I’m a Brit living 10 years in Mexico the winter months. Due to Covid, full time 2 + years. I’ve been to SM too American for a European and way too pricey. Look for something less American gentrified with more Mexicans and you’re set. Mexico is beautiful. Viva Mexico.

“Walk with grace “ I love that Michelle. I don’t like the word expat because Mexicans in the US are immigrants and we forget that we are also immigrants in their country.

Actually, in immigration papers they call us 👽 "Legal Alien" or "Ilegal Alien"👽. Also when applying for jobs in job application forms alot of them say, Ilegal or Legal Alien. Yes 👽👽👽 "Aliens", that's what they call us. But U.S. Americans get called "Expats". Now I understand why a green card in the U.S. is called "green". Lol. 🤣 I guess it goes with our "Alien" 👽 title.🤣

Lovely interview! I had to do all my research myself but now that I live here I realize what a gem San Miguel de Allende is. I bought my home with 3 Casitas so I rent them out to single women and families and I enjoy showing folks around. I like the diversity, the sense of inclusion and it's also a very LGBTQ community and feels very safe.

San Miguel has definitely gone mainstream over past 10 years. I remember visiting as a little kid having family in San Luis De La Paz. It went from mostly retired people to kicking out the locals because of high housing

Casa Elm is a beautiful guest house. I spent 2 weeks there in February. My host Michelle is amazing. It is located in a peaceful community and I felt right at home. I can’t wait to return. SMA is at the top of my list as the place where I will set up the next chapter in my life. I’m still researching but so far it is SMA. The people, the food and where it is located in Mexico combined are the ingredients for a good life. Continued blessings Michelle.

San Miguel is s beautiful place. I love living there. It is very expat heavy and it is one of the more expensive places to live in Mexico as a result. But it’s incredibly beautiful the climate is downright perfect and it’s definitely worth a visit. But if you are considering moving here do your homework because it is not necessarily inexpensive especially if you want to live in the centro area. Michele is a great resource so if you are considering moving here you should definitely connect with her she’s amazing. I couldn’t have made my move here without her.

For american people or Europeans is cheap live in mexico for you is cheap because one dollar is 20 pesos if you make 1000 dollars a week is like over 20,000 pesos a regular Mexican like me make like 1800 pesos a week that would be like 90 dollars that's why people from other countrys come to live to mexico because is cheap for you but for us is expensive

I understand you. In Canada also a lot of rich immigrants that totally drive us out of some of our nicest cities. As for $1000 dollars a week - definitely not all of us hoping to share some months in your beautiful country have that much. And Canadian dollars are worth 30% less than American. 💜💚

Me too! It's been a major upgrade to the quality of my life. San Miguel is on the expensive side, but I shop at the local stores and don't eat out much. I'm too thrilled with my beautiful house and the joyous energy of the Mexican culture. After the depressing silence in my US suburb during COVID, the sounds of life are everywhere, and children playing, dogs barking, people peddling products, it just feels like technicolor after black and white.

I'm sooo upset that it took me this long to 'wake up' and realize that the 'American Dream' is a pipe dream; that I deserve to live a soft life and not have these high utility/medical bills/car note! I'm so grateful that my student loans were forgiven and that I've come upon all these wonderful videos of people who have escaped the rat race, the daily extreme stress, the being overworked and underpaid, etc. Why didn't I wake up 5-10-15-20 yrs. ago tho??? 😩😩 Y'all are so smart and really helping a lot of people! I will spread the word. Thanks so much!! See you in May of 2024 MEXICO!!! I'm sooooo excited.

@Rayne Parker Querétaro is less expensive. I live in SMA. It’s been 11 years, and all prices have increased. Nothing like Italy, and speaking Spanish is very helpful, if you want a real experience. Like all places, there is crime, but if you use your head, it’s as safe as anywhere else. It also depends on where you live. Costs also vary. Shoppings quite different, one thing I really miss about the US.

