Great video. Super nostalgic!!

So I played neopets when I was like 12-14 years old and got really into customizing my neopet's website and learned some basic html and css. Flash forward over a decade and I'm a web developer. Thanks neopets, for sparking my interest in computer science.

Gonna be honest, you had yourself a 100% authentic neopets experience. It was always like this lol. You just speedran my childhood.

Been playing on and off for 15 years. It’s kind of a massive dumpster fire at this point, but I plan on seeing it through to the bitter end.

As a veteran player (+16 years as player) I can say that, yes, as right now, Neopets is very unwelcoming for new players, and sadly it is all because it is in the state of "Transferring" with the dead of Flash. I find it, sad that such a big company is having such a hard time just to move out of Flash, I mean really, it has been what, 1 or 2 years already? and a big chunk of it is not really fix, but something is true....I still play it daily.

As a long time neopets player, the reason certain clothes vanish from the wardrobe is because they're for certain species and if they don't fit yours they won't appear :)

It's weird watching this. I played Neopets when I was much, much younger. Seeing the item images fills me with a weird sense of dopaminurgic excitement. Also, shout-outs to Daggerchild11 who was my first girlfriend and someone I met through Neopets. After deciding we were boyfriend and girlfriend we proceeded to never talk to each other again. It would set a tone for years to come!

NeoPets taught me how to invest in stocks. I'm not joking, there was an in-game stock market minigame on the site where you used your NeoPoints and day-to-day there would be fictional companies that would increase and decrease in price and it taught me the basics of investing my money.

Also, coping by gambling is a neopets core value. I cannot tell you how many nights full of insomnia slot machine gambling took up my youth it was A LOT.

I'm only halfway through this video but I was on neopets starting in 1999 for around 15ish years and so far I'm struck by how he's attempting to play lol. Like the fact he is exploring the locations - no one I knew did. We all kind of had our own niche. I ran a guild that had over a hundred members so I spent most of my time chatting and then hunting restocks and trying to make profit in my aesthetic themed shops, and played a lot of Neoquest. My best NF was big into stocks, another friend was into making CSS layouts on her pet page, another only used the forums, another loved trading, some were big on rare pets and gourmet points, other battling, other rare book collecting. Outside of doing dailies, which we all used offsite links for, no one spent time in the worlds like he did. It's so interesting to me to see him like.. trying to play a linear game.

I stopped playing neopets since they tried and failed to make NFTs (the data breach didn't help either), but it was a joy to see someone new delve into Neopets! Loved this video

Sadly the site has been destroyed by lack of games since they ended flash. I’ve been on and off playing since childhood. Miss the old days.

I played Neopets back in those beginning art days- back when they had Macy Gray and the Kacheeks were “Badeeks”. I was obsessed with NP for a long time, until they started making it really difficult for people to get their accounts back when they were hacked or passwords locked- it was dang near impossible. Then they started purging “old” accounts, including mine that I couldn’t get into (and still had an active request for them to give me access to).

You weren't playing it on an unreliable dial up modem, didn't get the real experience of getting endlessly frustrated at the giving tree

I have played Neopets from 2005 to 2012, religiously. Then back on 2014 to 2018. I have a whole life on Neopets. I loved it, but it's not a good game, and the originaol Neopets staff started leaving just as I joined the game, on 2005. You see that data breach you saw? That's run of the mill because it ALWAYS happen. I lost my main account due to a data breach, and the support staff did nothing to help me. I had well over 400M Neopoints, and millions more on rare items. Then I tried to rebuild, focusing more on achivements, avatars and trophies. But cheaters always prosper in this game, because they just don't work hard enough. You see how the layout of the website is different in several spots? They still have not adapted every page. Over 200 games are now on Flash limbo and you have to go through work-arounds to play them. Starting Neopets TODAY is actually awful, because the game has several features punishing you for even trying (Food Club bets, for example, are tied to your account age. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer). Several item collections for avatars, as well as weapons, are retired and will never come back. Autobuyers run rampant on NPC shops so you cannot snag any good item. This game is a mess and should die now, or be rebooted entirely. Yet I will never forget my time on Neopets. I will always remember their old slogan. "Sometimes magic happens." I will never forget all of the old events, and the story of this game! The beginning, the feature changes, the first Dr Sloth Plot, Antorcha the purple Shoyru, the removal of humans on Neopia, the Pikachu eater, the big boom, the favoritism, ad0, the old colours, the games, the trophies, the avatars, the old plots, the ski lodge murder mystery, the stamps, the dailies, the Neopets themselves, the users, the rampant elitism amongst the users, The TNT staff avatars, the sacrifice, the Smugglers cave, the feeling of getting a super random avatar like Wise Old King, the restocking, the rarity of a r100 item appearing in the shop, the random Ghostkerchief screamer event, the Petpets, the paintbrushes, the Green Uni Project, the big big conversion of 2006, the sponsor games, the collections, Darigan Sword of Death, Featheralley, the realization that almost all UC pets were fake and created by cheaters, the beautiful art gallery that now has well over several gigabytes of pieces made by fans, the wacky random contests, Jelly world not existing, learning HTML, Hillary Dugg and other starts playing, Newbie Neobard RPs, the old extreme exclusivity of Drakes, the Kadoatery.... And much, much more. I will have these memories for as long as I can.

