I've been watching your videos for a few days and I like how informative but easy to understand they are. I'm currently 16 and graduate next year (I'm graduating a couple months early) and I really want to join the Air Force but Idk which exact career I want to pursue. Can you make a video on how to choose which career is right for the individual? I hope that all made sense

same i’m 15 and i graduate in 2024, i’m thinking about going into the air force straight out of high school. i have no idea what job i want and there’s literally so many, it’s hard to research them all and decide lol so this is a good idea!

Basically it's poverty pay until you make E-5. Most unmarried folks don't really care.but it's uncomfortable if you have family and get a deployment (even for 6-mos) to places that don't accept dependents. Its sucks for a young girl that gets stuck even with base housing - all alone to trying to deal with everything.

Another excellent video. A huge thank you to everyone getting ready to go to BMT. Save your money. Please do not fall into the trap of buying cars you cannot afford, or get caught in the trap of using credit cards. It sounds logical, but many go into debt. There are financial planning folks on base. They can help with a budget and a savings plan. You can do it.

Great video! You want to see something hilarious? Look up the pay tables for years past--it's amazing how little Airmen were making when old retired guys like ME were Airmen, heh! Of course, things were cheaper then, and I lived in the dorms and of course I had a meal card, so it really wasn't bad at all. You mentioned that your base pay is about $3000 a month right now. In 1980 (when I came in), you had to be a full colonel over 20 to make that much, heh! Well, it's just a number, of course, and everything is way, WAY more expensive today. It makes me wonder, though--right now, base pay for a full colonel over 20 is $11,520 a month. In 2060, is THAT what the base pay for a SSgt is going to be?? Maybe. Love your media! 😀

@@Strongfortress7 I disagree. It is important to know thatmilitary pay has been far below civilian pay since basically forever. When I got out I had the same job at an airport that I had in the USAF. My WEEKLY pay in the civilian job was about the same as my MONTLY pay in the USAF. The sacrifice that people make in the military is daily. We should not have our military members with families having to use SNAP and working outside jobs just to scrap by.

For what we had to do, we made next to nothing. Not a damned penny more. Once when a Colonel on base found out that most of the Airmen (enlisted) on the base qualified for food stamps, he wanted the officers under his command to talk it up with them and encourage them to sign up and think it of as "just another benefit." Those guys had no clue. Typical for an O-6.

Is air force worth staying in until retirement? Or is it better to get the experience and get out to find a civilian job? Everyone tells me the civilian side pays way more than what I’ll be making in my air force job. I’m debating signing a 6 year contract but keep getting told no to take the 4 and get out asap
@MikaylaRoseDaly
@MikaylaRoseDaly 2 года назад
It really depends on your personal goals and experience. I enlisted when I was 17 and left for basic when I was 18 so signing the 6 year contract, for me , wasn’t a big deal. I got the job I wanted in the Air Force and didn’t know what I wanted to do on the outside yet. I think most people figure it out along the way, as far as if they’re reenlisting or getting out.
@simoochka

There are ups and downs to joining any branch. If you choose your career wisely you can use those skills in the private sector and possibly make more than what you would in the military. Let's say you get into cyber security, that's a high demand job you could perform in the military and as a civilian when/if you get out (and all your training is free through the military.) One benefit to staying in is that you are eligible for retirement in 20 years. So if you join at 20 you could potentially retire when you are 40.
