I'm surprised they didn't even mention the aero warriors of '69 - '70, when the manufacturers produced special aerodynamic bodies for the superspeedway races, perhaps Generation 2.1. Dodge/Plymouth gained sharply-pointed wedge noses and high rear wings while Ford/Mercury grew a longer nose, maintaining the rear spoiler on the fastback body. Turned the first 200 mph lap, at Talladega.

The safety problem with the Gen5 car (CoT) was the wing. Going forward at 200mph, the wing generated downforce: going BACKWARDS at 200mph, the wing generated LIFT. The roof flaps kept the nose of the car down (relatively), but the rear end of the car was going to head for the sky, and worse yet, the top of the catch fence around the track.

They conveniently omitted that most of those original cars weren't going home to the family for the week, They were outrunning the cops smuggling illegal moonshine and other booze. :D

Stock car racing started during prohibition; the cars bootleggers used to run moonshine were modified to handle and be fast, and hold more "cargo". Even after prohibition ended they ran "shine" to evade the tax man trying to charge them for their homemade hooch. The drivers raced their cars to see who was the best builder and to maybe make some money, people found it entertaining and would come to watch them race. I guess they don't consider the start of stock car racing to be part of the evolution of NASCAR, maybe why they didn't include it in the video.

As a life long, southern born, gone to races my entire life, the 7th Gen or "Next Gen" car is what brought me back to watching week after week and being obsessed with the sport again. Prior to this car at the end of Gen 6 it literally became 10-12 cars could win weekly. This new car has made it to where literally 20 even 25 cars EVERY week can win. It's absolutely unbelievable how good it is now. I know the short track package is struggling but the 1.5 mile and now drafting races are just incredible and IMO some of if not the best motor racing events in the world. NASCAR is realizing if they want to be relevant 30, 40, 50+ years from now a lot needed to change. The cars, the schedule, the rules etc and it's working in spades IMO. As 34 year old life long fan who lost touch watching every week for a decade I am so happy with the current direction of the sport. I can't wait for February 2024 for a new season.

2:36 In all seriousness, it's being narrated by an Englishman because most Americans who are motorsports fans more or less know this story in its basics. This whole video (the one you're reacting to, mind; not the one I'm commenting on) was made, in large part, to appeal to two kinds of people: People from Europe, the UK, and former Commonwealth countries who are curious (like yourself) about NASCAR, and Americans who are newly-minted Formula One fans entirely because they've watched Drive to Survive. Giving it an English Narrator does something on a subconscious level to legitimize it to those groups.

My favorite old school paint scheme was the Richard Petty STP cars of the 70's and 80's. I liked the old Mt Dew car too.

My favourite driver of all time was Jeff Gordon in the 24. I started to follow Bubba Wallace in the 43 during the 2019 season, now he is in the 23 car.

It's funny to me how much is never said about what is under the sheet metal. Not so much the role cage. But the suspension, it went from leaf springs to truck arms. Yes, truck arms it came out from under a 1956 or so Chevy pick-up truck. Stayed that way till the 2020ish. With a ford 9" rear end. The front end is A arm's like most road cars of the day in 1960. Double A arms, coil spring and a shock. But it changes which aka manufacture where you get the arms. Of the day not all cars ran the same length A Arms. So you could change caster and camber of the front end. The big thing when a lot of drivers got killed was the put to many roll bars in the cars. It made them way to stiff. Drivers body took all the G's of the crash, car's never bent like todays road car's. As far as the driver the older drivers used a standard bucket seat out of a car with a lap only belt. Then it went to the seats with a head rest. Not a full containment seat like today. That was the next step. The HANS came from road racing, But the circle track racers thought it was a joke. Once Dale SR died it went in by NASCAR rule. The big thing was the motors as they changed through out the years more power more reliable. Things that changed NASCAR though the years. Bobby Alison's blown tire at Talladega and him into the fence. The restrictor plate racing had started. Next big thing Dale SR dyeing. HANS device. Roof flaps. Cars were flying backward. Then the soft walls helps absorb a lot of the G's the drivers get.

My ALL TIME favorite is JG Jeff Gordon. Current favorite is "The Road Course King" as well as the fan favorite Chase Elliott

Nascar has made great safety improvements however with the next gen safety has taken a few steps backwards most notably with the way the cars crash nascar designed the next gen to be a lot stiffer when it crashes so many times last year the cars would have hardly any body damage even with a decent impact espically in the rear but stiffer cars result in more of the impact being felt by the driver several drivers had concussions last year including Kurt Busch who had to sit out the 2nd half of the year and was forced to retire a year or 2 early he still has yet to be cleared by doctors nascar made some improvements before this season started so the car bends abit more when it wrecks but idk it’s still abit to stiff

Dale Sr and Jr are my favorite so anytime the 3 or 8 wins I’m happy but my favorite driver in the series right now is Truex Jr.

I will tell you, The UK does indeed have oval racing, i do not know if there is stock car racing in the UK, i know there are sprint car racing. NASCAR also has international series. Closest series to you would be the NASCAR Euro Series. Former F1 Champ Jacques Villeneuve is famous for racing in this series.

