Even in the epic, it is always specified that Draupadi's situation was unique and unique by definition means that it is not the norm. If marrying multiple partners was legal, how long before some people jus stop bothering to get a divorce before remarrying? The problem would be that marriage would no longer be a family unit at all, since I could be legally married to a person who is legally married to another person who is legally married to another person, and so on and so on... If you are one of three wives, and simultaneously married to three other men, where do you live? Your two other husbands have no legal or familial bonds with each other or your firs husband, and certainly not with your first husbands other two wives. You yourself would have no legal affiliation with your sister wives, because you are not married to them. I’m not saying it is wrong, only that it has the potential to become very messy and complicated. Custody and allimony issues would be a nightmare. A possible partial solution for some issues might be for everyone involved to be considered the legal spouse of everyone else. In the case of this family, that would mean that each new wife married not just the man, but each other as well. Of course in this particular family two of the wives are sisters, so maybe not... Also, parental and custody issues would be even more tangled in thorny in some ways.

Nobody needs a marriage license with the state, by erring that way -- we set ourselves up under a secular triad with the state, then that allows the state to come in as third party because most people who get married that way are 'in-the-heat-of-the-moment', they haven't read where it stipulates a business partnership on the state's terms. Draft your own contracts and stipulate with each wife what the terms are that are agreeable, then put clauses about separation of assets in the event of any breach.
