New grad respiratory therapist here. Make 30.70 on nights, work 36/hr/week Additional 4.50 on weekends. Take home about $3600 a month in the midwest ( luxury apartments / townhomes around 1200-1500 a month here) It makes a huge difference by NOT EATING FROM THE HOSPITAL CAFETERIA/ COFFEE SHOP!! New grads, do yourself a favor- do NOT step foot in that hospital cafe .

Do you feel RT is a good career? Is it competitive to get a job ?
@Thegoat90210
@Thegoat90210 4 месяца назад
@@CrazyBunniePanda if you’re not in New York or California- you will not have any issues getting a job. RT is a great career for the investment of an associates degree. Spend 2.5 years in school full time, get out making $25-$30 an hour. Good benefits, pto, vacation, healthcare ect. Nurses on average make more, but an ICU nurse is doing a lot more work than your average RT. To get a more accurate wage picture, go to indeed & look at RT jobs in your area.

Girl, thank you for posting this!! As an RN student graduating in a few months, this is SUPER helpful info! I go to school in Portland, but do clinicals in Washington (like PHSW). I’m on the east coast and average here is about 33-34 and some change an hour for new grad nurses but I wouldn’t be surprised if majority starting is $30-32/hr. Sadly. Then again like you said it really does depend on which area/state/hospital you choose to work at. And what incentives they offer! Great video I enjoyed it! Thank you for being transparent! I applied for the fall RN program and hope to get in! If not then next spring for sure! I feel you on the $100 girl, I’m blessed with schooling to be mostly paid by financial aid and I pay the rest out of pocket but I used to pay SEMESTERS out of pocket with my serving job. Thankfully being financially independent made me qualify for Pell grants to help this year. But after bills I just feel helplessly broke. 😅 really hope this nursing career will be a great financial step up from now like it was for you!

Thank you for sharing this. Nurses are still underpaid. Just for interest sake...I began working as a registered nurse in open heart ICU in 1981 at $8.10 an hour. Can you believe it! I never married. Somehow I paid the rent and auto and took care of everything on just my salary throughout the time I was nursing. I even continued to go to college and paid my college tuition out of my nursing salary. Times have changed. Good luck to you. I hope they give you a big raise after you have a year of experience!

That is a lot of money for your profession. Count your blessings that you are in USA and that you have opportunities to earn so much in your profession. That is a dream salary, even for med doctors in the most part of the world. Yes, the cost of living is still very high over there. But Americans can print dollars any time they want, hence salary are disproportionately and unfairly higher than anywhere else. Work hard and diligently for that money. You are extremely well paid.

Well… it looks like they fall into the same tax bracket so, I don’t think so!
@Thegoat90210
@Thegoat90210 5 месяцев назад
You need to factor in state / federal taxes in your area. Also, you only get taxed at a higher rate on all the money OVER a certain threshold. For example: if $40k a year is taxed @ 12%, and 60k a year is taxed @ 18%, if you make 55k a year, than only 15k of your income is taxed @ 18%.
@AM.000
@AM.000 3 месяца назад
Tax brakets @jamesrios8438 ? No, no one earning less will make the same amount. Lets say under30/hour pays 10%, and over 30/hour is 15%..... but the person paying 15% still pays 10% up to 30. So lets say $26 is 10%, take home is $26-2.60= 23.40 takehome.... versus $33 is 15%, take home is ($30-3)+(3-0.45)= 29.55 takehome.

Unfortunately New York and California are not apart of the compact states. You can totally work in those states you will just have to apply to California state license to be able to work there! With that being said it does look like New York is pending to be a compact state! Here is a great resource regarding the states www.leaderstat.com/compact-state-nursing-license#benefits_of_a_compact_lpnrn_license

It’s honestly very easy to hunt and look for jobs as they are always usually hiring and nurses are in high demand! Whatever location you are wanting to apply, you will just need to look up the hospital/facility online and go to their career page and browse for RN jobs and the applications will be available!

Please do not ever become a RN for the money. You will start to treat your self your family and most importantly human being your patients without actually caring for them. You vote the people who tax you. It is used to support a lot of people who never have and never will pay a single cent towards America! I made less than 10 dollars a hour and been a nurse for 40 plus years now… I do not work for free but going into nursing for the wrong reasons is very apparent in my experience as a patient.

I disagree. We are not a communist society. We work to get paid, bottom line. Life now is a lot harder then what it was 40 years ago and more expensive. Nurses are expected to do more now with less assistance. Let us not brush under the rug the fact that obesity rate is high. All this id the reason why nurses are quitting. This sort of gaslighting has to stop. Female dominated career told to take abuse and crap pay while CEOs of hospitals make millions if not billions.
