Was talking to a fella here in coral bay yesterday who’s down from port hedland. He was towing a 3t van with a 200 series and was in the low 30s pushing into a head wind. They’re no better.
6.7 cummins in a Ram 2500 - towing a 3.6t van we get 21L/100km. Empty we get 10L/100km. The dirty old Td42t patrol gets 16L/100km by itself and it's like sitting in a horse & cart! LOL
That's really not too bad actually. What you say about feeling fresh after a long drive is very much under reported on. When i had a GQ td42 I would feel completely smashed after a big drive, ear plugs helped alot with noise but the lack of power was still exhausting.
Get a full exhaust, extractors back (not a cat back system)and a tune and those fuel figures will improve. The CAT back system is purely for sound I even had Dave from Dash admit this when I commented on one of his exhaust videos and fair play to Dave he didn't hesitate in admitting that I was correct when saying CAT back is pointless as it's still restricted by the factory headers. First rule before a tune...full exhaust whether it's a diesel or a high performance petrol engine, anyone who will tune your car before that is conning you.
@@4x4CampingandAdventures but 2500 for cat back is acceptable?? That cat back system is like putting a playing card on ya bike as a kid.. made a mad noise.. no more power.. that 2500 for extractors with a real tune will repay itself way before the landcruiser at 20klm/ year for 11 years.30k extra for a landcruiser over a Y62.. on publicised fuel consumption you'd have to do 20k per year for 11 years to "supposedly" make up the fuel saving... documented I'm not pulling numbers out of thin air. Imagine getting a thickshake and the first quarter of the straw is 30% smaller diameter than the rest... big diameter at the end but sucking hard through standard smaller header... equals zero gain.. CAT back as admitted by DASH.. NO POWER GAIN JUST PURE SOUND.. Credit to him for being honest...
@@4x4CampingandAdventures that's a fair price, is it steel? What diameter is it also please? I'm yet to buy a Y62, very close though.. prices are still way out of control 2nd hand market. Brand new 2023 TI $81950 and people are asking that and more for something that's 5 years old with 60-100K klms on them.. it's mental but I'm patient they are dropping.
Haha was in Exmouth over Xmas new years on way back to perth wind was a killer towing 3t 20ft caravan fuel hit 35L per 100 into 50km/h head wind.. on the way up to Exmouth was 24-27L per 100 lol.
Just did a trip to Esperance fully loaded with a 21ft jb caravan tanks full for a week of free camping. 300 series landcruiser did 15 on the way down and 16.2 on the way back on 35 inch tyres
I don't think your figures are that bad. My opinion about the petrol v diesel argument and their respective fuel costs is not as much as is expected if one doesn't want to be somewhere yesterday! A couple of years ago we went with two 60 series Land Cruisers on a 7000km trip to far north Qld and fuel costs for both were nearly the same one being a "85 na4.2 diesel 5 speed manual the other a "86 3F auto high roof, both on "33s, at around 90 to 100 kmh. yes the petrol used a little more and was faster up hill, but only used a couple or three litres a tank full more. (Around 15-16L/100). Both loaded to the brim of course. The thing is that servicing the petrol is quite a bit cheaper, not as frequent and not as fuel quality sensitive, the diesel picked up some bad fuel somewhere in the outback.(smoked like a coal chimney, didn't help performance much!) The 3F petrol has done 700.000 km while the diesel was rebuilt 2 years before hand.
That’s great mate. Just so you know also I did 11,000km with the rooftop tent and fully loaded patrol total weight over 3.5t and averaged 17lt per 100km and I was stoked with that
That’s not too bad at all Carnt get that with my td42 Ute it’s about 14 empty then when towing and loaded it used about 22. The y62 empty on a long run we get 13.2l 100 with bit of gear not towing 14.5. But all the power you could ever need for overtaking and now the fan recall issue is fixed it’s a lot better.
@@4x4CampingandAdventures yeah some have had the fan roaring when empty etc not many but a few apparently depends on engine number etc late 2022 build ones
Cheers for sharing mate 👍 We have a y62 due in March coming from a 200 series. That kind of fuel economy is pretty close to our 200 towing a similar van.
And petrol is 20% cheaper, so you'll be saving money on purchase and at the bowser.... welcome to the reality club where diesels aren't cheaper to run as claimed... not to mention no ad blue.. no dpf.. no diesel truck feeling.. and If you let the Y62 breath properly, extractors through. Then a tune those figures would improve even more
