This was the first year I really spent a lot of money in my business, not Alis level, but still a lot for me. It’s probably the scariest part of being an entrepreneur to see your expenses being double what you used to make in an entire year 😶
I'm not even close to that level. But just shairing my opinion... At the end of the day, we are all chasing a goal, a certain financial state in life and a part of that will be growing your expenses. That means you're investing back into what will make you more money. Will it for sure do that? Maybe not, but worst case scenario would be not trying, except if you're satisfied with you're current financial state, which you're obviously not. So yes expenses growth seems scary, but it's a main component of growing a business and wealth in general. I guess it all comes down into managing the expense growth and making sure it goes at the right place. Includes a lot of risk, but that's how it's supposed to be.
I know a guy if you are looking to learn how to cook dishes that fit your lifestyle :) Also, I hugely appreciate the transparency and honesty in these videos ✊
I was scared to spend money on the channel at first but when I saw your very first video related to this topic, spending money on the youtube channel made so much sense.. Love the videos man!
I just did some quick maths: Your revenue is $4.79M and expenses is around $1.5M. The before tax profit is $3.29M so after UK corporate tax (20%), you made roughly $2.6M in total net profit after-tax. I'm not sure if its accurate but that's a 55% after-tax net profit margin which is incredible. Maybe another video idea: Can you show what you do with that profit? Like how much money do you actually save/use for personal stuff, put into stocks/investments and how much you reinvest back into the RU-vid business? I think that would be really interesting.
Not gonna lie, this was SUPER informative despite what you said. I think getting that more granular understanding of what your expenses looks like helps make that 4.2M a LOT more realistic because to some degree it’s beyond me how that amount becomes “normalized”. It also feels very “Ali” to have this level of transparency, and I really appreciate your willingness to share.
as someone your age, i totally appreciate and respect the transparency. this allows me to compare myself in a healthy way because you say your reasons and are actually transparent. i love it! please do this as a series, every year :) i’m one of this morbidly curious people lol
While I was watching your video packaging the Christmas gifts in the afternoon I realised that your monthly budget for takeouts is my monthly budget - including rent, bills, subscriptions, going out, everything. In London. Working full time. And yet your video doesn’t seem like bragging about it. It is just what it is. I appreciate the transparency about your business, very informative.
I’m interested in learning more about your experience finding and hiring coaches. How you identified your personal and your team’s needs, what you looked for in a good coach, benefits, negative experiences and any recommendations you may have in that area for both entrepreneurs and employees. Could you make a video about that?
I think the benefit I get from watching this is finding out your value system. Money is a measurement of value so seeing this video is seeing what you place value on. So it was really interesting for me to see what kinds of things you value (such as books) and realising that I haven’t placed as much value on some of the things you have. So I actually get quite a lot of value from these videos.
Not sure if you'll ever see this but maybe consider a professional personal chef for meal prep once a week or once every other week which would be cheaper than take out and still relatively convenient.
Investment strategy entails first you knowing what you want to invest, and yes its also all about risk too, I chose the Forex Market. I have made quite a stride investing on my own but I am aware of the benefits of consulting with a professional but haven't found one yet, is he very efficient and experienced? I have been having this in mind since I started trading the Forex Market?? You got any idea on how to go about this?
I had heard quite a lot about Mr. Silverster Wilfred’s expertise but I was skeptical until I saw his broker was regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission [ CFTC ] and what I love about him is the fact that he also gets his/her invest Proof Of Trades [ POT ]. This convinced me enough to trade with him, I earn at $2,600 weekly income from his system!!
He remains the best out there, I still recommend him as we work together too, he is a better analyst, strategist and also very experienced manager and teacher.
You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life. --Steve Jobs
It is something to be loved since it is easy to know how much people make at least it is what media like to talk about but no one knows how much you spend
The video was interesting to see what kind of expenses go into running a business. I think the big mistake a lot of small RU-vidrs make is not thinking of this experience like a business so they end up surprised when certain bills come due like taxes. The one thing I love about the philosophy this video expresses is the whole idea of the return on investment of coaching. I think more companies need to hire coaches for managers and other things. Even in my day job working for a traditional company, I could see how business coaching would be very valuable.
I'd love to see a video on your experiences with team building: when did you decide you needed more than one person, how did you find people, what did it feel like making the transition from solo creator to team manager, what roles were the most valuable to hire for vs. contract, what roles were the hardest for you to delegate, what mistakes or hazards would you warn people about when starting to build a team, were there any roles you would have delegated sooner had you known the value for money, etc. I realize the conceit of the channel is one person addressing solo creatives/ICs at a personal level. But it's really useful to acknowledge the limits of solo creation and the value of collaboration and delegation. It sounds like your team has grown substantially this year, so you probably have a lot of fresh advice. PTYA in particular sounds like a company you *designed*, which is an exciting topic on its own.
