Josh, We just had a company do the same at our farm just outside of Fayetteville, NC. We had around 10 acres multched. What I've learned from our experience is that you will want to leave enough space between the trees for bush hogging. Even with rye grass planted, saplings still seem to grow. This is something that I've been battling with this past summer. Farm is looking great man, keep it up!!!

I just got a bid of $4,200 to do an acre of brush in SE TN which is estimated to take 2 days. I paid quite a bit less 2-3 years ago for a similar amount of work. I don't know what to do. I know there are other mulchers because I've seen ads, but I can't find them online. Guess I'll keep searching.

I don't see anything wrong with a man who takes pride in his land, the health of the ecosystem that he's able to positively affect, and also enjoys when not only himself, but others look onto his land and see beautiful natural native flowers and wildlife prospering. This is all in all a win for everybody. Win for the stoney Ridge farmer. Win for the company he hired. Win for the whole ecosystem in the area. Very cool project. I enjoyed it thrmoroughly. Your land looks beautiful and is such a pleasure to look at.

That depends on how hard you had to work for the $$ you paid the equipment owner. The problem arises when the business owner wants to make enough to end up in the top 10 pct of incomes.

I was quoted 150 per hour with a minimum of 5 hours. I figure my property needs about 10 hours or 1500.00 for the acre and a half of stuff so thick I can’t even walk into it without bleeding or itching for a week. If I can use that part of the property going forward I have increased the value of it many times over for me and my family. It’s a cheap 1500 bucks if it increases the value by making it useful again. Just another take that maybe some folks don’t consider when they see a price only.

@@JustMe-mg6vw he's not pocketing the whole hourly rate he charges. Most of that goes towards the fuel to keep that machine running, consumables like those carbide bits on the front. Maintenance like oil changes and repairs. Licenses. Taxes. etc etc etc. He's lucky if he's pocketing half of the hourly rate. Probably closer to a quarter of it.

Had I considered how much work it is to clear brush, brambles and vines I would've hired one of these guys. It didn't cross my mind until I was already on my second of 4 weekends and I only cleared a space about 30x200. Was so overgrown with privot and big thorny vines you couldn't crawl through it. $1500 per day would have been money well spent.

I remember about 25 years ago back in 95 hired a guy with a small dozer to clear and pile 2 acres for me. He did an excellent job and I was happy. I burned brush for about 2 years after to get the land cleaned up and looking nice. I enjoyed all the burning but it was a lot of work and took a lot of my spare time. The ones who knew how much I paid for the clearing thought I paid double what it should have cost but not one offered to pay for the job. I am not complaining but I never tell anyone now what something costs. If you are satisfied with the job thats it. It aint no one else's money or bitness! I enjoyed the video!

I charge 3200 a day. I have a much larger machine and use 8 gallons if fuel per hour. I have to haul with day cab and 20 ton trailer. The biggest difference for me is the head has its own pump system and the machine has its own. You see in the video where as he raises the are or hits a tree how much momentum he loses and has to wait to build back up. Keep doing what your doing, hope to see you get a stand alone machine like a fecon or cmi

We had this done two years ago with the blade type machine, and I would recommend it for an area that is going to remain woods, but definitely not recommend it for creating pasture. The blade type machines are much faster, but make much larger chips. We paid $75.00 per hour -- but he raised it to $125.00 for other people in the area. It cost us $1,200 for two days. You are 100% correct about cleaning out the woods. We are doing the same and planting prairie grass and wildflowers to restore the oak savanna that used to be here. Much of the understory around here is just invasive species anyways, and looks terrible.

@REEF Will do...just in the process of finalizing the purchase on 20 acres ourselves...we have 10-12 acres covered in trees, that we plan to thin/clear over the next few...years? Ha, not sure how long it will take. We did end up with a good amount of cedar, so thinking we could have a logger take that, make a little money, and pay for the rest to be cleared? Not sure yet how we are going to tackle it.

I know this video was made awhile back, but I just happened to come across it. Very well done, and very informative. Timing is interesting on our end. We just bought 4+ Acres in rural Oklahoma. The land is totally raw, and has probably never seen any mechanized equipment on it. It is so overgrown with scruboaks and brambles and all sorts of junk. We won't be able to escape from crazy California for a couple more months, but I'm already getting bids on thinning out the entire property and putting in a house pad of about one acre. The prices that I'm being quoted are in line with what are still listed in this video. It seems like the range that I'm getting is between $1,000 and $1,500 per day depending on what equipment is used. One company is about $1,800 per day but that's two operators and two different pieces of equipment, which sounds intriguing. Most are saying my land is a full 2-day job. This was a great video!

I would recommend “HESCO” barriers around the farm. They have two footers that could line driveway with plants or flowers. Also, “Gibbons” (not sure if that is the right name) which would use rocks stacked up high inside a wired mesh type enclosure that you would fill with river stones. They look great and rustic with the rocks. Stone walls in certain areas would also look great! Nice videos! I always wondered how much that forestry mulching would cost!!!!!

If you hadn't been so far away I would have got those cedars and left a short stump. Like working cedar.

Good job Thanks for price Would have liked to see him deal with tight spaces, steep slopes, and vines. Also hoped to see the before and after file down of stump.

I like the brush you got rid of. I cringed when I saw those beautiful cedars cut down though. I would have bush hogged around those bad boys.

This gonna be good ! That cedar got to smell good. I could use that old boy on my place! Only have 9 acres, but clearing an acre like that would be good.

Brother, time is everything. I would have paid that to save that kind of time for sure. That piece of equipment is awesome. May have to look him up. My family is locating to the Boone area this coming year. Looking to hopefully get 10 acres.

I just did a finish raking with my tractor of a customers land that had this done. He wanted all of the shredded stuff gone so he had I guess a power raker come on and clean it up and there was a huge pile below the pond. Today, I spent 5 hrs cleaning it better with my landscape rake. I have been looking for a video on how you clear that shredded stuff up.

You are doing a great job. Your neighbors will be griping come fire season and your place will have a buffer zone protecting you from all your lazy neighbors.
