Multi-plate clutches work with several friction discs, unlike dry friction clutches used in most cars with manual transmissions where only one friction disc with two friction surfaces is used to transmit power from the engine to the transmission.
Contents
1) Difference to dry friction clutches in cars
2) Friction discs and steel discs
3) Clutch basket
4) Engaging the clutch through pressure
5) Pressure plate, coil springs and push rod
6) Power transmission from engine to gearbox

+indraidabagus the engine is on the left if this is inside a Ducati motorcycle. Your question is difficult to answer because there are so many applications and most clutches can be used in either direction. But, to give you an example, look at a Ducati motorcycle. The shaft on the left of the animation would be the shaft inside the engine connected to the piston rods. This means the inner plates are spun by the engine and the clutch transfers the rotation to the plates with the teeth on the outside. Then that can be used to turn a belt that then spins the transmission and finally the tires. So the most simple answer could be to say "engine on left" but because of the endless possibilities he didn't want to say it as a blanket statement.

The video is very good and clears all the things with a very precise animation :-) My kind request is you can try to duck the sound of background when the narrator is speaking because the background music is bit too loud which makes it a little difficult to concentrate on the narrators voice ... but the overall video is excellent ..Kudos (y)

This actually works almost exactly like the wheel brakes on commercial aircraft, the obvious exception being the use of friction to reduce speed rather than transmit power.

Thank you for the great explanation. There's one thing about multiple clutches that I don't understand. These clutches sit together with the gears in the gearbox and run in oil. Even though the friction disks and the steel plates are pressed together, why don't they slip (because of the oil) ?

Excellent Video. @Thomas Quite often my Bike Clutch Plate Eradicates, that is the friction does not work, resulting in low acceleration and some time no speed above 30 km/h, in that case i have to change my clutch plate [Changed already thrice] My mechanic told me it is due to half clutch, my question is why does it happen and how does it happen and how do i avoid it?

@michaelovj
@michaelovj 7 лет назад
You can clutch less shift....if that's what you mean. Pre-loading the shifter, while momentarily letting off the throttle, and ill pop into the next gesr no problem, but to "powershift...AKA quickshift. You need a quickshifter, or a power commander/ Bazazz with quickshifter...If that helps

Hello .. I have a question that at the car clutch the disengagement is 1 mm for small engines and 1.5mm for the big engines but what is the basic cam properties that usually used for this .. what is the distance between dome of the cam and the cam basic circle ... or what is its table .. f(x)=??? ... and what is the spring K(N/m) constant .... ... after I did some not much presiced calculations I can imagine while pulling the clutch handle of a motor bike small engine: like 125 cc that it is like pushing 500 kg isn't it ? Thank you !!! :)
