Starting a RU-vid channel is tough. It takes an incredible amount of time. Your subscribers are growing and this will payoff before you know it. Your videos are very informative and entertaining. Keep up the good work.

Really appreciate the transparency. Would love if more photographers would post these type of videos. It's always so interesting to hear the different data. I do think it's a bit surprising the amount, thought it would be much higher. However, I have heard that it takes a while and significant views before making more just on adsense. I've heard most youtubers make their money mostly through sponsorships and the ad money is just a nice lil' bonus. Would love one of these big photographers like Morten to say how much they make, would be very interesting. I feel you will definitely gain a lot of subscribers quickly and you will definitely get bigger! You shoot really good content and are such a great photographer. There's a girl I subscribe to who is just a lifestyle vlogger she's got 50k subscribers but a lot of watch hours and she makes around $3k per month just on ads, some months $6k. It shocked me as I didn't think lifestyle vloggers would make that type of money.

You're right about the diversity in revenue streams for RU-vidrs, with sponsorships often playing a significant role. It would indeed be intriguing to hear from larger photographers like Morten about their earnings. That's funny you should mention lifestyle vloggers making that kind of money. Just before I posted this video I quickly searched what channels makes the highest $ per 1,000 views and lifestyle vloggers were on the list. Not sure if the source was accurate but after reading your comment, it sounds like it could be true. Perhaps if and when my channel jumps a few notches, I'll have a good understanding of where I stand.

Thanks for making this video and being so open and transparent with us all. I'm a relative newbie to even watching RU-vid (as well as photography) but find it fascinating. Whilst photography would never pay me enough to give up the day job,, I have been considering it as a way to possibly earn some pocket money post-retirement (though that's still a long way off) and my business brain really appreciates your insight. From a hobby photographers perspective, I've really enjoyed your channel and it's helped me learn so much. I'm really looking forward to seeing you continue to grow.

Super informative video 👏 Thanks for sharing with us, it's rare to see photographers talk about their monetization so I appreciate that. Love your channel as someone who just started to get into bird photography. The one thing I'm currently working on is making my videos longer but I don't find it easy haha I'm sure it'll improve as I go along!

Good information. For now I've gotten rid of my goal of getting monetized and just have a goal of having fun and releasing videos when I can. It's hard when I've got a very much unrelated full time job to contend with. If I get closer to the needed subscriber count, then I might re-think the monetization goal a bit, but it does seem far off.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I hope to start my own channel soon. I’m going to focus on shooting in small mundane settings for now. It’s what I have to work with right now. There seems to be a problem with link for the filters. When I click on the square filter it goes to a page where two options are given. When I click on either option, Walmart or Amazon the page just blinks. I am still on that page. Oh yeah, congratulations on your earnings, you obviously put a lot into the channel.

Could you please specify which specific filter link you tried clicking on that didn't work for you? I want to make sure to address the problem and ensure a smooth experience for all viewers. On the workshop page for Port Renfro it looks like two seperate workshops initially but the dates are the same, but available slots and price are different. It could be me. I’m getting older and my cognitive abilities may be failing.

But I can't help wonder what you think about those numbers vs the time you spend on all this. I'm sure it is very time consuming to get one good video out every week. I really liked the approach on spreading all the data in front to share with all. People generally tend to hide their income or financial break downs in making money on their channel. I think being so open and sharing the intension and the back-stage of your works are extremely impresseive approach. Really liked and feel even responsible in supporting your aforts. Meaning that we are also part of the game and must be hand in hand to support your contents. Thank you very much. Very impressed with your candor. I subscribed based on the video that came across my feed on using a two step process to enhance your photographs. I have to work on the process a bit but I liked the results. I’m curious, what is the effect of hitting the skip button when ads pop up during one of your videos. I really wish they weren’t so random. They pop up at just the wrong moment quite often.

Thanks Matt, I enjoy your videos. I kinda gravitate to photographers in the field videos. I would imagine those are a lot of work to create on a regular basis which is why so many photographers who start that format switch to more instudio gear related or photo editing videos. Hope you don’t go that route.

Using YT to draw in business as well as make money off videos can be difficult to earn a living, but using YT with other outside work along with sponsors it can be done... it would be interesting to see purely from money earned from Google what your hourly wage is...I think it would be well belong min. wage.
