🏻 love watching your videos for advice and knowledge, been driving class 1 for about 3 months. I’ve been working for an agency in Manchester, mainly doing container work out of hull and Liverpool.
Hi Raul, love you content pal. I'm a new pass, currently with a local agency, daily rate £15.50ph, Saturday morning £21ph, did a job only yesterday for a local company, brand new DAFs, store delivery in London 🤣 only working the odd shift due to my full time job
Good to see your in the truck again and feeling better, wishing you season’s greetings from us to your family, take care and see you on another vlog soon 👍🏻
19:46 You should always merge in turn. There is no need for cars to merge early and cause a long queue of traffic although for a HGV I would understand the need to merge early. Also those roadwork signs may of been left over from the night before if night works are happening.
The highway code says merge in turn when signs tell you to do so. Usually 200 yards before. Doing it early just makes miles of ques instead of short cues.
You are SOOOo wrong on the lane closures, you are meant to filter, it's people like yourself that think you have to be in the correct lane upon seeing the first sign that is what cause the tail backs. And those people who block filter lanes should learn the highway code. The fact that there were no lane closures proves the point that those who get in lane too early cause the tail backs.
Hello sir watching your video very interesting about the wages in UK as a truck driver really makes me wanna come over. I'm also a truck driver and bus driver Im hoping one day if I get the chance to come I'll message you.
It’s a helluva lot of time spent alone in a truck for a pretty average wage. As a graphic designer, I get £300 per day (£1,500). But it’s a super easy job, work from home, only work 37 hours a week (5 days). If I do any overtime it’s additional £43 per hour. Don’t you get lonely in a truck all week? And don’t you feel gross and dirty having no kitchen and bathroom ?
19:40 This is wrong. People like you cause huge amounts of traffic. You use the lanes until the end, then you merge. If "everyone" got into those two lanes, you'll be wasting two lanes that are still open. Use all lanes and merge.
Interesting video, nice to see someone talking about the actual numbers. I'm an Englishman living In New Zealand, always good to know what's happening back in Blighty. Hope you keep getting the good money.
Buna! Raul I like watching your videos! I have been driving class 1 now for 5 months. Your thoughts and insights to the industry are very informative thanks for what you do! Merry Christmas!
I work for a company that pay by the shift, work is pretty clean little to no load interaction, problem is I do 9/10 hours then wages are good, if my shift takes 12/13 hours then not so good its out of my hands every day ha
Hi....I here in UK... M new HGV class 2 liscense holder..... Can I get Visa Sponsorship in UK as HGV driver... Any suggestions for company which offer visa sponsorship for onshore drivers
That's what I'm doing now my C + E straight licence with test on 19, so far after 10h training on rigid I started 22h on articulated unit. First day done and I can say is smooth as crazy and a lot better to drive then rigid. I can really feel size and weight but so far I'm so impressed how smooth is. I always wanted drive big lorry I'm from Suffolk so here is Felixstowe port and a lot container job going. Wondering how they pay you 🤔? Is this per hour even you are waiting for unload box or pay you when drive? I know there could be long days on containers but its easy clean job any opinions about that job ? Have wonderful New Year Raul 2022 ✨ let's stick with right money 💰
Usually the pay rate is per hour, but some companies are trying to push a fixed daily rate. depends what you are doing tbh. I personally prefer the hourly rate. Best of luck
If the queue is miles long you suggest that everyone jumps into one lane miles ahead instead of utilising full capacity of provided infrastructure? How does that make sense?
@@Raul689 Rarely do you get a situation where the queue starts at the signs. Unless it's 3am. Even then, if you start merging at random distance from the actual merge point it creates more chaos than if people go down to the end using all lanes and merge there in turn, like a zip. That's why we have laws, because more experienced and intelligent people think things through, rather than use their "opinion".
Great vlog Raul. Morrisons drivers dnt touch the load. They drive to store and park it. There not aloud in the trailor. Have a great Christmas and a happy new year.
Hi raul good vid your right to chase the better rates I've done all that supermarket work years ago but not for me now getting to old for the hard work but it is good exercise for younger men don't mind Aldi on the electric truck that's it keep trucking man
I can’t agree about the lane closures and joining the open lanes way in advance. Unless there is a red X over the lane then it’s still open and should be used up until the lanes close. If people want to sit in a lane or two, miles in advance of the lane closures, then I’m driving past and pushing in at the last minute, saving myself 5-20 minutes. It’s what the Highway Code recommends as well.
Hi brother Raul hope you good please help me I leave in South Africa I'm experienced driver for 15yrs I drive super link double trailers I'm hope is to work abroad please help me with the link ,I'm Zim guy based in South Africa for now ,help me man I need to support my family
I'm doing my class 1 on the 29th and I have no plans to take less than 17 an hour. It cost me 4 thousand pounds to get this license. I can work in macdonalds for 11.50
@@s1dew1nd3r4 I passed 1st try. Applied for a perm roll opposite my house on 37.5k, overtime paid after 45 hours. 1 night out a week, no manual labour, paid meals. I'm about to finish my 1st year, cleared about 45k. Very happy!
