Anybody else ready for a Chevy Formula 1 Team?!
Thanks to ‪@Driver61‬ for making this banger!
EDIT: For some of you who just clearly don't understand, I'm NOT saying Camero are better than Ferrari, and yes Ferrari battered them all over the course. but it did be A Ferrari, so get of my back and take it up with the creator of the original video 😂😂

Gotta understand something about the company that built this garage 56 race car. It is built by Nascar Cup team Hendrick motorsports. If you look at their win records at road courses, they have the most, with Jeff Gordon being the winningest on road courses in Nascar history, Chase Elliott actually being second, and Jimmie Johnson getting a few. Of course other drivers as well that have raced for Hendrick have been able to sneak a road course race or 2, Ray Evernham, Chad Knaus, all the guys that were on this project, have been a part of all the success since Hendrick motorsports came into nascar. So, these people are master mechanics and engineers, and understand how to build a car not just for ovals, but for road courses as well. I knew the car would have speed, but, was sceptical about it going the distance, they only had to change gear boxes because one of the drivers downshifted instead of upshifted. I was blown away at how fast they really were. And, a lot of these parts here, aren't allowed in Nascar because of rules.

Thank you for the comment as well. I'm a gear head, and love all kinds of motorsports. It's amazing what weight manipulation can do to the handling of a racecar. Look up wedge adjustments. They're like blocks, one goes left to right, the other goes front to back, that's one of many ways Nascar teams can manipulate a 3500 pound vehicle to turn like a light race car without having to drop weight, now, those adjustments are pretty much Nascar rules exclusively. There's all sorts of adjustments they can make to get the handling of the correct, more so to fit what the driver likes.

Nice to see appreciation for what they did from you guys outside of the U.S. One of the biggest digs that some people made was "It was in a class by itself!" which seems to miss the point completely of why people were drawn to the car. The fact that it was in its own class and the reigns were let go is precisely why people were applauding the car. I suspect some people just didn't like the car for their own biases, but I say it really did win some people over, and I'm fine with that.

Something else these euopean drivers dont do that we do here in the states is dirt track racing which a bunch of the bascar drivers grew up doing and is a whole other set of driving skills. NASCAR in the next couple years will be absolutely ruling over the european cars. And i cant wait to see the teams that will be set up when their is multiple nascars on the lemans course. European teams will be taken into consideration with what they do for their cars but nascar has alot more to bring to the game since lemans cars have been doing the same things for years and have gotten lets say stuck in their ways since they don't change much. Nascar has the privalge to try out all sorts of new things and upgraded technology and not be held back by regulationsile the others have. Next 10 to 15 years will be absolutely amazing .

ETS You need to check out "Bill Elliott Makes History at the 1987 Winston 500." He turned one lap at 212.8 MPH (342.4 KM) in a 3,700 lb. (1,678 kg) car powered by a ford 351 cubic-inch (5.75 liter) in 1987. The car produced 625 HP (466 KW). In 1988 NASCAR required restrictor plates designed to slow air/fuel mixture in an attempt to back the cars down for safety reasons. However, in 2007 the Chevrolet R07 Nascar engine made 955 HP (712 KW) on the dyno, and they were no going to let them run that monster on the track. I guess we really like HP, and the thrill of a 11,000 HP (8,202 KW) burning nitromethane leaving the line is something you can not describe! When each cylinder fires it's like getting punched in the chest. They can cover the quarter mile in 3.58 seconds at a speed of 386 MPH (621 KM) under perfect conditions.

In the 50s, 60s and early 70s, the cars were in fact stock cars. They stripped them down removing all unwanted parts, added roll cages, hi performance brakes and massive horsepower engines. Slap on a set of racing slicks and off to the races you go. Since then the entire car is hand built just like any other hi performance race car. Oval track cars are slightly different from course cars in the way things are built on them.

A thing to note about the pit crew are the jackman and the Jacks. The Jacks are aluminium to cut down the weight so that the Jackman can run and lift the jacks quickly but there also a One Pump Jack which means you only need to push the handle down once for the jack to lift the car. Ofcourse that takes alot of strength to do and while the Weight is cutdown they are still heavy. So jackmen have to be increadbly strong to get the Jack to lift the car with it's driver in one go and lift and run with them. There are videos of Jackmen passing their jacks to another Jackman by tossing the jacks over a car and the jacks are caught with ease.

GT3. GTE is no more after this year. We should get a reasonable idea what a muscle car derived GT3 can do next year with Ford throwing a few Mustangs into the mix. I wouldn't be so quick to assume the Chevy's performance at Le Mans is a sign of future dominance if they did decide to have a crack at a GT3 entry though. That Chevy 'NASCAR' was about as far removed from an actual NASCAR spec car as it is from a GT3 spec car. If Hendricks or anyone else did rock up with a GT3 Chevy, it'd be a very different animal to the one we saw at Le Mans. When you're allowed to throw the rule book away, it's easy to make the competition look slow, but it's a very different game when you're racing to class spec, especially in a BoP happy series, like GT3. Any advantage anyone gets is quickly snuffed out with all manner of BoP tweeking and fettling shenanigans by the powers that be.

It's been tried before, but it just doesn't build a big enough of a following here to attract big name sponsors and money printing TV rights on major channels though. We even built a dedicated high speed stadium oval here in the U.K in the early 2000s at Rockingham. It was an impressive commitment to oval racing, a full on dedicated stadium complex that hadn't been shy of cash in its development, was only outmatched by Silverstone and Brands in terms of modern facilities available for teams and spectators and got a bit of attention in its first few years with the CART series visiting for the first year or two and the unfortunately named NASCAR ripoff ASCAR series had a crack (pun absolutely intended) at it for a few years as well. But it never attracted NASCAR itself and within half a dozen years or so, there were no notable oval races being held there at all and the racing that did take place there was confined to BTCC and support series races on the mostly infield section... the style of circuit that we have plenty of already in Britain and in most cases too, already offered a much a better quality of racing than Rockingham's cramped, fairly short, slow and uninspiring infield ever could hope to match. 17 years after opening, Rockingham was closed as a live circuit for good. It just cost too much money to operate a stadium, the oval was seldom used and the BTCC aside, most series that it hosted were low key support series affairs. Even then, the BTCC is hardly an international draw. Rockingham did well if it got one live TV broadcast per year, I don't think it ever saw a capacity crowd in its entire operational existence, it couldn't attract spectators, it didn't offer much for TV viewers, big name sponsorship was mostly absent with its lack of interest or exposure and it sat there empty as a very expensive, rarely used money pit for most of its life. We have the same problem with drag racing here too. Despite having the very well facilitated Santa Pod drag strip, we're a long way out of the NHRA's catchment area over here and very rarely get the big name American teams and drivers. There is still a small but dedicated following for the FIA sanctioned racing here though and the gate for the big races always does well, but it's still very much on the fringes of motorsport in the U.K. Unlike Rockingham though, the maintenance overheads for a drag strip are considerably lower than a full stadium circuit and Santa Pod is able to thrive just from its gate and without much in the way of TV rights megabucks and massive NHRA connected sponsorship deals bankrolling it. Rockingham on the other hand, was dead in the water almost from day one. There just isn't the level of interest for oval racing here that the sort venues you need to host it rely on to survive.
