0 Babadoo 0 same here. I just now got my female ball python Medusa last week. She’s the sweetest. But yes this channel and snake discovery are very good channels and seem to know what they’re talking about. Snake discovery does other reptiles too which is good. Her alligator Rex is so cute I love her. There also chandlers wildlife that I like to watch (and he’s a very attractive man if I do say so myself) 😂😂but he gives a lot of good info on reptiles in general too.

I was getting ready to purchase a ball python and the humidity level mentioned by Howcast steered me towards corn snakes due to the possible hassle. But after watching your film, I will consider ball pythons. You're a modest young man saying you are no expert on any of the snakes, but you sure sound like an expert to me :)

I know this comment was made a year ago, but to anyone reading this, check out Snake Discovery. Emily from Snake Discovery puts "Humidity Boxes" in her snake enclosures when it's almost time for them to shed, making them have perfect sheds once they figure out how to use the box. It's a pretty smart idea, and I'd like to see Alex use it and give his take on it. But yeah look it up on youtube, it's pretty neat!

First time watching your vids but I'm a 30 year veteran at raising snakes. Really good info and thanks for correcting those mistakes. It's actually quite surprising to find out that there aren't many veterinarians that know a lot about snakes. So good looking out for those wanting to get a snake as a pet. Keep up the good work.

Mine gets bad sheds at anything less than 65% He's 10 years old and I try to keep it around 65-70% per Colette Sutherland's book "Ball Pythons". 50-70% is good. She is the co-owner of The Snake Keeper.

Thank you for your videos, they are really helpful for my being an aspiring reptile owner. You and a few other youtubers helped me save the life of a 3 year old ball python named Slivlyon. She was given away to an uneducated reptile fan, and she suffered for it... She had nothing, no water dish, no cage, not heat lamp/pad, all she had was a feeding bucket. The owner would always keep her on his shoulders, even when he slept! He would put her in a couch that everyone sat on, so she would "warm up". He even pulled her scales off whilst shedding, leaving her with a huge scar! I had seen enough of the neglect/abuse, so I showed the owner some educational videos, like yours. Finally he realized that he was out of his league when it comes to the care of a python, he was jobless. He ended up giving her to a family member of mine who is experienced in reptile care. She is happy, healthy, and except for a scar beautiful 💜. Thank you for helping me save this amazing creature. I hope to be as amazing of a reptile caregiver as yourself.

How do you feel about linoleum being used for the floor? I'm getting ready for my first ball python (first snake in general) hot side hide is at 90 degrees cold side hide is sitting about 76 with 60% humidity in the 20 gallon tank. I do have a 25 watt blue/green halogen light on top of the hot side that came with the starter kit from zilla. I appreciate your videos and your knowledge on reptiles. Thanks.

personally my python likes it colder than I thought it would... he's weird. like I have the perfect warm side, perfect temp but his cold side I can never get it quiet warm enough in the colder seasons... but he seems to prefer his cold side anyway XD he is a special thing after all.

I've notice my snake doing the same thing but when when I moved the hides once he went right to the warm side bc his favorite hide was there. Your snake might just like a certain hide or maby he likes it cold. They have all kinds of preferences

this video reminds me: i watched a few videos to see what way a ball python strikes, and ended up coming across a man who taunted and stressed his ball pythons until they curled up in a tight ball, which he said "makes them comfortable". he also would force them into balls by covering their heads with his hand. he had an alarming, like seriously alarming amount of "aggressive" and "hostile" ball pythons. but he openly joked about the abuse in the comments, telling one commenter to "shh ;)" when they pointed out that this false information would lead beginners to abuse their snakes.

Very good information. My snake just recently stopped eating 2 weeks ago. Temperature and humidity is correct. Only thing is i only have been spot cleaning. Just gave it a good theral Cleaning. When should i attempt to feed again? PLEASE HELP ME....

Thank you for this ~ my ball python was eating small/medium rats for awhile and then one day she seemed to be intimidated by them? And refused to eat them. The rats never attacked her either. So I had to give her mice again but they are a lot smaller than her. Do you have any suggestions as to why she may have became disinterested in the small rats?

