OH heck, I am the youngest of 8 children. (Catholic.. only a father & mother) and my Dad never got our names right. LOL I am from Philly. The grade school I went to (back in the late 60s=to mid 70ls) was full of big families. Irish/Catholics. Largest had 14 children. *2 families had 14. Islam restricts it to 4 and even then it says if you cannot deal justly between them then only marry 1. the majority of muslims do not practice polygamy. to think God has wives or even a gender or need for sexual intercourse is blasphemy. The problem isnt the number of kids. Its the lack of war, obsession of government to increase life expectancy and the eradication of disease (which had naturally kept human population regulated). These factors changed and caused the global overpopulation crisis.

Which is not unreasonable and is very common in the south. Each wife can pay attention to their 6. Plus, honestly, the more kids you have, the easier it is for them to entertain themselves and each other. I wouldn't want to live this life, but it's their choice and they aren't hurting anyone. If they were neglecting their children, that would be a problem. But until we decriminalize polygamy, they will continue to operate outside of the legal system and they will make it hard for CPS to come look in on their children. Once we legalize it, it will make it easier to make sure all the children are cared for. Plus, then the moms won't be able to claim benefits of being "single" moms from welfare. So win-win.

I had some friends who grew up in polygamous families and they eventually broke away and said it's a depressing life. The women, although they say they're happy, are not. The marriages are not happy or healthy. Jealousy is a major issue, as is the lack of one-on-one attention and love for all the children. Most of the kids are raised by older siblings, who sometimes grow resentful because they didn't have much of a childhood.
I understand your point, but what you say I take with tweezers because I have seen television programs where they show good and loving polygamous families, we cannot judge all polygamous families equally or generalize.

As the oldest of 5, I think having the oldest kids raising the youngest is really unfair. Yes, I help my mom and she helps me with my baby, but forcing the oldest to raise babies and convince them this is their only worth is mind boggling.

They each have they're own family with him but they all work together to raise the kids, in some polygamous families they live under one roof but each wife has a bedroom of their own. and in other families they each have their own houses. I fell in love with my husband when I was 13 and he was 25. But we stayed just friends until I was 17. Then with my parents consent started a relationship and have now been together for 11 yrs and we have 2 beautiful children together.
The story didn't even touch on the fact that the subsequent wives in polygamous households are usually on welfare as "single mothers" (since they are not legally married because polygamy is illegal). This "lifestyle" costs taxpayers millions of dollars. It is so weird when asked what was the hardest thing the wife responded that it was making sure the kids were fed fairly. She said we can't have mothers giving their children food any time they want. I can't imagine being a grown woman and not being able to give my child food. I would think if a child asks for food no matter who's child it is, they should eat unless it was near mealtime. I can see where there might be different opinions but would not think it would be a serious issue. They must have had a recent blow-up for her to bring that up.

I've lived in a container for the first 7 years of my life (my parents were building the home I lived the rest of my childhood in). It was a very nice home. It was bigger than this one (because it was for four people) It had everything (a big kitchen + living room, a bathroom a toilet and two bedrooms) it was very nice and comfy and a good house.

Exodus 20:17 (ESV) says, “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.”
All The cases you're referring to in the Bible only involved the JEWISH Culture (or Middle Eastern), wherein Polygamy is accepted. The book mostly focuses on the Jews, some of it was even written by them. Anyway, Polygamy was never Condemned by the Bible, neither was it Encouraged in it. So i think it's up to each of us and our different Cultures that will shape our perception of we choose to accepted or not.
The Polygamous Tradition comes from the Middle East, an area which was the main focus of the Bible. it didn't come from God, neither did i say it did. Monogamy however did come from God, as we see it in Genesis, there was only one woman created for Adam. I believe that the decision of which one to accept is totally up to you.

Holly Hobbie ya really after all how many people are on earth which means their are females who are bound to have multiple men but it's just more common for men than it is for women cause if u look at it through survival/evolutionary aspect u will notice that females really don't need multiple men since men can keep producing sperm if they are healthy but men would need multiple women cause women can only reproduce for a short amount of time since it takes the female around 9 months to give birth and since females only have a limited amount of eggs that can be used and with every child the female conceives it increases the risk of health issues and or dying.
