HOW MUCH SHOULD I SPEND ON MY CLOTHING?

For some reason, a lot of guys think it's pointless or wasteful to spend money on clothing.
Many seem to view their daily wardrobe as disposable, and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy because they end up buying cheaply-made clothing that won't last.
You'd be amazed how a good quality pair of jeans, boots, or even a t-shirt can make you feel like a rock star!

Timeless styles, that will always look good are worth a bit more, and worth quality to match the long service life. Shoes and boots. Good quality are amazing. They are comfortable for years. To the point where the sole gets worn out, and the rest is still good. Take them to be re-soled and they’ll run for another decade. Jeans that last without wearing through are worth more. Bass pro redhead have been some of the longer lasting ones. Regular $40, Black Friday $10. Stuff that can gradually go from nice wear, to Home Depot run, to yard work only after lots of abuse. For not spending money, if weight gain is a problem, where your going up 1 size every year or so.. that’s tough to justify spending lots on clothing that will be too small soon. Same if loosing weight rapidly just going smaller in sizes.

You asked for my experience, so here goes: My goal has never been to dress “up,” but to just be comfy in the clothes I’m in. Part of that is blending in. Not dressing up or down, but dressing appropriately to the setting. I want to blend into a crowd at Walmart in one outfit, and blend into a wedding in another outfit. I also want physical comfort in my clothes. Cheap clothes are stifling and restrictive, especially in sensitive areas of my body. I used to not care about clothing because there wasn’t any bonus in my daily life for it. I’d get treated the same way in a graphic tee & wranglers as I would in a RL polo & chinos. So if it felt ok, I wouldn’t care. The tipping point for me was how long the clothes last before they call apart. I just recently threw out some pants that fell apart after 4 or 6 months, and then I went back in my closet to notice my Duluth Trading Co. pants. Ive had them since 2020. “I wish all my other clothes lasted as long as these.” It doesn’t even cost that much. Alex, you educated me on Poshmark, where I found these Duluth pants for half the retail price, and they’ve lasted me for four years. They cost the same price as brands from Walmart or Amazon, but they last for 3 or 4 years instead of 4 or 6 months. Big thanks to you and this channel for all your help in saving me money had keeping me looking good & feeling good.

Dressing well does equal feeling good. There were a lot of international students at my university that dressed expensively but not well. I love wearing quality clothes and classic styles because I know I'll get years of service out of them. I'll happily pay a little more up front if it means they'll last. Except for my sneakers, all of my shoes are resoleable and made out of real leather. My main watch is a subtle automatic that can be easily serviced and works in almost every situation. Ironically though, my favorite jeans are from Walmart. My around the house jeans are George brand and have held up well. My dark wash jeans are Rustler and are still going strong. Both fit well and don't have any extra detailing. I've tried Wranglers and haven't found a good fit. I refuse to wear Levi's because they're overpriced and the CEO is anti-gun. I'm not doing manual labor beyond yard work so they don't see much tough wear.

I'm conflicted. I'm rocking a Speedmaster most of the time. Honestly, I like watches more for the technological fascination, and the fashion value is a bonus. I'll spend the money on work pants (tactical khakis and a company issued polo is my uniform) because I spend a lot of time in them, and I want to be comfortable and functional. Other than that, I might wear a suit once a year, a sport coat once a year, nice denim and a button down once a quarter, nice leather shoes once a quarter. I simply don't have many occasions in my life where I wear anything nicer than flip flops and a T-shirt. So I let the significant woman in my life at the time pick out a few items she thinks I look good in, and take care of them for the handful of times they'll make it out of the closet. On the other hand, I could sign paychecks over to Columbia.

I was dressing up for church and other events. Working in Welding, I don't dress "nice" at work. I wanted to carry and look sharp for church and related things. But now I stopped going. I've gotten judgemental 😂 I see dudes in their 50s with dad sneakers, white socks and slovenly cargo shorts and think they're really stupid 😂. Over sixty, single. No GF. Maybe if I was getting nookie I would be a slob.