I've played Neopets for about 3 years on and off in my early teens and I'd never gotten as deeply into it as you. Guess I should've checked Neojelly. 😅 Glad you like Gnorbus as I mentioned before. They don't seem to be very popular, but they're my fave. Nowadays there isn't really much reason to play Neopets. They really dropped the ball hard when converting to modern standards, be it the flash graveyard, the clunky UI or the neglect of basic security as the recent databreach shows. There's better games to scratch your pet sim itch nowadays, even on browser like Flight Rising. But Neopets will always have a soft spot in my heart and occasionally I still come back to it.

I appreciate the dedication you put into this so much. I started neopets pretty much at the same time you have but i was surrounded with people who have played it on a regular basis for years and the difference between your progress and mine is pretty mindblowing. The community nowadays rly only lies in getting rare stuff and trading pets for new ones with better names. Your video has made me reconsider some aspects of the game i was too focused on the grind to see!! like lore and like every other game aside from ice cream machine. Tbh theres rly nothing that entertaining abt it nowadays but I'd say i enjoy the game alot bc i have the mind of a 4 yr old and waiting for the shops to restock fills me with glee.

Neopets used to have some banger games, like Hannah and the Pirate Caves, but it's all gone because of the death of Flash.

You can't imagine how long i have searching for the darkest faerie i once saw a video about it it was the funniest thing imaginable and i lost it. But today i finaly find it thanks to you Thank you!

Oh boy this takes me back. I was one of the only people to ever get an account unfrozen because people campaigned for me. But yeah, neopets was notorious for kicking you off your account for the slightest offense. I was super into galleries, and I had the oldest Fyora gallery for a few years. Then there was a scam that people were hacking accounts through the gallery html code and I lost all my accounts and never went back. It was fun while it lasted but very cut-throat. There has always been a very intense hierarchy and economy. So unless you've been around a while, are popular, and rich like I was you won't have a great time unfortunately.

This video is a masterpiece. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you immerse yourself in neopets, not just the main game, but everything! I can only imagine the true number of hours this took in playing, researching, filming, and editing. 10/10 video!

A cool challenge would be trying to get a rare paintbrush to transform one of your pets, the paintbrushes were always my favorite part. You can look up "blumaroo colors" and get a list of all the cool different looks. The chia has some unique colors i never knew why. Another fun part was the advent calender in Christmas time, and sometimes they would hold events, like the battle for meridell, which would add to the neopets lore. Oh also you could try to complete a quest for the brain tree, I could never do it

Man I wish you'd been able to experience it before Jumpstart. There used to be an easier to navigate map and hundreds of cool flash games, but you need backdoor links to get ahold of them because the home converting team is like, one person who doesn't know how to code. They aren't converting the site, fixing bugs, making major events usable. And the nfts using stolen fan art...? Better off just looking at one of those cool sites that archives old plots and flash games and sticking to Darkest Faerie. I mean, DF is like, just Meridell/Brightvale, Faerieland, and maybe a little hint of Tyrannia and Haunted Woods in the most limited way... I've seen some of the beta build stuff though, from back when Adam and Donna were involved and they were gonna have Kreludor and everything! If you're looking for surprising and easy content, look into Sacrificers and the TNT Murder Mystery. As someone who played as a kid, I remember the game room being a bit of a mixed bag but there used to be so many that it kind of didn't matter. Used to love igloo garage sale too but since they rebuilt it after flash died I keep getting the suspicious message too.

I tried to get back into my Neopets account a few years ago and I was so confused about how things worked, and so many things were broken, that I gave up. But I have many fond memories of it from my childhood.

This is crazy nostalgic, I started playing when there were only like 4 worlds, I was obsessed. My favorite game was Meerca Chase, I played every day :)

Neopets actually played a big part in my childhood circa '02-'04. Rip in pip Psywarrior(garbled numbers) the Zafara and PrincessZelda(garbled numbers) the Kacheek.

This was really fun to watch, and yeah Neopets is hard to learn lol. I started playing again during lockdown, since I saw the mobile version and I remembered playing it over a decade ago. It was fun completing a childhood goal of painting a Kacheek starry! ✨

It was phenomenal once. I gave my Neopet beer, it was a Macy Gray Kau, I played Keyquest - heck I remember when it was the talk of the school! We didn't have any merch on shelves in Australia yet, Neopets was so new. Lutari Island came out for the crummy 2000's phones (that you had to pay for) and was discontinued, leaving many of us never having a Lutari or ever having seen Lutari Island. You could only do this if you got it on your phone. I had all the lab maps, but it just means nothing now when the boards are so empty that there's no one flood of competing people for who has the rarest pet or petpet there and people placing bids to get it.😔 That was exciting to watch play out in real time. All good things (like Club Penquin) must come to an end and as Neopets changed owners and more features were removed, the site began to die. It's a broken relic of it's time now more than anything as a lot of accounts are lost ones and a lot of people simply never went back.

