I find that when I get distracted by media, it is a projection of the fact that I'm running from responsibility or I'm distracting myself from failure. Where there is purpose, the need for social media greatly diminishes. Let God give you purpose in Jesus, through the Holy Spirit!
I was raised on T.V. and video games from 3. This is convicting. How many hours do we waste on things that are temporal, rather than fixing our eyes on Christ and seeking his kingdom? Oh Lord create in me a heart that hungers and thirsts for you. Raise up a generation that will glorify your name. You alone can satisfy. You alone are worthy.
God bless you Pastor John for boldly urging us, true believers of Lord to be intentional n deliberate in setting ourselves apart from the worldly falsehood of worshipping Lord in church. Hallelujah! To God be the glory!
Hearing the first question in 2 Corinthians 6:16 which talk about Temple and Idol got me to quickly recall Commandment 1 and 2. The Commandments relates to the Love of God by keeping the Body clean of all inequities.
I got interested in studying theology and reading the Bible and just kind of ran out of time for watching TV. But I find I really don't miss it! What seemed intriguing stories now seems kind of silly. But I felt like I was being a weirdo for not watching TV, so I love that God brought me this as a way to say it's okay if I just want to read and study about him. I have such a great father and so do you.
@@TheDisccity 1 Timothy 4:12 Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity :))
I was wondering if Tony would mention his book "12 ways your phone is changing you" which I've found helpful when talking with younger Christians. As with many things, it's a balancing act to stop a good thing becoming an idol.
"For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another." ~Galatians 5:13 God does 'richly give us all things to enjoy' (1 Timothy 6:17), but we are also to remember to glorify Him in how we live, not merely seek to live for our own flesh. I've a long way to go, but Jesus is worthy.
16Don’t be overly righteous, neither make yourself overly wise. Why should you destroy yourself? 17Don’t be too wicked, neither be foolish. Why should you die before your time? 18It is good that you should take hold of this. Yes, also don’t withdraw your hand from that; for he who fears God will come out of them all.
Add to this all the television and computer instruction in schools. This is desensitizing students to true instruction through face to face contacts and instruction. True school instruction is not based on entertainment value.
Goodness. I'm not surprised at how wise this is (given the source), but if someone can confirm that this was something he wrote and then read that would really help me sleep better haha
Genesis 9:11 Question: With all the floods covered by the media in recent times, God said he would never judge man or the earth by a flood. Can we conclude these flash floods are caused by man via artificial weather modification, like cloud-seeding?
I'm a little disappointed here. This was such a good opportunity to get rid of an unhelpful dichotomy between entertainment and holiness, as if entertainment is sinful per se. Even worse perhaps the implication that today's entertainment is somehow more sinful than that practised by our grandparents. Why enjoying a (worldly) novel by Tolstoj is better than enjoying (worldly) songs by Katy Perry? Okay, when good things become idols, we should stop and think over it. I'm not trying to hide my own weaknesses behind some vaguely socio-cultural arguments. However, it would be so much more helpful to hear: "Engage the culture with the gospel!", instead of the somewhat pedantic: "Run away from the culture to the gospel!". The latter produces Christians who are more fearful than holy, in my opinion. I recognize it is hard, but we should at least try to hold the tension between the two poles of legalism and secularism.
