Time stamps: How much inventory I started with: 4:30 How long I cure my candles before selling: 8:00 P.S. I totally spaced on talking about inventory for wax melts. I started with about 50 total wax melts, in about 6-7 different scents. Wax melts can go really fast though so I could have started with more! 💜

I was just thinking about this because i don’t want to get too much inventory and it doesn’t sell and im just stuck with a lot of candles 😭 so im making a few scents and hopefully they sell, i spent so much already😓 posted right on time! ❤️
I totally understand the fear 🙏🏻 You can do it though, don’t let fear stop you! 💜 and don’t get discouraged if you don’t make a sale in your first day or even your first week. It can take time to build up!
Same here lol I am going to make like 5 for each scent and then see where it goes im optimistic and what ever you dont sell online maybe see if there are farmers markets open book a spot and you have less inventory to make lol DREAM BIG! I believe in you!!
just look at all the videos of people making candles at home. and all the people commenting. Clearly way over saturated nobody is making more than 20k a year off it. if you do 5k a year consider yourself lucky lol all i know is when i posted on etsy got 80 views in 8 months where ebay and amazon got over 10-20k views in a week.....Etsy is for the big business that pay for views imo. If something is easy to make and sell then chances are its worthless to get involved with. Nobody wants a job so anything easy people jump on the wagon and try which ruins it for everyone. That is why everyone makes videos and sells "Information" rather than actually sell candles. Prey on the desperate. Like all the get rich quick scams. Candle making is more for like stay at home wife while the husband pays the bills lol
I’m getting closer to my launch date, order placed for my finalized supplies and I’m excited. I was going to make 48 candles total, 2 different sizes, 4 different scents but now I think I’ll make 24 candles total, 2 different sizes, 4 different scents. Therefore, if I sell out more I already have vessels and fragrance oil to make the second batch and while those cure I can be placing an order for more vessels and fragrance oil.
Yes!!! That's what I'm doing... I bought enough vessels and material to make 50 candles but have decided to make only 25 for my launch and if they sell fast I will have materials to make a second batch...then order more stock
Do you have any videos on suggestions or advice on selling at farmers markets or other events before opening or after opening a shop like if you should etc?
Memory Box Candle Co Thank you soo much for making these videos! I have a couple of questions if you don’t mind sharing. Do you always use 10% FO and do you test your candles each time you get a new order/batch of wax? Or do you trust it will be consistent... thank you SO much!! 🙏🏼🥰
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo Have you tried any less? I started making candles withoit mesuaring the FO, so when i eventually started i realised i was putting roughly 5% in. I dont actually notice a big difference at all, in both cold and hot throw. Makes me think im waisting oil 🤷♀️
Yesssss, l was just sitting here wondering how much inventory should l have for launching!!!! This is right on time! & wow just uploaded and one dislike, ppl are so miserable!!!
Love your videos. Super helpful! Just in case you don’t know, when you are wanting to launch a bunch of listings at once you can add a bunch of listings, save them as drafts and then select all to publish them at the same time if you wanna tell people “ these items will be live at 1pm on my shop” .
I bought enough materials to make 50 candles but decided to make only 20-25... 5 scents and 5 candles of each scents...depending on which ones go first I will make more with the rest of the materials I have. Which will allow me to order more in the mean time
I watched some of your videos months ago when you were just starting... Glad for you, you've been successful with your candles! Love the organization/storage upgrade! 💕
I remember on your last video you asked about wick suggestions for the tins. I used a well known candle supply company. I purchased a kit last year. I have been using 14's per candle supply instructions that were in the kits for the tins. I never had an issue with wicking this size. You could also use this same size for the 10oz jars. I use 8% to 9% FO. It has a great SC. Your doing a great job!!
This is such good info girl! Thanks for these gems!! Watching all of your videos, there so helpful and you give great insight for new small business owners.
thanks for this! its refreshing to hear it takes you a long time to make them... i am the same way! feels like it takes forever but i want to figure out how to make a bit more at a time since it does take so much to set up etc.
I personally let mine cure for 3 weeks. But I do a coconut blend and they seem to do better with a good cure. I'm slow at making candles too! However it's because I am enjoying the process. I don't pour candles everyday, because it's just 1 facet of my business. So making candles is relaxing compared to other things I do. I did Farmer's Markets till the Coronavirus pandemic hit. What a mess that's been. My local buyers just call me and I get their orders ready and they can pick them up. I'm hoping by the time The Christmas Village opens, I can once again set up. I miss talking to my customers. It's a shame Festival is only 5 weeks out and it'll be to soon to get out there. I usually make 1500 dollars a day. So, I guess when tax time rolls around I won't be paying taxes. I might get money back as sales are down. Who knows? Lol, I hope 2021 is a better year!
Bless you. Like seriously. I’ve have been stressing over this and this video along with your others have helped me tremendously! I’ll be purchasing from you soon.
