Factory service manual has you lower the subframe to get to the starter/bellhousing bolts so you can pull the trans, and then take the motor out the top.

Grant Culham with a good leveler you can increase and decrease tilt as needed and bring both engine and trans out the top.

Lmao exactly my thought! They had the time to talk to mishimoto about rinsing out the oil cooler but could’t take a glance at the repair manual on how to pull the motor

I feel your pain guys, I had to remove the engine out of my father's 325iX e30, rod knock knock, the front subframe is stuck because of one bolt that i don't want to break in the captive nut inside the frame rail. So i had to remove the oil pan, unbolt the steering rack, remove front diff and everything related to 4wd, separate the ZF 4 speed auto from the engine (going manual anyway), what a pain, I don't even want to think about putting it back in the car. Keep going, you are doing good stuff I never miss an episode, when I saw the last episode with no vtec I was like easy fix, probably some shmoo in the little mesh filter in the solenoid, my neighboor's s2k did that last year, but metal isn't a good sign :(

Love your content guys! As y'all already noticed dropping from the bottom would of been easier, but you have to get the car respectably high. I like pulling the transmission. Yes the starter bolt is the bolt from hell to get to, but it makes this job considerably easier. Looking forward to what y'all find out.

this is funny. I just pulled mine out as well. I removed the shifter from the trans, the header, intake, and the Mishimoto radiator. I have the stock oil pan and it just squeezed out. The manual gives picking points so you can properly use the tilt system. Look forward to seeing what problem you have with yours. Mine melted a spark plug and parts fell into the #2 cylinder bending a valve and scoring the cylinder walls. This is just an excuse to do a Brian Crower build now. ;) 11.8:1 CP pistons, BC stage 2 NA cams, SS valves, springs and titanium retainers. And looking to go to a AP2 trans in my 2001.

Same way I pulled the F20 on one of my old S2000's. Fond memories. It's a much tighter squeeze with the oil pan still on; requires slight modification to the cross member for clearance.

Okay, so manual says you can pull it from the top IF you disconnect it the trans first. Or of course if the head is off, but other than that, the tops not really the way to go...just to reiterate what you guys already stated. Anyways, GREAT video as always and Thank you for the S2K update!

maybe some of that excess sealer on the oil pan got into the oil pump or screen? waay too much used.

I took my f20 with the transmission on. I took the oil pan off and the valve cover off and pulled it off almost vertically. The car was lifted with 4 semi-truck break chamber under each wheel. The benefit is you don't need an alignment or remove power steering, or refill refrigerant or re install difficult starter or align transmission top bolts.

Well you guys did better than I did lol I was getting stuck on the bellhousing that cross member when removing mine so I just dropped it in the end. Luckily, though, the rolling chassis I swapped my engine and trans into had the crossmember cut out (I was told for an LS swap) so that made installation really easy from above lol

So you guys don't feel too bad, even stock motors with stock oil pans don't lift out of these cars. These are probably one of the hardest cars to pull a motor from. That's why your front brace bar is bent cause someone probably already tried to pull it from the top.

K20 head with k24 bottom end, ITB's with a proper 4" inlet airbox and 3" exhaust done.

Seeing as i just did this twice this past weekend i can confirm out the bottom is the way to go. Motor on the ground in jist over an hour. K24 in a S2000 will come out the top. Ive done that a few times as well. I can confirm the K motor is 10x easier to work on in the engine bay then the F20 with a F20 manifold.

I was waiting for that chain on the drivers side to slip off the mount bracket like it did when you put it on the floor. Yall got lucky that could have been bad. Seems like a way to get it out quick n dirty, but that's sketchy stuff for such a nice ride. If it did slip you would be lucky if it only screwed up car parts and not people parts.

Removing the valve cover makes a ton of room right where you needed it. I've pulled 5-6 f20/22c engines and I've never had to drop the subframe or oil pan. It takes 5 min and will save you hours.

Honestly guys, get rid that oil filter and stick to the OEM filter. I've seen way too many engines fail because of non-OEM filters (honda tech) and I've been thrashing on my S2000 for 6+ years on OEM filters with zero problems to report.

Personally, I like to disconnect the transmission before I pull a motor. It's a little bit of work, but for me it's great to pull the motor straight up.

Get your oil cooler ultrasonically cleaned instead of "rinsed out". That's will ensure all metal particles are out.

Please just get a fresh F20C or F22C. Get it blue printed and balanced, and have Sasha do a fresh tune and enjoy the car. Don't waste time dealing with all the issues that will come with a swap.

Pull the trans and header, its SOO MUCH EASIER, I am on my 5th s2000 engine removal, this is a waste of time. Lucky they said how NOT to remove it. I posted a time laspe of me doing a motor swap. Not really a instructional tho. I should be posting another one in the next few weeks

Hoist leveler fail. You run it front to back so you can maneuver the trans out and over.

Why are you pulling the motor from the top. Almost all engines are inserted up threw the bottom at the factory and it makes a huge difference I personal think when removing it with the subframe.

Why do people refuse to take transmissions off of motors when pulling them? It's not much more work and it makes removal much easier. You have to take it off the motor in your case anyway.

Mishimoto is surprisingly lax about their maintenance and installation practices. Great products, but in corresponding with them directly I'm not impressed in other aspects.

Andrew P no Andrew your not at all I am a big fan of the f motor staying in being that this motor is specific to this car the k series isn't specific to one model where as the f motor they only have made two variations for this car but the motor was made specifically for its purpose and I like that about this car and Honda in general I think it's a great motor for the car design wise and think that Honda had a pretty good idea of what they were doing so I would like to see them capitalize on the s2ks stong points and see how capable of a car it can become
