The Cougar has always been one of my favourite light mechs. Slow, wide and with subpar mobility for a light, it compensates by having the firepower of a heavy mech with immense amounts of pod tonnage. There are several common builds and my favourite is the LaserVomit Cougar (with ECM), often called the Mini Hellbringer because of the similar weapon configurations.
While a strong mech, I value this mech mostly as a training mech. It rewards very well for good positioning, patience, heat management and aim. Most importantly, it punishes (very harshly!) over-aggressiveness and bad gameplay so it gives one good motivation to learn to basically get good.