I remember getting a few Neopet magazines once every month. They're pretty big, had a lot in them. But overall I don't remember much. These certainly hit my nostalgia though!

I was extremely obsessed with neopets 17 years ago. Neopets taught me basic HTML and I made lots of friends on the neoboards. I honestly do miss all the flash games they used to have. It was time consuming, but so much fun.

The data breach has been extremely stressful on me. I still want to play but they still haven't responded on how to change my password.

Fairy bubbles is unplayable as of now. It used to be you get rid of all the bubbles of a certain color and you aren't offered bubbles for that color anymore. So if you only got fire and air left, you only get fire and air bubbles. Now you get a random bubble regardless of how many colors you got left. It's impossible and not fun.

I started playing almost twenty years ago....gave up after the game started pushing purchase items and free to play felt kind of pointless. Sad as I had some pretty cute pets. Had a split chia, a strawberry JubJub, a white blumaroo and a purple grundo. That alpaca didn't exist when I played - he was cute!

I used to play as a kid, at first not doing much besides trying to earn np with games. I remember the feeling I got when I discovered how deep that game was. I started playing again in 2020 and still find new layers as I play. The video doesn't even touch on restocking, avatar collecting, NC trading, pet trading, learning HTML to do pet pages, role playing in the neoboards, etc. Which are all things many players like to do but eh, as was said, there are so many things to do there. It was pretty entertaining to watch though :D

Omg the “vintage neopet toy” made me feel real old, I got so many of them when they were in McDonald’s cos I was obsessed with Neopets lmao. This brought back so many memories, also funny enough fairy bubbles was one of my favourite games despite how bad it was haha.

Really enjoyed watching your experience. Neopets was so much fun back in the day. I spent a lot of time on it. It’s sad how different Neopets is now. All the good games seem to be gone :( Both of my accounts were frozen at a point when I was no longer playing so think it might have been affected by a breach. I do miss some of the pets I had.

My favorite part of Neopets as a kid was playing NeoQuest. That was my first RPG game like that, and I was impressed by the depth of a story at the time. I also enjoyed the Cheat minigame.

The main thing I learned from this is that after all the years I put into getting the items to make my pets exactly the species and paint style I wanted via the lab ray, premium lets you do it directly once a year with no catch.

Neopets ruined my life when the required a password change in august I did it and now can’t log in several emails sent to TNT (service requests or whatever) no help for about a week now, if they don’t fix this soon I give up forever, 10 years of grinding and rare items etc avatars I could never get back means I’m gone peace ✌🏻

Did you master Neopets? No, not even close.. I spent hundreds of hours and didn't master it myself.

Probably an unpopular suggestion if you take game suggestions at all, but if you want something pretty complex: Try Lioden! I adore the game, and it drives a lot of newbies crazy which makes me love it even more.

Eating from a giant omelette, Being called suspicious from playing a game too well, spinning a wheel for an awful prize, letting my pet die because i didn't feed it (i recall a food bank somewhere, or was it a soup kitchen?). I don't know i remember those so well, but thanks for a peek into a childhood my friends seem to have had but i never did.

Oh god, the joy I felt seeing Neopets still has some of the same games and look it had when I last went on it some 10 years ago made my week!! I'm going back there right now, I need to play that icecream game again immediately.

This is a great video! I played when I was younger and had a lot of fun, but now it's definitely got its fair share of problems. I wish you had tried out more of the community content, including the forums, since a lot of us did make our first friends there. Would you be willing to make a similar video about Runescape? I think it filled a similar niche for a lot of us in our early teen years, and I still love it. I'd love to see you explore and try things out. It doesn't have a browser version anymore, but it does at least have a free version.

When I was younger I made my neopet based on my dog. 10/10 would not recommended bc I still feed him to this day or else I feel guilty 🤣🤣

I remember playing Neopets back in I think it was either 2007 or 2008 but I don't remember much about it, I do remember that my favourite Neopet was a little dragon looking guy (after looking it up it was called a Shoyru) and the only thing I remember about actually playing was one time I went to the Faerie's Rainbow Pool (not sure what it was actually called) normally it's dulled out and has no power but I went there once and was able to use it to freely change one of My Neopet's colour, it could've been any colour including the colours that change their appearance, it took me around 15 minutes (which felt like an eternity to my little child brain at the time) to think of who's colour I'd want to change and what colour they'd be but in the end I made my little Shoyru into a faerie and it was very cute. I haven't played it seriously since maybe 2010 but I remember around 5-6 years ago I tried to give the game another try on a fresh account but gave up after a few days because I didn't know what to do, maybe I'll log back into that account again.
