Great job explaining how the YT system works, especially how the “monetizing” aspect of it works. You are doing pretty good actually with YT revenue. Rough rule of thumb is to take total views and divide it by 250-500. You're at 215, so at the high end of content creators ad revenue. Congratulations!
@@MarkClayMcGowan I guess I didn't explain myself very well. RU-vid pays different creators at different rates based on a secret formula. You can estimate any creators income by taking the total number of views on their channel and dividing it by 250 (high end) or 500 (low end) You are at 215 meaning that you get paid more per view than most creators on RU-vid.
Mark I have several ideas. 1. Get to know Train crews. 2. Ask them if they are on duty and what Train or locomotive they are on then take a picture of them. Try to find as many train crews on both UP and BNSF maybe even Amtrak and SJVR guys. If their cool you can identify them

Thank you for making the videos. I don't often watch the videos when you are chasing trains because I don't have a lot of time for when I watch you tube videos and those videos are the least I like from yours, unfortunately something will be first and something will be last. With that said I have NEVER thought this guy make a lot of money because it is none of my business. You tube creators is just another job and if that is how you can pay your bills the more power to you. I do love seeing videos about how the railroad works from what the signal means to what the railroads do durning derailments. Thanks for all the videos
Thanks for watching. There are only so many "how things work" videos to be made, as since retirement, I have limited access to most things, but I still try to find interesting things. I also ask, in every video, for viewers to give me ideas about what they would like to see.
Hey Mark if you wanna pick up sponsors i wouldn't mind. One of my other favorite channels has sponsors too but he only picks to sponsor things that he actually would use and actually uses most of the things he sponsors. I wanna get a drone as well but i cant afford one either. Some day i will. As for my channel ive met the 100 dollar criteria 2 times since i started my channel back in the summer of 2021 but i do enjoy it even if i dont make much off of it. And Mark the next time i come out there im gonna buy YOU lunch.
Thanks for explaining to us and showing how you tube pays you, not a lot of money for all your time. I just turned 75 and have been retired about 7 years and every thing we do costs so much more money and it isn't going to get any better soon. I've heard from other You Tubers that the Comments help. Also, on an average of all You Tube channels, only 33% watch to the end. As a small time You Tuber (trying to reach 500 subs). My channel is just for keeping records of the shows and sometimes other and unrelated videos. I'm still Totally embarrassed I didn't recognize you at the Bakersfield model train show. Just Never dreamed of seeing you there of all places, knew the Voice, but just Brain Faded. I try to do my part in promoting your channel, have your Card on one of the Billboards at each model train show. Just like this weekend, May 4th, at the Lancaster Elks Lodge. I use Adobe Premier Elements. It's easy to use and isn't a subscription, you purchase it outright. I used the 2018 version until last year, then bought the 2021 version. It's $100. I don't recommend Elements Pro unless you're going to get a lot more serious about editing. Good Luck!
I really think your money is your business. How much you make is immaterial to the viewer. I could make some suggestions, but I don’t know if they are right for you. 1. Like share subscribe and comment. Ring the bell. 2. Publish a video on a regular ongoing basis. (You could do 10 short 5 minutes videos, and release them one at a time on a set day. Once a week). Regularity will increase your views, because people will have something to tune into. You are old enough to remember the saying: tune in tomorrow, same Bat Time, same Bat Channel! 3. Speculate all you want to. That’s why some of us are here. 4. Include a map of the lay of the land. (No, not her). Let us see more of the territory. Maybe when starting, point out east or west, north or south. Don’t say timetable south, it just confuses some of us. 5. Remember your dead cat. Improving the quality of your presentation might garner more viewers. I might add to this later. And I am now. Thank you for the shout out. I am happy to hear you like the golf clubs. Thanks for the content you post. It is always worth watching. Trade your truck in for a Maverick hybrid. Your gas usage will go down. But then you would have a truck payment.
What I make SHOULD be material to the viewer, because if they enjoy the channel and want to keep enjoying it, I need help, and for the most part, I'm not getting it. I'm not suggesting they send me anything, but "like, share, and subscribe, and click on the bell", which I mention at the end of all my videos. I also share the URLs for my paypal nd patreon in most videos. I publish videos every Wednesday (actually, late Tuesday night local time), and sometimes more. I am planning a video at all control points going over the mountain. I often list coordinates in the description box (I have a written list of all control points, tunnels and most center of sidings), but pulling up google earth, doing a screenshot and pinning locations is also time consuming, as I almost always have two or three trains per video in different locations. I use my truck for many things and a pint sized pickup would not be practical for me, and I will never buy another Ford! Thanks for the ideas and the clubs though!

Mark, I enjoy your videos, and I have commented that 'others' who video RR activities have up to 550,000 subscribers and followers. Mark, I have NO idea, why your subscriber count is low in comparison...I don't know. Your videos are equal or perhaps even better than others - I don't know what to add. You are well educated and well informed, you have great RR experience, and you come across well. My friend, I don't know why your numbers are low - NO IDEA> Love you Mark...take care - oh yes, by all means ADD drone video - this would be exciting and give your channel a new perspective. Please consider adding a trail cam when there are derailments - leave the trail cam recording the derailment site - you have commented that there has been a lot of theft from these derailment sites - now this would be very, very interesting information.
Hmmmm...Do you and Jennifer know something I don't? LOL. That's a good question. As she is the beneficiary of the account to which my ad sense (youtube) payments are direct deposited, I suppose she would just have that money. As for Patreon, I will leave her instructions to put a notification on my account that I am no longer around, and to close the account, at which point payments would no longer be accepted.
