Bryce's biggest issue will always be Stroud being great off the jump. He would have to pass him up to lose that bust tag, but that looks less and less likely.
@jasonjanisewski78

No, the biggest issue is him being terrible and regularly being shut out, rarely throwing TDs. If Stroud stunk, Panthers fans would still want Bryce to be benched and never return.

He wouldn't need to pass him up. Remember the Giants gave up a fortune to trade for Eli and passed on Rivers and Roethlisberger, who both are objectively better QBs. And yet nobody thinks the Giants made a bad trade because Eli was a reliable starter for over a decade and won them two Super Bowls.

He doesn't need to be better than Stroud. He just needs to be better than average. QB is a crap shoot and it's not Bryce's job to justify what Carolina paid to draft him. He just needs to justify a decision to keep playing him.

His biggest issue is that he’s built like a high school sophomore. Has woke culture brainwashed people so much that they can’t even see this shit anymore? There is a difference between short and small, Bryce isn’t just short or small, he’s tiny. He’s tiny for a college D2 player. I guess this isn’t surprising, there are chunks of people who don’t see issues with men beating the shit out of women in combative sports.

I think it’s true yeah that some of these QB’s need to be sat for at least a few games to learn. But also I think it doesn’t help when so many are compared as “oh he’s the next…” I mean look at TLaw and Luck. They’ve both been compared as the next Luck or Manning prospect. And yeah have performed better but I’d argue had just as bad of teams in their first couple of years outside of maybe a couple of good players.

Cam Newton, Luck, CJ, RG3, Russel Wilson, Baker, Dak, Matt Ryan, Herbert, Wentz, etc.... All had productive rookie years while showing big growth throughout their rookie year. That was just off the top of my head. NFL QBs bust all the time. Either you can hang or you can't. 18 games is plenty of evidence to see if you can hang.

I agree with this comment ... Dave C doesn't want to lose the locker room like the guys said but also doesn't want to COMPLETELY ruin Bryce's confidence ... I think during that press conference Dave C was more showing "hey Bryce .. I still support you and got your back" vs "yeah ... he sucked out there" ... For me, the goal of the Panthers should be to find out if they have enough of a team around Bryce Young to properly evaluate him. Putting Andy Dalton in, who we know is a totally mid, but NFL caliber quarterback will allow them to do so. If the team looks functional with Dalton, we know Young was the problem. If they are still a train wreck with the red rifle, then there are too many other issues on that offense to say Young is a bust. So to me it makes perfect sense to put Dalton in there so they can evaluate the rest of the offense.
@richard45359

Let's say in five games (if they do go that long with Bryce as the back-up), and they rattle of three wins and two losses, but the losses are one possession game. What will they do then? Do they keep with Andy until the season ends, or do they put Bryce back in at any point and sit him until next year.

@@richard45359Late in the year give Bryce another shot to gauge progress. If they’re still looking competitive, it’s progress. If he still looks like shit throw Jack Plummer out there for a few drives just to see if he’s maybe worth retaining.

@jayr5277 Against who? There are no teams after the bye week besides maybe Arizona that I would feel comfortable with putting him back in. Cause it's Chiefs, Bucs, Eagles, Cowboys, Cardinals, Bucs, and Falcons. Unless Bryce becomes the next Trey Lance, and we trade him if he's not the answer for even a fraction of what we got to trade up for him. If he is, then put him back in. @jayr5277

@@richard45359 I forgot they actually have a pretty rough second half of the year. I’d probably say either Eagles (I’ll be honest, I’m not sure the Eagles are that good right now. Might not seem as tough by then as they do now considering their D), Cowboys (Sorta same, the D is gonna expose one of the NFC East teams I think), but most likely Cardinals and then ride the stretch unless he looks awful. Thing that makes me more nervous about it though is the last 2 games are road games and I’ve noticed he really, REALLY struggles on the road right now. Maybe it is best to just keep him out this year. Hard to say.
@richard45359
@richard45359 2 дня назад
@jayr5277 Unless you bring him back against the Giants in Germany. Cause that will be a good opportunity to see progress and then it's our bye week afterward. I also feel like the art of QB development, which centers primarily around patience, has been waning for many years. Also, I feel like since around 2017, most new QBs have really struggled far more often than years prior. And I think it has to do with defensive metas finally shifting after the "golden age" of QBs came to a close. After all, DCs could only deal with getting slapped around for so long before figuring something out. But the things developed to help stop HoF QBs is now the meta that newcomers have to go up against. Imo it's no coincidence that this era comes directly after the golden age ends

I think colleges stopped playing defense completely so now QBs aren't NFL ready. Look up game scores on saturdays. You're seeing 60+ point games 3-4 times every weekend. It's crazy. And I'm not talking about Alabama vs St.Josephs community College for the Blind type game they do week 1 of every year. It will be two division 1 schools putting up over 100 points total. Then that QB comes to the league and plays against TJ Watt and gets raped.

