I picked up a 94 s10 to be my swap pig for $400. I also have a good running and driving Silverado that has a very rotten body and frame. I plan on using as many parts from the Silverado for my swap as I can. Should be able to keep my costs down quite a bit.
@@shadymaint1 nice! If the wait is too long I can do the vats delete and fan control as well as remove unwanted dtcs. Thats the extent of my knowledge so far.
@@southerngearz the 8.5" pumpkin in physically larger (same as 1500 truck). Can be identified by the axle tube's tapering down to accommodate the s-10's brakes
@@southerngearz go with the 8.8. You had the idea right the first time. 8.5 are garbage I’ve been through 3. A 8.8 is stronger that a Dana 44 and can be found with 4.10 and limited slip for a couple hundred dollars easily. Don’t waste time on a 10 bolt.
I need an ecu......i have a 2wd 4l60, gen4 5.3, and a welder and plasma cutter for my 87 blazer. I'm going to try to do it for 00$ I dont remember which computer I was told to look for, but there was a vid dont remember who's channel said it, certain color of connector or something like that
Go for 08 and up and look for red/green connectors though im not 100% on the colors the years are right. The ecm looks different than the gen 3 ecm as well
@@cordellarmbrister6043 where are you located? Have you tried pull a part or whatever you have thats similar? I actually found my motor on facebook marketplace
That is always the best option if you can find a donor for the right price but its not necessary just makes it a little easier. However you then have to deal with whats left of the donor car/truck. Of course you could part it out and make some money back.
I have a 1989 s15 4.3l I got a 04 silverado with a 5.3 vortec engine for free that I want to put in the s15, is this pretty similar to what you did in this video ?
How much was the hot air intake? I love when people pull a fully functional cold air intake out of a car and put one of those in and start sucking superheated air from the engine bay and think they're making progress
Ok so lets say you have an engine and the trans you want to run(4l60e, n1500 or t56 if you can find one). Dont use stock 2.8l engine mounts as they sag over time so get the full kit. Lets also say the 4.3l is out as well. You can use the original ls pan with some frame notching or you can get an ls swap oil pan. You can reuse you diff and the drive shaft since it fits perfect. You can rework an original motor harness with websites like lt1swap.com he has some great info on the ls harness or you have two options: go to ebay and get a harness($300) or psi($700). Then its just down to the little things like your fuel system. If you are carbed then get the corvette filter/regulator for a c5 because it allows you to use the single fuel line going to the carb. If tbi then you can use an compression AN fittings to attach to the metal lines then run AN line up to the fuel rail which has a regulator. You can pick up a walbro fuel pump for $60 and fit it to your fuel assembly in the tank. It seems like alot but once you get started it gets real easy.
@@southerngearz yeah I'm new to the channel but thats nice! I got a bmw with the n52 I daily. I just tuned it and got a 3 stage intake I installed on it. My old s10 I used to drive to school years ago has been parked out back. My curiosity started to peak when my neighbor ls swapped his s10. I thought of getting a bmw 335i donor car already with a n54 and 6 speed manual transmission. Plus I won't have to track down and buy so many accessories and electronics etc. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. I'm planning to start the project once I find a decent 335i for sale in my area.
@@chrisscott3001 yea the price of those 335's just keep dropping. You sound like you have a good plan for it. Will you be using the bmw rearend as well? That would be tricky but possible. I cant wait guy and thanks for joining the channel. Happy Thanksgiving
@@southerngearz yeah I'm planning on using the 335 rear end. You're right it's possible but gonna be tricky. I'm sure it's gonna take a bit of fab work to make everything work. The old s10 is gonna be a beast. Also thank you! Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!
The colorado has a bigger engine bay so it fits great. Being a newer vehicle you can get a custom harness made for the swap that will allow you to basically plug and play, However its not cheap. How much is a good question but I would think around 3.5k if you do the work. This is because of the custom harness which can be around 1k alone but is worth it since you can reuse everything but the motor and maybe trans.
@@southerngearz I have another question can I still I used my 4x4 transmission of my stock Colorado with the new LS motor? Or I have to buy a new trans?
@@xxkaiserxx2505 you can reuse the whole transmission and transfer case. You will want the ls swap oil pan because of clearance issues and the car intake for the same reason
I made one out of a fuel pump from a 96 chevy 1500, a 3/8 compression an6 fitting to adapt to the hard lines going to the tank and some standard an6 fittings and line to seal it up nice. Also a race fuel filter
Haha thats a good question i dont have a fuel guage or odometer but it cant be good i would think 14ish mpg depending on your foot. So really like 10-12 mpg
I used the original drive shaft from the s10, I got some cheap ebay s10 ls swap mounts and I got a harness from southwest performance swperformanceparts.com/product/ls1201/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAosmPBhCPARIsAHOen-O5y6XDAi4BoCfrqqmbcbz2dOcwQoxS9d_xgcM-VUXaVLhwhWAyCzAaAhX6EALw_wcB
Nah if I do it I charge for labor. The 2500 requires you to do all the work. Of course this was early 2020 money you would be lucky to find a s10 for a decent price these days. Now I have since rebuilt earl and went far more expensive and it fills much more reliable.
