This is Fritz Walter's performance for West Germany against Soviet Union - for the entire game he played around, nutmegging people, dribbling around and, of course, producing wonderful backheel passes right left and centre.

Thank you so much for posting these videos! As a student of football history I love watching them. As an admirer of attacking centre-half play, I have a request to make: if possible, would you make a similar video on Ernst Ockwirk? The distinguished football writer Ivan Sharpe said he was the best exponent of the art since Charlie Roberts, but there seems to be very little film of him in action. I'd love to see for myself and get a sense of how he would measure up against modern equivalents like Pirlo or Busquets.

I don't think that any match footage of Ocwirk was recorded (or, at least, survived 'till today) - aside from some snippets from the 1954 World Cup but it's not enough to make a video on a centre half. I would love to do it if I'll ever come across some! Got ridiculously lucky with this particular game - especially since you can see both Fritz Walter (even though he was past his peak) and young Eduard Streltsov (before that I was sure that there are no full games with him before his imprisonment).

"Did one every minute" means that he did 90 back-heels in this game .. i'm 52 seconds in & he hasn't done one yet. Maybe change the title, my friend? Edit: he did 12. Great little video though, I had heard the name as he was captain of West Germany when they won the WC in '54 (beating the great Hungary in the final. Hungary of Puskas, Kocsis, Hideguti etc & Hungary had a goal very controversially ruled out for offside), didn't realise/ know what type of player he was. Fascinating.

I'm sticking with my clickbait title 🙂 It's obviously not every minute, but he did 9 backheels in that game and I'm comfortable enough with less literal interpretation of the phrase in this case. All backheels are time-stamped by the way.
