In this video, Alan explores the ways in which a 'victimhood mindset' can become established within us if we don't stop to consider how we speak about our difficult situations. This means looking at how our own language can trap us into feeling powerless in conflict situations.
It will often be that simple changes in how we say things....developing more 'mindful communication'....will help us to review how we are seeing our difficult situations and in turn change how we are dealing with them.
The video Alan refers to about a quote by Eckhart Tolle can be found at this link:

I appreciate the message - not encouraging victimhood is so important! I discuss how some people get validation & encouragement mixed up particularly when it comes to this topic in the last video on my channel as well, from a parenting perspective. I hope messages like ours empower people to avoid labeling themselves a victim! I just subscribed to your channel too, keep it up.

Thanks Brian, yes I think there's a risk that even practitioners themselves can maintain an unnecessary sense of victimhood through their own language with clients but ultimately it is still for anyone experiencing a challenge to support themselves through self-reflection on how they are seeing and responding to their difficulty, and, as you saw in the video the clues to that can show up in our language.

@@CommunicationandConflict I agree, it's important to validate when someone feels like a victim or hurt - but some people can that idea confused, and can encourage someone to feel more hurt than they actually are.