Very classy and sweet lady there for this interview. I spent this last winter 3 months in Guadalajara ok, I been there before so yes, Mexico in general is a beautiful country. And for all of you out there and can you believe this I was in Guadalajara when Juan Gabriel died and also now I was in Guadalajara when Vicente Fernandez died and he died on 12/12/21 and I was dressed up in a mariachi dress. Ok, to those who fon't know who these beautiful people was Juan Gabriel was just like another Elvis and Vicente was the king of mariachi musica so anyway, Mexico is beautiful but you have to know how to live there and if you do, ok it's nothing like it out there. Viva Mexico and viva la Vida like Frida said. Mucho amor to all of us and yes, it's sad now what's going n in Ukraine so let's pray for that country to get peace here soon.

I have enjoyed several of your videos that talk about moving to Mexico, very informative! However , I would like to request if you can do a video that covers Mexican born/ US citizen that still wanna move/retire in Mexico. I’m assuming requirements/rules are different than Americans wanting to move to Mexico, is there a way that you can do a video the covers this?

I see your experience of only 40 fellow black people. I have lived in a city in Argentina for 11 years and I am the only N. American immigrant I know in the city. I have 1 friend from the US who lives 40 minutes *outside* the city. The number matters because it’s the difference between a single friendship, a small group, a community, or an extensive community. I will come in Jan w/ my husband and son to see if SMA might be a good fit for us.

SMA is a place for tourists and expats, they pay for the exaggerates prices is a trap for people, is a place without much to give, Querétaro is half an hour from there and that's a very beautiful place, much better than SMA

It’s nice to have many foreigners in San Miguel, but it’s no nice that thanks to that houses are much more expensive for Mexicans and it’s no nice to know that many foreigners buy houses just to rent them and they don’t pay taxes, they don’t bother to learn spanish and unfortunately I’ve heard some people saying “San Miguel it’s beautiful, the only bad thing is that there are many Mexicans. Another one said, we moved to another neighborhood cause there are few Mexicans. I think to myself why they don’t back to their countries. You are welcome to Mexico but please do things correctly. If you have a house for rent “pay your taxes” and respect Mexicans. And also “you are immigrants, not expat.

Are you saying that only foreigners live in beautiful areas in Mèxico ?? You ignore than , that the wealthy mexicans live in the best places , there are colonias of very wealthy locals , but those colonias are apart , like here in US if you go to downtown or regular streets wealthy people usually don't live there . The rich mexicans live in colonies apart from the comercial areas and they live in huge beautiful houses . I have family and friends I can take you to take a look . Specially in Mèxico City in Lomas de Chapultepec , Santa Fè and more . Oh and let me tell you if you see them you will think they are white people but they are mexicans light complected blue eyes or green eyes much taller then average . But not all of course , so if you see them don't think they are not mexicans . We are all different colors .

I understand this because funny thing is when I first visited Querétaro and soon Guadalajara this year I didn’t realize they are white Mexicans. I saw one sit near me at the airport and I thought she was white American until my fiancé told me everyone u see in this mall or airplane they more likely white Mexicans. My fiancé who is white Mexican, but u can tell he Mexican he just light skin like the white Mexicans compare to these people who look European. My fiancé who is Mexican is also wealthy and live in nice gated communities and went to private schools all his life like UAG university. His parents own houses in both states and he also own his own house in Guadalajara because of his school and own 2 nice vehicle, also I’m an American like her. Also when we was in America. A white guy that i thought was just American was actually white Mexican and he talked with my fiancé when we was getting my car renewed papers and, as I handed his debit card to my fiancé. My fiancé told me, as we was leaving the white Mexican that looked white ask if we was together in Spanish, as he told him yes. My thoughts is I guess he was shocked because either he not in America to long to know there is high interracial of white and black now that is up there with white and Hispanic interracial, or because my fiancé is born in Mexico and is rich, as I know there a huge poor and rich gap, so I guess he knew when my fiancé started talking in Spanish well educated, and know he different from the average Mexican and Mexican American. So he was shocked because I guess rich Mexicans don’t date outside there communities. Who knows lol, as it be different if he was just a poor Mexican, middle class or Mexican American but he not…
