It's week 2 of his rookie year, I feel I'm taking crazy pills with the amount of people claiming the sky is falling when the team is 1-1, we lost the game we expected to lose by only 6, and his first half numbers were fine. So many people say we need to sit or let rookie QBs feel the bumps of development, then turnaround and are saying Caleb is already a bust. Pick one.
As a Texans fan, stroud did just fine in his rookie year. You have it or you don’t, sitting is stupid. Williams looked way better against the Texans than he did week one. He’s already better than Bryce “too tall” Young.
For real, he didn’t look great on Sunday but to say he showed absolutely no improvement between the two games is laughable. Sample size is way too small to have a verdict it’s only fair if we give him time to develop
@@nwj03a Stroud is an exception. Many more QBs don't fit into the 'have it or you don't' lens. I wouldn't even think about pulling the plug on Williams until at least midseason, and then only if he is truly abysmal, not merely bad.
@@bennyhath1789 Of course not. But any remotely reasonably response will take into account that two games is just two games and just doesn't mean much. Saying a player is doing great so far or horrible so far this year whatever is very reasonable. Saying they are a bust because of two games is not, and anything close to that also is not.
CW was 10/12 91 yards when he wasn’t pressured. No matter what people say, there is a learning curve rookie QB. He’s going to learn. I’ve been a Bears fan forever and CW just needs to be decent his rookie season.
@@ronaneverett529 true, but I do feel like he was actually able to drive down the field for most of the game, until he started throwing picks in the 4th
@@ronaneverett529 keep in mind though, this time they played the texans. in the first half he was 12/15 for 95 yards at one point and then in the second half it all fell apart. in the first game they couldn't move the ball at all.
@@Luke0_27 Aside from the two interceptions (and the third that was called back), it felt like most of his passes were either 5 yards overthrown, thrown away to the sideline, or check downs at/near the LoS
I had a Coach whose philosophy was, if you can gain at least 3.35 yards per play that's all you need to win. Sounds crazy, but we were very successful under him. The last season I played under him we only lost 2 games, one in the regular season, and the second was the semi-final game of our state's championship. The 49ers in week one reminded me of our games. Drives that wore down the defense and chewed up the clock. It wasn't pretty, but it worked. That's the kind of thinking, I believe some of the teams who are struggling on offense, especially at the QB position, need to adopt. Stop trying to play, "highlight reel" football, and stick with the basics. Get down, get dirty, come off the ball hard, and smash the defense in the mouth every time you snap the ball.
Dude Bo Nix is 2 years older. That’s not old. That when QBs should be in their prime after being the league a few years. He’s a rookie, he had the same chance to be successful as Williams
@@eriksports so? So Williams has less experience. So he’s going to be terrible because Bo Nix has more experience and more success. Played in bigger games. It’s about coaching and development. Age doesn’t have a factor. They are both rookies and developing like rookies.
We got one DJ Moore TD in preseason with a screen pass in 2023 and the Offense just can't stop calling it even though it was shut down by all opposition teams by week 1 of 2023...
Caleb was 6th in the NFL this week in release time in his 2nd NFL game. He was actually almost perfect when he wasn’t blitzed. Against the blitz the line was terrible, Keenan Allen was out leaving DJ Moore (the defensive focus) and the two rookies. Enjoy his growing pains NFL, it’s coming.
Nah it’s not Williams . It was his O-line . Poor dude was running for his entire life for the entire game . The fact he got 177 plus yards under such circumstances is impressive . If he had a proper O-line he would definetly have at least TD
Part of that is on Caleb. Hes still learning how to set protections presnap and he also doesnt have a good feel for throwing while under pressure. I seen film review that showed even when he does have time hes making the wrong reads. He looks like a rookie.
Caleb is doing things in his 1st 2 games that Mitch and Fields still can't do: call out the mike, change protections, get the ball out on time. He's just built different. He is going to be just fine. Bears need to protect better and run the ball better to open up play action for him.
I don't understand how people are blaming Eberflus. I hated him last year, but he is the reason we have stayed in games. The challenges came from upstairs
People also have a fundamental misunderstanding of what a good challenge is. A challenge that results in 3 more yards of field position on 1st and 10 is a bad challenge even if you win it 90% of the time. A challenge that results in a touchdown or turnover 20% of the time is a good challenge, because in a league where most games are won or lost by a single score, that's a 20% chance to change the outcome of the game. This is why touchdowns and turnovers are automatically reviewed, because otherwise coaches would just blow their challenges on the first two opposing turnovers or touchdowns. If you have a chance, even a small chance to create a TD or turnover, it's worth risking a timeout once per half to try it.
