I really don't understand why you have a rather small total of subscribers. Of all the astro RU-vidrs I subscribe to, I find your videos the most entertaining and informative. I really appreciate your educational approach but still keeping things light and entertaining without being too serious about yourself! Thanks! Oh yeah and by the way, your work is amazing!
Agreed, I think Dylan isn't for the faint of heart. Mr. O'Donnell only has the most hard core of astro peeps. Everything is in fact meaningless, and we are all, in fact, going to die. Some people don't like the truth.
Sweet stuff! Hope you are enjoying your winter down south while I swear at a barely dim night sky here up north (Norway). -The guy who brought you the "So you're a visual astronomer? That's cute"-meme
I realize this is about a year late, but I just watched this video and immediately recognized that you installed your RAM cards side by side. Most...and I verified with your motherboard specs, that the RAM cards on your computer should have been installed with an open slot between them. The way you have them installed, you have handicapped your memory speed by 50%. They are running in single-channel mode instead of dual-channel mode. :)
A couple of things I don’t like about these domes from various manufacturers is the lack of physical security and insulation. There also seems to be a lack of ventilation while fully closed? These telescopes are expensive. I’m sure there are measures one may take like adding insulation, cameras, sensors or a fence, but still, it’s not like locking your common mower you bought from Lowes one afternoon away in your shed. One would need to be in a place with near perfect weather all year and good security on the grounds. Hardly ideal for most folks.
Thanks for the montage and explanation. The beauty of being setup all time is aspirational for every astrophotographer. Unfortunately we don't have space for a dome in our garden so I decided to go the other route and gifted myself a pier on which at least the mount can be sitting all time to cut down on time to action. I hope to be imaging again soon (3rd child isn't a good sleeper yet). Take care xoxo
Another great video! It looks like a lot of work was crammed into that montage. I bet the team from Sidereal Trading had to get up at the butt-crack of dawn to get all that work done. ;)
I jealous because I can't afford such things and with inflation it's really out of my reach now. I can still dream though, maybe when I'm retired like most astro imagers I'll be able to get thing kind of stuff.
@@DylanODonnell A least you where able to set up everything with no rain. Is there anything in particular you where wanting to take a pic of once you can?
G’day, do you have a video on fine tuning an 11” EDGE HD ? I never seem to get those sharp stars that I see in videos. It’s like the Hubble astigmatism problem, and I think my collimation and back focus are right
Sweet,New Dome…😱😱Holy Shyte On The OTA,Looks Great,Hope Your Weather Has Improved.I Got Chased In Last Night By Clouds Again Myself,We’ll Try Again Tonight,Stay Safe, and God Bless❤️🙏🏻🔭✨🌏
Oh great! Now they fix the rain gutter issue? Oh well. I'm in the Pacific Northwest (Washington State, USA). I knew things would get wet. I love my NexDome observatory. Looking forward to some clear skies and use my new 8" RASA. See my observatory at lagoon point observatory.
We are moving to Winnipeg for two years, so unfortunately I will be storing my NexDome V1 for two years. Hopefully lots of improvements will be brought forward and we can resume backyard imaging in 2024. 😀
You should let Diego know that Duluth Trading can fix P.C., as exhibited at 4:16. That is an interesting problem of syncing a mount with a dome. Carry on!
Someone new taking over your channel? I don't recognize the clean shave and a haircut. And that crack shot 😵 . Amazing setup. I hope one day soon to build some kind of observatory.
Great to see this upgrade. But I couldn't really see the difference between the new and old domes. I've learned to live with the water in the "groove".
Thanks for the video, Dylan. It's curious to see the dome evolution. I am apparently at a "1.5" or "1.75" of the dome. New shutter, but similar panel design, so I have the gutters running around the outside. I'll be curious on your longer term take on the new shutter system. I have the similar HDPE rails running along the side and the opening and closing is smooth, but I feel the weather-proofness leaves a little to be desired from what I can see on the original design. Driving horizontal rains seem to be capable of making its way around the rails. There's enough gap around it to allow water to make its way into the dome (though it would collect drips). The door, when completely closed, even with the rubber gap on it has a enough (again especially around the gaps for the rail system, where water can pour in through driving rain. I'd attach pictures if I could. The back gap is easily addressable with wind skirting and rails that you typically see used on industrial garage doors or assembly line units. The sides, I am still working on. I don't mind a few drips from it on the worst rains, but I had a pile of snow end up on the shutter motor from a couple windy snow storms last year. Out of all this, I will mention that Babak is very good to his customers, responsive, and takes feedback.
I chopped the power cable on the DEC saddle and wired in and XT60 to a pegasus powerbox. I run a NUC and powerbox under the Edge 11 in my setup. The wiring internally is 105C cable at 18AWG, which can run 18 amps, which derated for being bundled with other cables and run through the chassis, I cacluate it to be comfortable at 9A. I run two cameras for tandem imaging, a rotator, two focusers, and two filter wheels, along with the dew heaters, and NUC and never reach above 6.5A. Also, ethernet run from the base through the back of the DEC saddle to the NUC works well. Cleans ups the cabling and power distribution nicely!
g`day dylan try a bottle of exit mould it will kill the spores (you won't breath them) and it will take heaps for the mould come back it will stink a little bit for a day but no rubbing and no after stain $5 at coles job done and low effort spray walk away ... hope this suggestion helps great video mate cheers..... i am VERY jealous of your observatory ya lucky B ....lmao
Really cool! Hope the weather is better for you. Would love an observatory someday. (Living vicariously seeing your set up :) ) Non-sequitur. What dew shield is that? Looks a lot cleaner and easier to use than the ones that go over the outer ring. Does it lock in like the scopes cover? I'm actually currently designing a 3d printing cable manager to get rid of diffraction spikes that will lock in similar to the cover. (I may also make one that mimics JWT... )
