This video will tell you how I estimate a concrete job and what my pricing is for installing a concrete pool deck.
Most of my concrete jobs are priced by the square foot. I have square foot prices for pouring concrete floors, installing garage slabs, pool decks, patios, sidewalks, and driveways.
When someone calls me for an estimate, I can give them my square foot price for that type of job and that gives them an idea of what it'll cost them.

You are so honest. Here in California everything is a secret and expensive. If your good at doing what you do they will bash you like nothing especially the Portuguese. I know because I'm a Portuguese from the islands not Brazil. Brazilian people don't mind sharing information about there work. I been doing concrete for over 30 year's now and I still love it. I completely agree with your pricing method - I do the same thing with my drywall company. I don't worry about talking to the other contractors in the area (I live in a very small and remote town), I just base my overall pricing off of my schedule - if I'm getting the jobs at my 'regular' pace, then my pricing is on vs other contractors. If I'm too slow, then my price is too high. If my phone is ringing off the hook and other contractors are coming my way more than usual, and my schedule is getting too full, then my price is too low. I try to stay on the upper end of the pricing spectrum because I I work with the higher end contractors and my work and experience is in demand. I stopped giving my work away about 20 years ago and have been doing good ever since. It just doesn't make sense to cut each other's throats on pricing but if you want to give your work away, have fun. Cheers!
@nobleroofinggeneralcontrac7961
I use to be in the dw business decades ago I never cared what others charged. People fail to realize you can be profitable if you own your equipment and have low overhead. I had competitors in the dw business that were charging tons of money back in the early 80s then 87 black Monday hit and some owners of competing companies were calling asking for a days pay because they had no work. Customers remember who charged fair (and made money) and who gouged when things were busy. Slow, steady and profitable is the name of the game. Does not always work out that way but it is in my opinion a proven way.
@akdrywallguy60
@akdrywallguy60 Год назад
@@nobleroofinggeneralcontrac7961 - very true. I remember the on/off cycles of the 80's and earlier 90's - my dad was always stressed during the down times. But he was also the one who ingrained in me the idea of never sacrificing my work quality - snowing, raining for a month, whatever, take your time and do your work YOUR way. Once you establish yourself as the highest quality guy around, you'll always have work. I hope I don't sound like I'm a gouger, but when my schedule is 1.5 YEARS out, I figure that I need to slow down the flow of work or I'm going to work myself into the grave! Cheers brother!
@nobleroofinggeneralcontrac7961
@@akdrywallguy60 I was not implying that you were a gouger sorry if it was taken that way. Now to the booked out for 1.5 years. That looks good on paper. You know as well as me that an event can change that like the recession we are headed for now. I say the printing shops are a good source of where things are headed. Yesterday when i was picking up a plan there I asked have you noticed any slow down? The guys head lifted up and said ya the last two week s for sure. That is the canary in the coal mine right there. Buckle up folks. I sure hope I am dead wrong about this.
@akdrywallguy60

@@nobleroofinggeneralcontrac7961 - You got it! Me too. Good times come & good times go. I think that we're all going to be slowing down soon as well. We're in a different market where I live (lots of 2nd homes and vacation stuff), so who knows what's going to happen to the more... mmm... inflation proof folks in the world and what they're going to want to spend their cash on. The bigger towns an hour or 2 away from me are definitely starting to slow down on there new residential starts, so it's probably coming my way too. I'm hoping to be retiring soon anyway, so it's possible that retirement will just come a few years earlier than originally planned. Good luck and stay safe!

For those who think this price is too high; Something to consider 1) maybe you’ve never experienced doing concrete and don’t realize how physically demanding and mentally taxing it is 2) maybe you’re under estimating the value in what the finished product is expected to do, for 30+ years.

Mike your pricing is more than fair. I don’t think many people would price flat work by the cuyd. Flat work is usually by the sq ft. Foundation work is often priced by the cubic yard. Your pricing is fair for your skills and quality of work in your area and you are right….. if you do quality work you will never be short of work. I did many years of concrete and masonry in Manhattan and while our prices would be much higher, our cost are ridiculous too. The other problem with work in a big city is you do have a lot more competition on commercial work and there is always some new guy who is cutting corners or doesn’t know his real costs and liability who is trying to undercut his competition. I envy the type of customer base you have and the market you are in. Concrete work is stressful enough without having to do it in a busy city like Manhattan working for a bunch of maniacs like the big building owners and big GC’s down here.

Mike, this video was made 8 months ago so I hope you still respond to old videos. My question is how does the customer know what color the cement is going to be. Ive seen some concrete pours that turn out light grayish/silver looking instead of tan/beige (earthtone) or even an off white , color. Customer won't know until it dries and it's not what they thought the color was going to be. This is not addee color that is added to the cement work. Can you give some insight on this. Also you said you add fiber reinforcement. I guess that is something the customer has to ask the contractor about. I think that is an added protection for breakage.....imo. Thanks for the breakdown also.

Damm that is some good profit your making there my friend and $180 to $200 per day is ideal to pay each worker assuming they ain’t paying for tools or transport.