If we're comparing Williams to Nix we need to take in consideration the lack of run game from both teams. It's ridiculous to have them both throwing so much
As a Bears fan, I did buy into the hype all offseason and was pretty high following Hard Knocks. Product on the field hasn't come close to living up to a fraction of any of those expectations but good lord, it's two weeks. The O-line was clearly the issue against the Strouds, but they've got two exceptional edge rushers and once the run was shown to fail they had their ears pinned back all night. Bears will be fine, probably miss the playoffs but will still be around 8-9 wins, and can focus on rebuilding the O-line next offseason.
Pretty patient probably which is what the guys seem to say. Nice video with a lot of well reasoned reporting. The line play is awful. There's a new starting center, the right guard (Davis) doesn't like to practice and on game day it shows, and the returning starters are playing the worst of their careers. Teven Jenkins (left guard) said after the game he thought t was more on the coaches fault and the line play was pretty good. Two things can be true... bad play call AND bad line play. All that makes Caleb, who'd probably still be making mistakes under the best circumstances, look even worse.
I've been saying all summer that there will be growing pains. I was not expecting it to be this bad. I think Caleb can be a good qb, but a qb needs 5 guys in front of him.
As brutal as it was for Caleb, he still had some things to recommend him. He got the crap beat out of him but got up and kept playing every time. He never pointed fingers at teammates or blamed anyone else in the press conference. He did show a skill set and a couple of scrambles that showed some flash and potential where he was able to get out of jail and get throws off. He just wasn't hitting the side of a barn with the throws. If he can fix his accuracy with throwing on he run, he could be Favre like. He has a cannon, he has legs, he has size and toughness, he has leadership ability. It's like he has a collection of abilities but no *game* yet. I can see him working his way through it and learning to be a dominant quarterback. He says Rodgers is his model, but I think he's really more like Favre. Rodgers hits his targets.
As a Seahawk fan, I can confirm the overall rejoicing of the 12's in getting rid of Waldron. I watched the Bears game last night and their offense LOOKED LIKE TEXTBOOK WALDRON.
I was always hesitant to jump on the blame Waldron wagon. After those games thought, man, it is clear this is Waldron's fault. I hope he doesn't derail Caleb's career right out of the gate.
That doesn’t mean much Eagles fans were happy when Ganon left for the Cardinals and look at them now. They played hard and for each other. The culture is a 180. The eagles got worse on defense. So just because someone leaves doesn’t mean it gets better
@@sevinbamuels6560 ask the Bears about Waldron at the end of the year. And ask Broncos fans whether or not to listen to Seattle fans when they are happy to see someone leave town….
@@gailonebell2154 Goo! the end of the season is how it’s supposed to be to. At least mid season. Not in week 2 of installing an offense with a new team. And Russ is old now. He lost a step two years ago. I don’t think he really wants to play.
I think why it's a slow start for everyone. Every team bench there starters for spring training. Know it spring training is now for them. But the real game count for something.
CW had a better game this week, everyone is so focused on wins and looking to see him either make a big play or screw up. That's not how this works, he's got to develop. CW is doing things in the pocket right now that most rookies QB's can't, he's calling out protections, he's audibling at the line. His footwork is good most of the time(not great), he's making the right reads and this is his second week. The o line isn't good but after re-watching the game, they did give him opportunities that either CW didn't take advantage of or the receivers didn't. He's also trying to play in the structure of the play, he's not playing hero ball (like a lot of people assumed he would), he's making rookie mistakes. Overall, I'm very excited to see how he improved from week 1 and I can't wait to see how he'll improve to week 3. I really hate all these over reactions, it's insane how many people are acting like the sky is falling and the season is over and CW is a bust. He isn't a bust and once CW and his receivers start connecting, watch out, it's going to be an exciting ride.
They faced a titans defense that gave Rodgers fits and a Texans team that’s Super Bowl contenders. He’s in game two with an overhauled offense. Let’s wait until at least the bye week before we start making assumptions
Some QBs like Bo Nix and Caleb Williams need to be cut a little bit more slack with it being their first year with ONLY TWO GAMES played so far!! Some QBs like Bryce Young need to be released from horrible teams that kill quaterbacks and see if they can produce with better teams. Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield were forced into horrirble organizations in their careers . . . . Now? Now they're playing some of the best football in their careers!!! There needs to be more talk about what the front office, coaches, and coordinators are doing for their players and not just what the players are doing.