Extraordinary person reading this, you are not define by your circumstance or your past. It’s not what happened to you that determines your success in life; it is how you deal with those circumstances that determines your success in life! Thank you.my 2022 resolutions- Get out more and stop social anxiety. Have a relationship with someone . Workout daily . I already eat healthy so continue that. And read more books.
I’m just happy that we know your ledger inside and out. It’s much better than most ledgers because we get to see your face and hear your Audible like voice.
Seeing your $150,000 spend on freelancers really makes me feel like I'm not testing enough on Upwork / Fiverr. Could you do a video specifically on how you find good freelancers to work with and how you build long term relationships with them? I guess a good place to start would just be to start trying out different freelancers! Also, could you talk about which freelance jobs you found the most helpful/had the best ROI in regards to time management/productivity? Really appreciate all of your videos, they always make me want to work on my business, no matter what the topic.
I just wanted to see your personal expenses after watching your income video. As a frugal women I found parts of it quite shocking. But obviously good for you, you work hard and help a lot of people. I hope one day to be in half of your position. My main take away was if you have someone who does your laundry how can you possibly be losing pants and socks? Is it you or them? Also, why do you pay so much for gym memberships when you have a personal trainer? Do you have an accountant for your personal finance? It's absolutely fascinating. Thank for your openenss!
The fact of the matter is this. Ali has everything going for him in life - education, financial and happiness. However as a subscriber who has followed Ali’s journey for the last 3 years it’s easy to tell my friend has a slightly insecurity about dating and it makes me so sad. Ali you could get an girl you wanted honestly.
It’s awesome to finally see someone posting the other side of the coin. Seems like too many videos are just about revenue which doesn’t give the true picture.
I switched to Davinci Resolve and Affinity products from Adobe years ago and save so much money. I've been in the creative space as a video editor and designer professionally for 8 years. I also can do the same things faster in Davinci and Affinity that I used to do in Adobe. I highly recommend the switch.
I wonder if it would be less expensive to have a personal chef and store the food in a fridge than pay so much on delivery. I know someone that does that but they live in a country where housekeeping prices are kind of affordable.
İ like the loading timer bar on the bottom right.. nice touch Also cooking takes up to 3 hours/day including eating and cleaning ... So you need to decide if this time is worth it
Always extremely interesting these end of year videos. Love getting an insight into how you business is building. One thing that always surprises me is how much, roughly, you pay per month on tech equipment. Granted I only see the youtube side of your business so I understand that PTYA probably requires a significant amount more and that alot of your equipment was stolen but still interesting to see it nearly match with how much your software subscriptions is
I just think that, for some reason in future , the public company would be explain their expenses through investors with video as well. I really apreciate your effort, fascinating!
Odd comment: I absolutely agree with the missing socks and underwear! I've been thinking this recently as I never ask for them for Christmas. My theory is that as they get ripped easily (if you're frugal like myself) I'll just throw them out without thinking to replace
As someone who works in finance, your expenses give me anxiety especially your business expenses. Guarantee I could significantly reduce that and you wouldn't notice anything in the operation of your business 😭😭
Wow! Your expenses are slightly less than a house we bought in Hawaii and we are paupers:)) Just praying it sells well when sold in a couple of years. Keep on! Congrats! You will make at least $7-10 million this year:))
Ali, could you please make a video on how you manage your personal finances on an app like Notion or Excel? Explain how you do it! That would be really cool and helpful!
Amazingly educational video I just have a question whose idea was it to make the video? Who owned the team realize the value in educating your audience on your expenses? Because it's so valuable and I would have never come up with that idea in a million years.. so the thought process is valuable to thanks.
Pity I missed you when you visited Amsterdam Ali! I am a long time follower and would have loved to have bought a coffee and exchange thoughts on online presence and business models since you inspired me to set up my own. Thank you for that big time! Maybe next time. Wish you all the best with all you do. 💪🏻 Remko
Hi Ali, it would be very interesting to get more deeply on the coaching expenses just to give us an idea which are the important coaching things you have done for your team. Thanks
Love the way you are this transparent even with your Tinder expense! :) One question, what do you do with all the profit the business makes? Guess its roughly round about 3 mil.
I want to get to that point in life where I dont feel bad about spending 40$ on takeaway everyday haha 15k yearly where you can spend 1/3 of that just cooking
Thanks for sharing with us Ali! Very informative and gave us insight into how the $4.79m revenue was generated! LOOOVE these kinds of videos, please do more similar ones! ❤
great vid Ali! Don't you insure your camera/business equipment? Would have helped I guess when your car was broken into. Sorry to hear about that. Otherwise love these types of content man!
Very informative on how to prioritize spending over what we value; thanks! Can you advise if you recommend a central application/ digital tool you use for tracking your expenses?
