Just get WAZE for your phone and navigate with that. You can set it to alert when speeding so you don't have to guess. Just driven across France using it this week. Dead accurate when entering villages and built up areas for change in speed limits. Its also free and based on google maps.
Thanks for sharing this information. Everyone is different on their tastes and how they spend money 💰 🤑 💸 . But what a great reference point. Well done. Wow not bad at all. 3,000£ for 5 weeks around Europe 😮💪😉🤯 💰 11:21 What they still have land mines from the war in the 90s? That's crazy.😱 😭 😳 Do you think the Defender will raise your costs a lot? Pedal lock very good idea
Good question about the defender costs, I’ve not thought about it to be honest but yeah will be interesting to see if any difference in cost, The Falklands still has tens of thousands of mines too apparently and what’s worse is they are in marsh land so they are constantly moving, crazy hey
@@stephenbulmer7148 just me Jess, although it’s a bit messy, Jon lived in Germany, all over the uk and also lived in oz for 4 years, and then I lived in oz all my life until 9 years ago when I moved to the uk with Jon, although both my parents are English so there’s different accents all over the place 😂
New Subscriber - Great Video guys, loving the vlogs.. Defo Waze for yr sat nav.. 👍🏽 And Vignettes are for if you intend to travel on that countries motorways.. If you stay on the no Toll roads you don't have to buy one (might save you a few Bob) Loving yr outlook on life and spending yr money on travel, van builds and experiences (worry about old age and pensions when you get there- IF you get there 😉) Were based in the French Alps if you ever find yourselves down that way 🤙🏽🏂⛷🚠🏔❤
Ah thanks very much 👍 that’s lovely of you to offer, Thanks for the tips too and yeah your so right we have to live for they now hey as you never know what’s coming 👍👍👍
Albania is the place to go for proper wild camping, you do need something with a bit of ground clearance though, doesn’t have to be 4x4, although that helps, but ground clearance is a must.
Love the intro, you can tell you put a lot of thought in how to film your videos and think yours are a cut above the rest!! 👍 really enjoying the fridge van build 😊
Hi! We are road tripping Europe. We have destroyed our budget so much already but we are having a blast. We are looking forward to watching some of your other videos. Just tuning into your channel now
Hi! Sounds like you’re having an amazing time! We say what’s money for if not for amazing adventures!! You might never have the chance to do it again. Thanks very much, hope you enjoy them. Have an amazing time 😀
Thanks for breakdown - You did good! Here I thought the budget was going to be blown on -- Jess’s love of food!! (Why not, she’s so slim & trim). Seriously, you did see a lot & do a lot for the money. Good tips. Can’t wait for more adventures!
Judith, you know me so well 😂😂😂 I thought food shopping would work out more expensive too! Groceries are much cheaper in mainland Europe than the UK at the moment. Thanks very much 😀
Love the vdos. Insider Croatia tip. The reason for the camper van ban, is every year the country is invaded by Italians and Germans. If they find out you’re English they are more accommodating. ❤
You know us so well 😂 I thought it would too 😂 we are home for the summer building the new campers and will test them out in the UK a bit before the bigger trips in the autumn and winter 🤞 we are planning longer trips to Scotland, Northern Europe and Africa for then 😃
Technically wild camping is illegal in France, you can park at the side of the road or in lay-bys but anything else requires the land owners permission like the UK.
Yep it seems wild camping is illegal everywhere in the world nowdays but some countries are more accommodating than others and all the countries we have been to France is one of the best for it, we always be respectful when wild camping, and nearly always just stay the night and move on 😁
A security tips is to fit like 3M´s UV and safety film on all windows. Make it much more time consuming to break in to the car, and make the car less hot in the sun. ;-)
Excellent video and brilliant breakdown and summary. In all of the countries, what was the cheapest for purchasing food in the supermarkets and for fuel? Does Jess still play fridge Tetris in the Sainsbury's van?? Hope all is well, take care
😂😂 she plays fridge Tetris in every van, as the more space she has the more food she buys 😂🤦♂️, Bosnia for sure was the cheapest all round, I’d definitely go there again 👍
@@truebluetravellers definitely opened my eyes to some of the countries I would never have thought about visiting. I was on Rightmove last night looking at property in Slovenia, 3 bedroomed house for £58k..