Last year when they started their NextGen cars at Daytona race they're so loud and you can hear them from the front stretch to the back stretch that's how loud it was. But there's a problem with the safety with these cars compared with this year. Last year few drivers got seriously injured from hitting the wall rear first and front the one who was sideline for few races and one of them had to ended their career so here's the list was seriously injured from last year NextGen cars, Kurt Busch(Pocono practice or qualifying for the race(He stopped racing due to injuries) Noah Gragson Rick Ware and a few drivers) Now this year are different they cut some bars from the chassis the rear of the car is different than last year. They have 2 sets for exhaust pipes(Exhaust and Muffle(La Coliseum and Chicago Street course) different horsepower from 540-650 an inch-6inches of rear spoiler on each different tracks the rear diffuser have different types of diffuser things changed since last year

NASCAR Fast car, keep 'em coming, must love from North Carolina

Each generation tells a story. I started watching in 07’ but full time since 08’. I saw a few races in the Gen 4 car and I can tell you that is hands down the most beloved car for nascar fans. It was the car that made it to the masses and represented NASCAR’s most popular period. While safety wasn’t up to standard for the first half of its time compared to now, up to that point, all generation cars had that as a major weakness and it didn’t stop the fact that as a race car, it aged so well. The COT was the first car to not record a driver death and Nascar hasn’t had one since the second half of the Gen 4’s shelf life. The car looked ugly with the rear wing on the back along other things which made it unpopular but the racing still pretty good for the most part especially as it aged and looked more pleasant to look at.

They completely ignore the fact of WHY they only started modifying stock cars in the late 60s. Stock car was a CLASS in NASCAR, and manufacturers were threatening to pull out because of lack of viewership for the stock car races. And the governing body wanted the money the OEManufacturers were putting into it. At the time the modified class (which still exists, along with the newer super modifieds) and the EOM guys couldn't keep up with the wildcats. Who were just running lightweight chopped up Model As with the biggest/most powerful engine they could bolt to it. To this day the modern modifieds are still loosely based on that platform. So mid 60s NASCAR announced they were going to allow more modifications in the stock car class, so they could retain the EOM companies and their money.

I’ll say one that dosnt get talk about a lot is the window net that’s on any stock car now. In 1970 Richard petty had a very scary crash that lead to his arm out the window as it was rolling nearly crushing it but only got a broken shoulder. Safety has come a long way from the race on Sunday buy on Monday to the race cars we have today. As for the C.O.T the idea of the wing was there (street cars have them) gives sponsors a extra area to put a logo, but for the execution all it did was make them fly (edwards hitting the fence, brads hitting the wall and newmans flip) the spoiler made it easer to where the cars don’t flip as easy

NASCAR got its start here in my home state of Georgia during the prohibition of alcohol in the 1930s guy that would smuggle homade alcohol aka moonshine would work on there fars all the time to out run the law and on the weekend they would race thats how NASCAR got its start

How do nascar driver's like david rudemin's Texas wreck Servive a roll over wreck? Because they got you bolted in that car. You wear the seat. It's custom made molded to your intire backside. The headrest halo and the seat belts keep you from pinballing around in the car while the wreck is happening. It comes down to if your not, and about can't be getting slammed around and not moving at all while the wreck is happening then your less likely to get hurt. I will take racing seatbelts over any steering wheel air bag for my driving safety for the rest of my life. Because you can't trust any airbag to work after ten years.

Gen 4 for the big W! Just go watch some videos of those cars and listen to them zoom by the camera. And I think It had the best racing. The current Gen 7 short track and road course package is absolutely pathetic

The Car of Tomorrow (2007-2012) was universally disliked by everyone except........Jimmie Johnson and his crew chief Chad Knaus. Jimmie won 5 championships in a row driving the COT. As soon as NASCAR got rid of it, Jimmie started to not win near as much as he did. Of course his crew chief, Chad Knaus, had a LOT to do with that. In 2012 if you googled "NASCAR's biggest cheaters" Chad Knaus's name and picture filled the screen. He was fined more than any other crew chief for the illegal cars he made for Jimmie Johnson. NASCAR fined him literally millions of dollars over those 5 years, but they let him keep the wins and championships after they discovered he cheated. His team won almost $100,000,000 during those 5 years, so a few million dollars in fines was just the cost of doing business.

One thing that confused me the most in Nascar is why on earth is Toyota participating? A non-American entity, in an American reaching???

Nascar wanted to avoid was F1 problem. Look at how lop sided f1 is when it comes to who is winning each week? Its gotten little less 1 sided last year or 2 but used to always be same 2 manufactures on podium. If you didn't start in first 2-3 rows your chances of winning were near 0. In Nascar you can start dead last and drive to front to win.

Electric nascar would be ass, part of the appeal is the sound of those engines flying around the track

Electric wont be in NASCAR because Americans like the noise of the race cars. Also, Americans arent interested in EVs. I have an EV, yet mostly i drive my ICE truck, a Ford F350.

I started watching in 79' and when Jr. Left i did as well. No haters but today it's Hollywood meets rednecks and they don't match. The cars are ugly, Where they placed the #'s The points system. Is a freaking joke! It's no wonder that the sport is losing so much money sponsorship and fans. It sucks!!