The hyped freshmen QBs playing right now are learning a lesson that their coaches should know - 1st year QBs need to sit for at least a year before they start. That used to be the norm, but today they are being thrown into a game that is more complicated, that's faster and just more brutal. The damage done now (physically and mentally) will take time for recovery. Looks like all the people who sneered at Atlanta were wrong. No doubt Penix will be the future starting QB but for now he is getting the foundational knowledge needed before stepping onto the field.
It would be better for him if ghey gave him a year like the Patriots are doing, and give him a year to watch and learn, and getting used to the offensive scheme, and give the team some more time to develop and also draft more pieces to the O-Line
Bears could have traded that #1 pick for somewhere between the 4-7 pick and gotten probably 2 more 1st round picks and either 3 2nd round picks or a combo of 5 3rd and 4th round picks over the last draft and the next 2 and rebuilt the entire team. It's horrible to put a young QB behind a bad O-line.
The issue is people like Nick Wright and certain Bears fans talking Caleb up so damn much. He is talented but also not an elite processor who can come in and direct his team. The QB's who tend to find early success are either the really smart ones who adapt quickly to the mental toll of the game or the elite scramblers. He will end up being at least a solid QB because of his talent and physical traits but the praise and vitriol both ways has been over the top. So far though, he has been fine. He has looked similar to how Love did early last season
As a Packers fan, I’ve cracked my fair share of jokes about Fields as the Bears QB. But it was hilariously obvious that the Bears o-line was hot garbage. There fact that the majority of Fields highlights during his time in Chicago was him running out of the pocket, not by design but by a desperation to buy time, says as much. And in the first 2 weeks of Caleb Williams in Chicago, we’re still seeing those highlights, so it tells you there’s still major red flags up front for the Bears offense.
If social media existed during the entire history of the NFL, a ton of great players would have been kicked to the curb instead of having a star career.
To me, its coaches and O-line. O-line just giving any QB less than two seconds to throw and any QB would struggle. Waldron too needs to adapt because they did not adapt or set offense up for success
The Bears are stuck in this Sisyphean Cycle, They draft a highly touted QB in the 1st round, they play like shit, the Head Coach is fired, a new coach is brought in to "fix" the QB, They play slightly better, but the QB improves slightly, The next season is full of hope and optimism, the bears play like absolute shit, The Head coach manages to convince the owners that the QB was the problem not him and at the end of the season they get rid of the QB, The draft a highly touted QB in the First round, they play like shit, the Head coach is fired, rinse repeat.
It’s been 2 games, Williams needs time….and a different coach. Often times, QBs fail by being in the wrong situation. Look at Geno Smith. He suffered in the offensive hell that is the Jets, but is now thriving in Seattle. I think Bryce Young’s best chance to succeed will be on a different team.
Give it a rest, Peyton Manning rookie season Game 2. 21 of 37, 1 TD, 3 INT Colts lost 29-6. Does the Bears O-Line suck, god yes. Is there play calling terrible ? Absolutely. Beyond that there's not much to say. Dallas got absolutely shellacked by NO, 49ers lost to the Vikings, the Vikings, the Ravens lost to the Raiders, is their season over ?
Two games doesn't show much honestly even coming from a packers fan his o line is bad his coaching is meh but has a great defense but give it time it'll work out I want competitive football games with all rivals
Williams is a rookie QB, he's playing like a rookie QB. There are ten other guys on the offensive unit, and the OC is calling the plays. He's doing better than Bo Pix.
I love Tom but holy shit this coming from a Packers fan is fucking delicious, Love was AVERAGE AT BEST in the first 10 games of last year. Love threw 11 picks in 9 games to start last season, and all we kept hearing from Tom was “there’s positives to take away”. Williams missed some throws but behind that OL putting up 170 passing yards while being pressured on almost every single snap isn’t great but he is far from the main issue, play calling is uninspired, the OL can’t do anything. It’s game 2 with an entirely new offense, let’s calm down, the sky isn’t falling.
Chicago drafted a savior with no O line... What do you expect? And another thing, we gotta stop throwing around the word bust after only 2 games man... Let these kids play.
Caleb just shouldn't be playing this year, like the majority of rookies. Teams need to develop their guys instead of setting them up to fail like this.
