As you would expect for such a safety-critical task, training for pilots is extremely rigorous; and even more so for professional pilots. Even experienced pilots have to get specific type-ratings to operate a particular aircraft model. We visit FlightSafety International’s Falcon Learning Center in Teterboro, New Jersey (TEB), where simulators help pilots learn how to fly Falcon business jets.

As a professional pilot (40 years experience) and ex-FSI (TUS) instructor/examiner, with over 20,000 flight hours and 7 type ratings I have to say that yes, training is very good BUT there needs to be more "back to basics" training, partial panel work, etc. Planes fly because of Bernoulli and not because of Marconi and that is something that is forgotten these days. It is my humble opinion that the accident rate is very low these days because of excellent systems design and reliability. Not much goes wrong, not much breaks, ATC is excellent, airport facilities excellent, BUT I believe modern pilots rely too much on all of that and not on their superior stick and rudder skills that have deteriorated a lot since the days I was learning to fly.

I’m a FlightSafety Academy graduate. I’ve also received a type rating from a FlightSafety training center. The training is absolutely the highest quality I’ve ever experienced.

@@rtbrtb_dutchy4183 ...yes, since then, I have type ratings in SF340, BA-146, CRJ-200, B747-400, E190 and A320. All have been very good. I would say Flight Safety was still the best I have experienced. Flight Safety was organized, clear, concise and efficient. To be honest, I was at Flight Safety about 24 years ago so I cannot say how they are today. Based on my experience back then, it was really good.

Thank you for watching! FlightSafety can train pilots in all types of models, but some locations focus on specific types. The Teterboro location is all Dassault, likely because of the close proximity to Dassault's US offices, which are also at the airport.
