In 1971 when I was 11 years old my uncle told me I had to hear Soul Sacrifice. He played the no more rain chant and I thought “hey that’s pretty cool” 😂 but then the transition into the congas and then guitars from Carlos and Neal and then Michael exploding drum solo set me in a 53 year love affair with rock and blues music. Then he played I’m goin Home and then Sly and then Mountain and the Who and Jimi etc etc etc. what a great ride it had been. I now DJ for a non revenue deep tracks rock and rocking blues internet radio station. I’ve passed on my love of music to my two adult sons who both have their own eclectic music preferences that intersect with my own. The love of music is a gift from God to enhance our experience on earth. With me, it all started with Michael, Carlos, Neal, Alvin, Felix,Leslie, Roger,Pete, Keith, John, Jimi, Stephen, Neil, Johnny and the rest of those young kids rocking the stage in 1969. It was truly formative for me
Speaking of Michael Shrieve, I only recently found Automatic Man and My Pearl about 2 years ago, which I fell in love with; as I went to see who these musicians were I saw Michael's name as the drummer from Santana and I was wowed by the band and their album. Great interview John, as always!!! ♥‿♥
Let's not forget that after Santana, Michael Shrieve went on tor form Automatic Man, an amazing fusion band, featuring the one of Neal's friends on guitar, that being Pat Thrall.