What's your opinion on putting blankets around a snakes enclosure? I've had mine for two months now, and he seems to be out of his hide more with a dark colored blanket around the tank rather then no blanket, but I'm not sure if this is good for them or not

Good advice, just wondered when you are saying not to use cardboard hides for bacteria etc? Is that the same as using newspaper for substrate. Not that i would use newspaper either just I have seen lots of people doing it.

I have a question about my ball python for anyone who can answer. Is it normal for ball pythons to lay out under heat lamp for days? Mine is in a tank. He either hides in the cool side or lays on a branch on the hot side. He doesn't appear to be over heating on the hot side. Should I be concerned if he does this for like 3+ days? Thanks

If i need info about, a snake (i have a 6 year old male BP myself) i would definetly start looking at places like this young man, but with more serious things, or doubts in general, i would call a vet, specialized in reptiles, or even better in snakes, in this case. But in general this young man, does nail it. Well done mate! ;)

My rock hide is double sided. Do I put mulch in the bottom of the hide, to keep the snake from getting burnt, or is it fine naked? Its stressing me out and I cant find anything on the subject. I just got my baby today.

hey so i really want to buy a ball python i absolutely love snakes and ive wanted one for so long now! my only concern is i dont have ac during the summer and my house can get pretty hot and humid (being 70 mostly maybe higher and the humidity could be at 70% about) and idk if i should even get one because i know they need 50-60%. should i just get a dehumidifier for my room? idk what to do :(

I'm looking into getting my 1st ball python (and my 1st snake) through my research I've read that ball pythons need a proper day/night cycle to be healthy, would it be good for the snake to share a similar cycle to me, 16day/8night, or would something closer to 12/12 be better for it?

12 day and 12 night hours is best. I have my animals set on a timer where the lights come on from 8am to 8pm so I don't have to worry about manually doing it :)

A ball python does not need a day and night cycle.. They are for stress free and do better when it's dark.. Rack systems do not use any light if you notice. As long as your ambient temperature can stay between 75 80 degrees. Dont worry about lights and even then just out a space heater in your room or get che along with your heat mat

2:42 the kid is correct, both of my reptile vets (I have one facility for my snake and another for my lizard) have talked bout how so many of their patients come in from their enclosure being to high in humidity. Both vets warn against bacteria and algae that is toxic to reptiles in the US.

my bo terrarium humidity is crazy high. its raining season and i dont know how to lower the humidity if i put heat. the heat will go up like crazy high. my terrarium is plastic top. HELP and suggestion?

It'll go down quite a bit if you swap a plastic top out with a secure screen, as plastic doesn't really let any airflow through, which traps all the moisture

Do/would you feed day old chicks to your ball python? I've read some things that say their beaks are a hazard but then a lot of snakes eat birds in the wild...I quite like the idea since they seem to be a by-product of the egg industry anyway

Is it bad to put a young ball python into a large enclosure? Such as a 40 breeder? I've heard it can just stress the young snake out, but if you provide multiple hides across the terrarium can it combat That? I'm getting a snake in about 5 months and I've been researching, but I want your opinion too! I have a 40 already, but if it would be too stressful I will pick up a smaller enclosure! Thanks

Is the proper size of feed really 1 1/2 the width of the Ball? I've never heard that anywhere else, unless you're power or bulk feeding. Sure, they have the capabilities to consume prey much larger than themselves but does it mean that they consistently should in order to keep healthy?

You can go up to 1.5x, but if you go under their girth, you may be underfeeding. So you should be fine sticking to something about equal size to their girth.

hey, I don't know much about snakes and I don't plan on getting one, at the moment. But I still like them, so my question is: Do ballpythons need to eat live food, in order to live healthy and happy, or do they don't care if it's frozen? (Sorry for eventual grammar mistakes, feel free to correct me.)

You should actually avoid live feeding as much as possible, as it can be dangerous for the snake with a mouse that can basically "fight back" during feeding so frozen is always best.

Or if you have the guts...you could knock the snakes prey out ( lol I'm too much of a scaredy cat to do that )