Great video as usual jess and John, but please if I win your prize , don't let john come down the chimney with it .he would make santa run a mile. Merry Christmas to you both
Hi, thanks very much. We just built them in our driveway. We are fortunate to have a big drive and shed which makes it a lot easier, although the van we built in Australia we just built in my mums back yard with a few power tools we borrowed from a friend 😀
Paying £1,200 to £1,500 per person for an all inclusive fortnight somewhere isn't unusual now. You spending around the same for 5 weeks is a damn good deal, and with constant choice instead of being in one place for the whole time.
Yeah that’s exactly what we think and why we love this sort of travel so much, so many different cultures and countries, when we went to France last year the weather started to get a bit rubbish in the north, so we just opens the weather up app and drove to the nice weather 😂 love it 😁
Don’t talk to about the lights Wally, it’s a touchy subject at the minute, we have to have lights on all the time coz it’s so bloody dull here in the uk at the minute, been the worst “summer” we’ve had for a long time 🙄
@@truebluetravellers Why are the lights burning a touchy subject? I was just trying to be helpful. I didn't say anyfing about WASTING a lot of money. I'm just trying to help you save money for when you go climbing the Alps. I won't mention a fing about how dull the UK is again or about wasting eaps of money.
Hi John and Jess. Superb tips video so thank you. We are trying to fit a lagun table in the cabin of our VW crafter van which is exactly where you have it in this video. Please can you tell us how you have done this? Ideally we'd like it situated between the seats but we are are struggling to see where we can mount it. The passenger seat mount has the battery connections and the captains seat has the hand break. Any help would be awesome. Thank you Bunny & Mike
Hi guys thanks very much, unfortunately I have sold the van so can’t even send you a pic of what I did but I made a bracket that bolted behind the handbrake bracket then did like a u shape up around the handbrake and back down and then bolted through the floor too, i then just bolted the lagun mount bracket to this, hope this helps
@@truebluetravellers. Thank you so much. That makes perfect sense. Brilliant and thank you so much for getting back so quickly. We’ll defo give it a go. We are so enjoying your Arctic Adventure. You make us laugh so much. Be safe. Bunny & Mike
We didn’t notice any difference to be honest, ours is registered as a van with windows and the only thing we found was when getting insurance in Bosnia they didn’t recognise it as a camper so charged us allot more as they saw it as a goods vehicle
Hi there 😊 .. would you mind telling me what you were getting mpg approx. from your van? What engine variant is in your Sprinter? Many thanks again. Steve 🏴
Hi Steve, thanks for watching, we get about 30mpg which I am quite happy with considering the wheels roof rack surf boards etc, the engine is a 316 which I think is a 2.2l 4 cylinder, 160bhp
@@truebluetravellers Thanks for getting back to me 👍🏻 That's good to know - some guys have been giving me their mpg at anything between 17 - 25 on a Sprinter; which was a total no goer for me. I could live with 30! Thanks again. Stevie
Hey guys, love the videos. I live in the south of France and you have inspired me to look into vanlife. Anyway while watching youtube, I saw an app for parking, tried it and seems pretty good. Its called park4night and is available for free. You may have tried it already but thought I would share. What apps or websites do you use that you would recommend for travelling? Maybe an idea for a video. Keep up the good work and thanks for the great videos
Hi, Oh wow that’s brilliant 🤩 you will love it! It gives you a kind of freedom you don’t get with other means of travel, you can go where you want, when you want, for however long you want without having to worry about check in and check out times or hotel prices and availability. We love having our home comforts with us too! It makes a big difference to travel fatigue. France is amazing for vanlife (although around the riviera can be tricky) and your in such a great place to access the rest of Europe! Park4night is brilliant, we also just use google maps satellite images to help us find park ups too. Another app that I would recommend if you don’t know it is AllTrails. It’s a free walking and. Cycling routes map, we’ve found some absolutely brilliant walks and things to see on there. The free version is really good. Park4night is worth the paid for version in our opinion as it lets you filter results and find things more easily. The only other app (apart from google maps) we use a lot is the google translate app. If you don’t know it has a good function where you can click on the camera icon and will translate anything you see, Road signs, menus etc absolutely brilliant. Hope you do decide to get into vanlife. Let us know how you get on!