Needed a direction in career paths currently work in barjob which i have come to realise is poor wage for quite a physical job ie moving kegs and carrying multiple drinks trays sure is nice to have customer interaction however i think doing something like this would be good but hard work nonetheless.
Absolutely I’m coming off buses because they don’t pay that great got my license and Cpc ready to be on a class 1 truck also from another country and also won’t start wages like shit as my license cost me so much
I've been watching a few of your vlogs. 👍 I've just passed my class 1 but keep finding jobs saying 1 year experience. How do I get started ? I've put my name down on 2 agency in Lancaster but worried if I will get work. Working my notice at old job before I find out if I've fooked up or not. Any advice welcome.
I totally agree while ever people are willing to work for poor wages then employers will happily keep paying them. I’m lucky I suppose in that I get £17ph already for days/afternoon shift. We work 4 10 hour shifts a week. No Saturdays and 2 out of 3 Sundays. The most we work is 3 days without a day off. It’s class 2 work we do not class 1. The class 1 drivers in our company are on a different pay deal to us. They’re on annualised hours so they end up on a bit less in reality. However all they do is drive. We actually deliver to our shops, although everything is on wheels. I’d be unlikely to leave to do another driving job. Unless someone is paying me the same or more just to drive and nothing else.
@@Raul689 I did agency work when I first got my license. I know there’s plenty of crap jobs out there. Delivering laundry was particularly heavy work. Now I deliver sausage rolls, steak bakes etc ( you can probably guess who I work for ). It’s far from perfect but there’s much worse jobs out there. Finishing between 10pm and 1am depending on what run you’re on isn’t for everyone.
Hi from France, Hey,great to watch your chanel, welcome back. I think that you've hit the nail on the head,it's shit money to do a shit job and unfortunatly it doesn't get any better. I drive a petrol tanker here in France, for an English petrol company and it's alot of work but it pays the bills. I wouldn't recomend Transport for any-one,after 38 years in the industry,it's just a mugs game. But hey, love your chanel, your English is just amaaaaazing. Have a great day.
you say its a mugs game but then i work in construction doing steel reinforcement - i earn £20-£22 an hour but its self employed so no holiday pay etc - i leave the house at 6am get to work for 7ish and start at 7.30am to 5pm (get two 30 minute breaks during that shift) then i get home around 6.15/6.30pm so im out the house for 12 hours or more and get paid for 9 hours a day - work in the rain/wind/cold during winter and boiling hot weather during summer... now if i could have an easier life and earn a little bit less i would consider doing my class01.
im sure its easy to tell new drivers not to take shit wages but sometimes the good paying ones always ask for 6 to 2 years experience so i guess many new drives dont have many options
Great video! I am doing my class 1 training and test in Feb. My current company is offering a job as soon as a pass. Wages are not the best but its a good start to get experience then after that I will follow the bigger wages.
Hi Raul. Am Jacob from Kenya. My question to you is, do the truck companies in the UK fully sponsor immigrants from Africa inorder to get HGV job and be cut from their salary after you have been hired?
I can believe that drivers would get paid more to drive into London simply because it carries more risk when driving a HGV where there can be so many pedestrians and cyclists about. £400 a day though..... That's a nice juicy carrot there xD
Can i get a job as a truck driver in UK if i have a heavy license from the UAE.. If you could help me with this info please.. Is there a provision to convert this UAE heavy license to the UK.. Please advice..
am currently quiting my job to come over to the UK to join the truck driving industry.. Were and how to start from is so confusing when I land at the UK.. Can I get a guideline? .. Thanks much appreciate
I'm seriously considering jacking in my teaching career and doing my hgv licence. I'm used to working 12 hour days at max stress levels 6 days a week, I love driving and watching the world go by. I have no kids or family so would happily do long haul across the continent. Just wondering others thoughts who are experienced or who have gone through a similar situation, am I being naive thinking I could earn more for less stress?
with no kids and no family you would be ok doing continental. just know it won't be easy finding a job without experience. and if you read the comments here you will see a lot of drivers want to hang up the keys as well. just depends on everyone's situation i guess. best of luck!
Glad to see you back to normal mate. Id love to get into this industry but just cannot afford the training etc. Avaidly looking for somewhere that will pay for the training if i stay with them for a bit in the south wales area. Fingers crossed, the search continues.😁🤞
Thanks for video i am only car driver😁 want join this industry, do you think it is easy to find a job as a new driver becouse i have no experience ,and if i pass my test?
Answer, I'm a tramper driver average 74 hours per week and do 5 nights out, Monday to Sat afternoon. What do I take home around £700 per week and my boss thinks I'm paid too much
@@ertanturabi4741 I work for Hermes as a van driver so when I pass I have a class 2 job but I know others who passed and got a job the next day.... Just remember once you have done the hazard and theory test to get your tacco card it's £32