The bears were NOT number 1 overall pick bad. They were an average team that loaded up on weapons linemen depth and added a “generational QB”. Refuse to let people rewrite history like people weren’t saying things like “best situation for a rookie QB ever
The fact that people thought Vikings would be worse than the Bears was laughable. Vikings have an offensive headcoach. They can move the ball down field and score on offense. Bears have no offense.
Nah, he’s already better than Jamarcus, Jones, mayfield, young, and lance. Maybe he won’t be what he was hyped to be, but they are 1-1… the loss was by 6 to a playoff team on the road.
Waldron was so inconsistent with the Seahawks. Believe me I’m a Seahawks fan. First year, 2021; Not good. 2022; improved but not great. 2023; my opinion, his worst year yet. I laughed when the Bears picked him up.
Bears already blew it. Shouldve kept Caleb on the bench for the entire season but now its too late to put that cat in the bag. He'll spend his entire rookie year running for his life which will stunt most of his growth. Maybe some other team can fix him in 2-3 years once the bears move on to their next victim.
It’s almost like Justin was not the actual problem. The offensive line could not block for anything. As for Caleb… don’t think he was as good as everyone was hyping him up to be.
After 2 weeks still havent seen any flashes of this supposed generational qb . Bro lowkey might be worse then fields its early he likely figures it out at some point but yikes bro has swift, moore, allen,Rome no excuse not to at least have big performances even if your losing its the fact that his career high is 174 yards passing with those weapons
As a fanbase, of course we need to give Caleb more than just a few games before we start panicking. But we are also allowed to wonder what would've happened if we kept Fields too, who seemed to have finally found a good rhythm in the 2nd half of last season with the team going 5-3 (should've been 7-1) over that stretch after just losing 14 games in a row where the defense gave up 31 PPG during that streak. So yeah, I wonder how the team would look with this defense, which Justin didn't have his last 2 seasons with us besides the 2nd half of last season, as well as all of these weapons on offense, already having a good chemistry with Moore and Kmet. If it were any other situation, it would be a lot easier for us, but the Bears went all in on this offense and chose to put it in the hands of a rookie QB. Either way, this next 6-7 games are an easy stretch for us, playing teams like the Commanders/Panthers/Jaguars etc, so it's a perfect time for the offense to finally click. And yes, the O Line needs to play better too, which was also a problem when Justin was here. Shane Waldron has been god awful too, so again, not much use having all of these weapons if you can't utilize them with good play calling. It's just a mess overall, but I feel like things will get better, even though it's a low bar so far. Lol.
I still wish Bears would of keep Justin and drafted marvin Harrison JR and Brock Bowers give him some weapons and more unless say okay here you go here you last final chance to prove something. I always thought Caleb was overrated and overhyped.
The bears should've lost by 20, they’re pretty good and Williams did just fine all told. The Texans, however, are a very good team, bordering Super Bowl worthy, this isn’t groper Cleveland’s Texans.
Yes he doesn’t have an O-line. But dudes also like blind to the pressure. It almost seemed like he would take some stupid hits and then like pout for an extra second after being taken to the ground. Maybe to try to show the Bears coaches and higher-ups that he needs a new/better line. I don’t know. But like some of them seemed so like egregious, like dude get the fuck out of the way lol.
Yeah. Time to panic. Bears should tank the season to draft Manning ASAP!! Jesus. They gave Fields 3 years to prove himself and they cant give Caleb 3 games? Lol
It was way more suprising he was that over hyped. Compared to other QBs that were touted as the next best QB ever he didn't seem that impressive. Add in the fact 2/3 of first round QBs flop this is expected. The media just needs sensational over the top talking points to keep intrest. The truth that this QB class just wasn't that exciting doesn't generate clicks.
Here comes the excuses, some legit but others naw 😂. "Generational talent", best situation a rookie qb could walk into, a better oline than last year. Huh, seems like real Bears fans have been asking to get the oline fixed for years... Blame the media, how Caleb acted and how the bears acted.
Justeb Filliams is a repeat of his predecessor… and it’s a pity. I’d like to see the bears get a good QB at some point in my life. Best one is still…. ugh…. Jay Cutler….
Good because that is what the Bears get for trying to win the Division since the Lions will win the NFC North again because the Lions will be the King of the North again since the Lions are my favorite team and I am a Diehard Lions Fan.
Come on Tom Grassi. The Bears were horrifically bad but Houston was “good”, but only won by six points and we had a chance to win the game at the last minute. GTFO my guy.