I know this video is 3 yrs ago, but my husband and kiddos and I wanted to start making candles. I got wax from Candlescience, which is the soy 464. They say the wax needs 2 weeks of curing time. If I follow those directions, then I should probably wait at least 5 to 7 days before listing them just in case, right? I mean, I know they're not going to sell as soon as I list them. That would be amazing if they did, LOL. I'm just trying to think when we can officially launch them. Our soap, scrubs, and butters can be listed and sold immediately. The candles are the only wait time item, and we're going back and forth of when to list. We're questioning whether immediately since they won't sell right away at first, wait a few days just in case, or wait the entire 2 weeks. Any suggestions?
Thanks Erica, I know you did a video on coconut wax a while back. Did you decide to make a coconut candle? I personally get a little confused when I hear pro candle makers talk about testing. I would love a video on how that process is supposed to work. I figure at some point you can not test through every candle you make, or even most of them? I may have it wrong but figure I would pose the questions. You seem to be in better health today- this make me smile. Stay amazing! #team Erica
Ruby Nieves yes that was the starter kit from CCS but I never ended up buying more coconut wax to work with. However I am waiting on some new wax to come in the mail to work with and it’s coconut based. And you’re right I should definitely do a video on testing because this can get really confusing and tricky (even for me still, I’m definitely not an expert at testing) Thank you so much for watching 🙂 I’m definitely feeling better, I decided to change my upload schedule from every 3 days to every 4 days and just having one more day in between uploads has taken the stress off immensely 💜
Hi Erica! I've been so into your channel, watched most of your uploaded video and your videos have inspired and encouraged me a lot while preparing my small candle business. So thankful I run into your channel for half a year now. May I ask if the soy candles are gonna be fine after a long time sitting in inventory? Is it going to lose fragrance or anything I have to worry? Thank you in advance!
Hi! So glad my channel has helped you! ☺️ And as far as I know they will be okay sitting in inventory! As long as it’s not years I think they will be fine! 💜 (but I would do a burn test on one of them before you start selling them just in case!)
Absolutely love you, rooting for you and so happy to see you become more and more successful. I'm about to launch my candle business which I've been working for since May and you've helped me along the way, thank you so much!!
Is it possible to kind of make them by order? So if someone orders a gingerbread candle, you make a batch of 4 and just ship them the one. Idk if that’s feasible but it’s an idea 🤷🏼♀️
Hi Erica, I love watching your videos. They're really helpful. I make 100% soy candles but have noticed I get frosting on them after they've cured for a bit or if I add colour. I've tried different ways to avoid it but nothing works 😔. Do you ever get frosting or have you perfected this? Would love to see a video on this. 🙂
I definitely noticed frosting when I added color to my candles, that’s why I don’t add color anymore. I’ve heard all sorts of tips and tricks to help with frosting, I know Jeff Standley is the king of this one his channel! I don’t have much experience but I know some people use heat guns to help!
I noticed it getting favorites and views but no sales, and I’m thinking maybe cuz I say it’s made to order because I’m scared of having 5 items of the same thing.
Hi, Erica! Me and my husband planning to launch our candle business next month and I’m starting making candles now so that when we launch we have candles ready...until I watch this video... and made me think 🤔 should I wait until we launch?
Hi, Erica! Me and my husband planning to launch our candle business next month and I’m starting to make candles now so that once we open we have candles ready...until I watch this video and me think 🤔should I wait until we launch and stop to make candles?
@@anaroberts4146 I'm so sorry - that sucks 😔 I merely meant to lend the professional adjustments I had to make with my business in response to changing economic conditions
When you launch your website can you do a video on how you created your website please 😊...also do you price your candles differently at vendor/craft shows than you do on etsy because of fees?
Yes I will definitely make a video similar to that! And that’s a great question. I basically did (COG x 4 + $7) on all of my items on Etsy and offered free shipping. This was one of my mistakes on Etsy because I didn’t account for the fees like I should have. When selling locally I take off $7. So online I sell one candle for $29 and in person it’s $22 🙂
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo yea etsy fees are confusing sometimes. I also had to switch to free shipping because I didn't understand all the fees associated with shipping on etsy. I understood most of the fees but there was still $ missing and I couldn't figure out from what lol so I just switched to free shipping now it's easier to see all the fees
RU-vid helped a TON but you always have to be focusing on telling everyone, build up your social media accounts before you launch (try to get 500-1k followers) posting engaging content, beautiful photos will catch people’s eyes and make them want to purchase when you launch!
Where do you get your candle jars? I'm wanting to do a clear glass jar with bamboo lids similar to yours, but I can't find any anywhere for a decent price. Amazon is quite expensive, from what I see and I want to be able to buy in bulk and other sizes.
You have great informative videos thank you so much! I was up here thinking I need to have 10 of each...woo!...3-6 sounds so much better! I'm trying out the soy/coconut wax and it has a very ugly after burn and alot of people are saying it's normal with natural waxes. Does your soy wax have a lumpy after burn?
I have been hearing this as well! I haven’t tested a whole lot of different scents in my tins (still trying to figure out wicking) but I will update if I notice this happening!
