I literally just wanted to make a stack of waterwheels to the build limit and it turned into a whole video.
So, here it is.

I'd like to specify this is not a serious video lol, i just wanted an excuse to do something silly. It was fun tho :p Edit: for all those people commenting about different ways to do this, There are definitely ways to do this more efficiently and compactly, and if any of you feel like building them and sharing the results in my discord please do!

Thing that's missed is that the stress units generated by water wheels is defendant upon the number sides in contact with flowing water, which is why a lot of the designs using water wheels have it wrap around. The large wheels may have especially underperformed as a result of this.

I would have sacrificed the bottom of the steam engine chunk to be a 10k lava block infinite pool using hose pulleys and then crammed as many level 9 boilers above that as I could.
@todmustache2884
@todmustache2884 12 дней назад
For the level 9 engine design, you can actually fit that amount of lava in the 2x16x384 block space between both sides, so no space would be sacrificed other than the space after the 5th on each side.

You can double the number of small water wheels. They can't be placed next to each other, but you can push them next to each other with mechanical pistons.
@SkyanUltra
@SkyanUltra 10 дней назад
theoretically you COULD put 128 sails on each windmill and compress the thing down to an incredibly small height, getting them up to 8192su each. times that by 255, and divide by half since you’ll need a layer for cogs underneath the build, and you have a theoretical amount of ~400 MILLION stress units. now you just have to ask yourself if you want to try to even begin fitting that many sails on a windmill bearing LOL

you should use the crafts and additions mod so you can have the blaze burners use pipes to fuel themselves instead of buckets... also they look pretty cool once you give them a straw. It'll also save room!
@Igor_PS
@Igor_PS 12 дней назад
I wonder how Create Crafts & Additions would change the steam engines? If you can pipe lava directly to the BB, you could make an infinite lava pool in the middle and just power then that way, which should allow for 3x3 setups in the limited space.
@skeej_inc
@skeej_inc 12 дней назад
technically a 10k block lava source would only be 39 blocks, 40 just to be safe, still gives you a good 344 blocks for engine building. Further testing required.
@jondorthebrinkinator
@jondorthebrinkinator 12 дней назад
@@skeej_inc With your 3x3 engine setup that had a two block gap down the middle, you could fit a 10K infinite lava column. That's 32 blocks by 384 layers tall. Even cutting out two on each side for a pipe (with pumps) and shaft from top to bottom, 28 blocks will give you an infinite source at about 358 blocks tall. Plenty enough for a hose pulley. Just mind the air gaps.

For the Steampower, you could have gone with your bigger design, when you fill the space in between with lava itself. It would be ~12k lavablocks, which would make it an infinite source - where you could add 32 pumps into - making even more power possible :)

actually, the windmeals should've won by a LANDSLIDE each windmeal bearing can support up to 128 sails (you only used 8 on each), and when taking into account the ability to overlap the windmeals (which you didn't account for), you can have half of ALL the blocks in the chunk be maxed out windmeal bearings (connected to 128 sail blocks and generating 8192 SU each) with the other half of the blocks used for transfering the generated power for a total of: 8192*384/2*16^2 = 402,653,184 SU (aka around 8.55 times more then even the steam engines) you're welcome

Isnt the chunk big enough to make infinite lava source ?
@danielrhouck
@danielrhouck 11 дней назад
You can’t do it with the schematics but what if you do let the windmills overlap? Then most of the blocks in the chunk would be 8k stress IIRC. Let’s go with half the blocks; I think you could get more but that makes the math easier and accounts for inefficiencies I’m not thinking of. Then it’s 4096*16*16*384, or over 402 million stress. That beats the steam engines by about an order of magnitude.
@skeej_inc
@skeej_inc 11 дней назад
You would need to -1 from each section however to account for a shaft connection and 1 layer between windmills for chain drives to connect all the power into one place, however it would still be CRAZY powerful and better than steam engines if you spent the time to set it up

Why shouldn't power my steam engine with itself?
@skeej_inc
@skeej_inc 10 дней назад
TLDR: if your steam engine runs itself, the parts needed to run it become part of the network and it becomes a pain in the ass to turn on later if it overstresses or breaks Its far easier to isolate the components used to run an engine then power those with a passive source like waterwheels or a windmill, the extra space is worth it to save the headaches later on
@demonicdondo4626

@SpiderKoloPL
@SpiderKoloPL 12 дней назад
Because if somehow your steam engine stops at any point for any reason - overstressing, chunk loading, running out of fuel... it would be really difficult to start the whole thing again. By making power supplying be ran on separate independent source like Watermills with their only job being to just keeping Steam Engine running with Water and Fuel needed to turn that water to steam, if Steam Engine would ever stop for some reason, you have a whole system that would let you start it all again easily... assuming it would even stop by itself as Watermills or whatever other source you go with would just keep it turning.

bruh this is brainrot there is no way you're using cauldrons to get lava for boilers the first 40 blocks can be solid lava for an infinite source and then you can just pull via hose pulley (yes they can clip through anything once they are sent down where they need to be). despite the loss in the 40x16x16 area you'd end up with a wayyyy denser setup and get more SU out of it.
