Been through a pretty rough time lately, these two dudes kinda cheer me up all the time. I had some pretty big projects like a tank bike (Dnepr frame sawed in half and built around a 800cc inline two cylinder kawasaki engine with a mini excavator track instead of a back tire) all that came to a halt due to two cases of cancer in my family. These videos kinda always remember me that one day I will get back to work on these silly projects. I just want to say thank you guys, even if you probably won't read it.

Hi Sean, I first started watching you test ride bikes from your old shop in town. You took the same route for every bike which helped me compare bikes. It also helped me get through the long MN winter. I still watch your videos but am wondering why you stopped doing the test drive videos. I’d really like to see them back on your channel.

I was just waiting around to die, seriously. I quit driving, quit going anywhere, then, I stumbled onto the video where you bought this and rode it home. Then I saw Matt Walksler rebuild it like he could do it in his sleep. I thought "I can do that." This was August of 2022. I kept trying to avoid getting my license, so I went gas powered bicycle. It was crap. I saw a new electric bike for $2,000. I can save $500 each month. Then I screwed up. Went to facebook market place and saw used Sportsters for as cheap as $2,500. I bought a '95 with a 1250 big bore kit. I have to plan a rode trip next year from Oregon to Maggie Valley and tell Matt "Thanks". And it all started with you. I feel like Dale Walksler saved my life, even after he had passed away.

When I was a teenager in the 80s, I was getting into aviation and spent a lot of time hanging at the local airport here in south TX. A local ultralight pilot, I believe his name was Carl, was a dealer for the Pulse Auto Cycles. He had a demo model that he drove around a lot and kept in a hangar there. I never saw another one until this project showed up on your channel.

A bike like that... No cost is too much. When you love a bike the cost is secondary. This bike deserves a proper build. Stuff the general public thinks. In the future what you spend will be returned many times over. Do it right. Ride it and hang on for a few years. Pays for itself.

You've seen Robby Laytons work. Ask him to quote you on the fenders repair. He uses an aluminum metal filler that won't crack. Also, consider Cerakoting all metal. Much tougher than paint and adds only microns of thickness to part. In fact gun shops use it in high precision parts and high wear areas. Love the build an I vote BLUE

Gave up after 6 months of working and rebuilding them. They looked perfect but the thing wouldn't track straight. Sent them to Jake Robbins (leading guy for these forks here in the uk) came back looked exactly the same but tracked perfect!

I know I originally said Olive Green would be a great colour, but was put off when the guy you were talking to about colours said "Green is bad luck," I thought about Sunburst Orange as a symbol of sunrise which feels like an affirming colour for Bikes & Beards and the way you reach others with your faith.

Also guys, as I suggested in my last letter, get a 34 tooth engine sprocket, which will make for more power at less rpm's. You're stuck with the 51 tooth rear sprocket, as all Harleys were until the advent of disc brakes. You can go higher than 17 teeth on the tranny main sprocket, it all depends on how you're going to use the bike. Another thing that I suggested, get a 45 WL workshop manual, you can find reprints of them all over Ebay, buy an inexpensive wheel truing stand & do the lacing & truing of the wheels yourselves. Stop just throwing money at it & do some of the restoration with your own hands, that's where the real joy of the restoration happens, and you'll have more pride from investing your own time & labor!!

I really liked this video. It was a very realistic assessment of costs minus your time, which is considerable and worth money BTW. Fixing motorcycles IS about learning; you guys are just like all the rest of us. You show us the learning curve; this is nice. Color... whatever you like; it's your build not mine. Something OEM and tasteful just like you're talking. The original color was olive drab military, but unless you're heading for Normandy and D Day... The red is both OEM and fits with contemporary taste. This is a good choice for resale. The medium blue is OE and popular for HD restorations, but too close to baby blue for my taste. Do you see this color on anything contemporary, i.e. any vehicles bikes or cars? I mean Avacado was a popular color for kitchen appliances in the sixes... is you wife cool with that color in her restored kitchen today? Anyway, love your work; you Dudes go!
