Good matches and bad matches happen, thus is the nature of any game. We have all had the experience of having been in a clueless team and in a team that just stomps the enemy. Thus is the nature of quickplay.
In this particularly stompy match, my team was very coordinated and cohesive and the enemy team was.... to put it mildly... not. Not to shit on them (as it happens) but they sure were very indecisive and passive, finally deciding on a plan when it was way too late.
Thought I'd share this match partly because of the damage I farmed (to be honest) but also to show...
(1) ... the role of assault snipers to exert map control and allow team to move freely,
(2) ... how being passive and indecisive is a really bad idea, and
(3) ... how a cohesive team with simple concise calls & patience wins games.

The running back and forth around the buildings is what I usually see from both teams on this map. As someone said, QP is like herding cats when it comes to teamwork. People will act like they were insulted if you even suggest a plan.

Many people are afraid to take the initiative and be bold enough to trade armour to get a better position (ie. Walk through a bit of fire to get a much better position). So they just move from cover to cover, hoping not to get hit but ultimately leading to a bad loss as they surrender all map control and initiative to the enemy team. - BrioS

I was listening to your description at the start of the video, and thinking, "so, basically, most of the enemy team ran back and forth within your field of fire for much of the match ..." It didn't look as bad when I was watching the actual gameplay (i.e., I was expecting even worse, based on your introduction). Your range advantage reminded me of the adage, "in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king." I remember one of the very early matches I played in MWO on the original Frozen City map, when jeht and I decided to run through the tunnel and hit the enemy team's rear, and we managed to catch a straggler (a rare success).

Enemy used cover pretty nicely but I was still able to get lines on many of them and pump out damage. If they moved out of cover, I could have farmed SO MUCH more damage which is scary.... Basically this match is what happens when a team (in this case enemy team) allows the other team to have map control. Then they are relegated to running around behind cover and being afraid to move across open terrain to the next cover. They had imho actually more range with the Night Gyr and Dire Wolf but we're too afraid to try to duel with me and then exert map control. - BrioS

Great work BrioS, that first 5 minutes is so useful. Still hate this map though. Any chance you'd share your top 3 heroes to pick for the event?

This map is a pain to play unless the team is coordinated and/or patient (which most are not in QP sadly). Unlikely I'll do a vid on the top 3 heroes to choose but that is a really contextual answer which depends on what playstyle one likes and what heroes one already has. Moonwalker is a strong pic for example. - BrioS

Hey BrioS, nice vid. Appreciate the in depth analysis of the match and what the enemy team could have done better. I usually run mid range mechs and when I drop on a that map, I often wonder what a good strategy would be to counter the long range, I appreciate that. Cheers sir o7.

Mid-ranged and solo dropping can be a pain. I love being more aggressive when I am Team 2 (in the West) and just pushing across early to take G7 if the team is willing to follow. To counter long range (with mid-range) is mostly don't walk across the open and get shot, kill the enemy that overextends (eg. the Cicada in this match) and just slowly use the flanks (eg. G line) to push across or just defend. Get out of the valley and use the buildings to trade with the ranged. But it really depends on what the team/enemy does tbh. - BrioS

ive seen this before, its from the team not paying attention and thought it was frozen city classic, you can see they were popping uavs at the saddle of the crashed dropship. if you listen carefully you can hear their coms saying "the whole team must be in the tunnel"

I must admit I love the map. But to be honest it's not really a good pick in quick play as it is now ; if we were able to pre-select a few mechs in order to adapt to the map after it's picked, it wold make these kind of situations less frequent. Not to mention the match-maker of course.... QP is QP, and sometimes you're on the wrong end of the gauss rifle, it happens.

A mech drop deck for QP would be nice but it could also make the situation worse as maps like this would be filled with nothing but snipers and LRMboats, making it even more boring and giving players less options/diversity as taking a brawl build would just be total torture. Anyway, I don't really mind this map even without range as there are ways to play it as I mentioned. - BrioS

i get this map maybe once out of 50 times, because everybody hates it as the match can take so long, with both teams camping on either side also, hoping to coordinate the actions of a random collection of 12 individuals who will be on opposite sides in the next match, is futile at best treating quickplay as a competition game is not realistic, you should embrace the chaos, the uncontrollable forces of 23 mad mech pilots and move on to the next game it is extremely liberating!

That was a failure by the enemy team being too passive and falling back after trying to push. Nice suppressing fire by yourself. I had to fix my prior comment because I misunderstood your explanation.

Enemy team just didn't want to act boldly and was afraid of taking damage for a better position or to return fire to neutralise me. This is what happens when they just hide and surrender all map control, initiative and advantage to the enemy... - BrioS

I honestly don't hate this map that much. Teams can get very passive and boring though. People often just hide tho. Once I took a dump and came back and team hadn't moved. Another time I took a shower and came back and team hadn't moved. -_- - BrioS

⁠It’s just so that every time I play this map, my team does the opposite what my Mech is equpped for. 😂 Nice damage here! I really have to play the Mech more.