-He's historically small as a QB, like one of the shortest QBs in NFL history, and is incredibly light weight wise. You can literally watch him hop to throw passes in the flat to his running backs. -He needs to take deeper drops but lacks the arm strength of guys like Allen or Mahomes to compensate and rip that ball into the necessary windows. -He's skittish in the pocket and his footwork is a mess. When he's not rushing throws or prematurely bailing out of the pocket due to imaginary pressure, he's not setting his feet to actually make throws to his receivers. It's true that the Panthers haven't exactly helped him, but there are plenty of film breakdowns on RU-vid showing that Bryce Young is also just really bad at playing QB.

It isn't Bryce. The Panthers kill QBs. If I were on a team with an aging QB, I would sign him for a mill a year to just sit, decompress, and train. Put him in after a season or two.

I know that Tom wants to be positive, but he’s missing the forest for the trees; Dave Canales was brought in to “fix” Bryce Young, and it’s clear that Canales told the organization that there’s no fixing him. Bryce is short. That can’t be fixed. He’s also slow. That sorta kinda can be fixed but not really. He never should have been drafted in the first round, and certainly not at #2. Organizations have got to stop listening to the morons at ESPN.

The thing is, it *does* actually change things substantially. If Andy plays even half as good as he did last year against Seattle, Bryce will never see the QB1 spot barring injury again. Our playbooks, two years and three coaches in a row now, have been completely closed off, all while these three men with absolutely nothing in common stylistically have said that they only put plays in the playbook that Bryce personally feels comfortable with. Bryce gets an outsized amount of control on said playbook for having shown absolutely no willingness to be creative or stretch the field. He's lost, and we're lost as long as he's playing. If Andy looks just as bad over the next two weeks, then it's a Canales problem and Tepper will be paying 3 different men for the privilege to no longer coach this team. If he looks better, Canales has a job and his pick of QB in 2025 or 2026. If he looks incredible, we'll know the QB whispering stuff only works on people above 6'0".

Also Bryce has played so bad that you can't even evaluate the rest of the team. Is the receiving core just that bad? Or is it the qb. Is the defense that bad or is it gassed from being on the field all the time.

I think he needs to step back and revaluate. I've heard it said that his small size requires him to be able to throw accurately on the run. He can't seem to do that in my uneducated opinion.

The Problem with these "High" pick players is they don't really Face Real Opponets in Collage.. most of the time they play Second Rate schools that have nothing.... they get that EGO high then come into the pros and get crushed... mid pick QB's are better as there isn't alot of pressure. Loook at Baker. he was trash because the team is shit... now look at baker... Panthers are just ran like Garbage..

College Football is so dependent on schemes and play designs these days. A lot of plug and play. Not so much individual coaching. QBs and OLs aren’t coming into the league as developed as they used to be.

If Carolina tries to pick Arch Manning, we WILL see an Eli situation again. There is no chance in hell either he or his family will accept going to that team with how they've done Bryce Young.

Arch will probably just return to Texas at that point. Not as much reason for him to come out right away in the NIL world if he feels it’ll be a bad fit.

Dude was set up to fail. You could put Mahomes or any other QB in that same situation and they’d be just as bad. Teams don’t take time to develop rookie QB’s anymore and it shows on the field. You’re not gonna hit the jackpot with a CJ Stroud every time.
@unc54

The Panthers o-line has allowed the least amount of pressure in the first two weeks. The Panthers primary weapons are Diontae Johnson who is a good WR2 in the league, Adam Thielen who had a 1000 yards last year, and Xavier Legette who was drafted in the 1st round. You also have a decent running game with Chuba Hubbard. Mahomes would win the NFC South with this lineup.

And you have all these super demanding fans who want a Super Bowl win RIGHT NOW, and when you tell them the new QB needs at least some time on the bench and working with coaches in order to adjust to the speed and conditions of the NFL, and they scream at you.

He has a better o line this year than last and he has actually regressed. He's too small and his arm is too weak. That's fine but you have to have good football IQ to compensate. Unfortunately he has failed their too. He's not picking up easy blitz. Hes not even seeing wide open receivers, and unfortunately he doesn't have the elite physical skills to compensate.
@jayr5277

@@unc54It doesn’t necessarily undo the damage the decision of keeping him in last year did though. It caused him to commit bad in-game habits to memory. Will take time to coach out of him. Hopefully the benching helps them do that.
