2:40, Actually a civil war in Australia in the 1930s was almost a reality. In short, Britain declared that we owed them money for all the ammo and food and uniforms our troops used fighting their damn war for them from 1914-18, so something called the "Premiers Plan" was enacted by the federal government that divided up the debt between the states. This coupled with the 1929 stock market crash lead to the Premier of New South Wales Jack Lang just up and refusing to pay. The majority of people were on his side, as were the police who, in the 30s, were pretty much on par with the army. There were plans by the federal government to send in the army to remove Lang, and plans by Lang's supporters to kidnap the Governor of NSW and keep him hostage as leverage, but wanting to avoid bloodshed Jack Lang stood down. It's not impossible that things could've gone different in Crimsons Skies timeline and Jack Lang is head of an independent New South Wales.
London trying to run back the Intolerable Acts for the same reason (pay for a war the colonies fought on their behalf) would be hilarious if it wasn't so absolutely fucked.
Well, if wouldn't be too hard to break up Canada. The western provinces have had grievances with Ottawa over the fact that the east treated them as little more than a colony. If the secessionist movements succeed in the US and Quebec, the Prairie Provinces would secede as well with British Columbia cut off and joining Pacifica.
I hate people calling Canada an extension of the U.S.A. but you explain the possible brake up of confederation in the early 1900's very well. The friench separatist movement would have gained more ground in an unstable North America. Then the prairie provinces would have followed and so on. Mexico would have become the most stable cuntry.
mysticalmonotreme I was once told that if Quebec left Canada majority of its land would go back to the native Americans since the treaty would be voided. Quebec would technically keep a small part along the st.Lawrence. No idea how true that is tho
@@UnimpressedGoose Hey,I have quite a few seoaratists family members living back home in an Acadian Island territory that quebec owns, and I ca guarantee you a lot of separatists want to see land back if they were to secede. They have no use for the lands that are not historically francophone and therefore it is pointless for them to keep.
Good video. I'm a huge fan of Crimson Skies. It's such an interesting alternative universe with great potential for storytelling, and yet there are a relatively few amount of narratives taking place there.
The problem is that the game came out right before FASA shut down so a lot of momentum was lost. Battletech and Shadowrun were already long established games so they are still going strong under their new publisher. And on top of that I know the video game rights are still held by Microsoft but I'm not sure who has the tabletop rights.
You've done what no one else has ever managed to do: Interest me in a video game. I agree the cartography here is excellent, and I'm intrigued by the flawed worldbuilding. Thanks. I think.
You should really find the history of FASA and Crimson Skies video that's out there. It goes into all the better detail of why certain territories formed the way they did. This was a fun little bonus too however.
Most plausible thing is the Confederation of Dixie forming. If the federal government collapsed and America was smaller countries the former CSA would likely form a country as they were previously a country together and tend to have similar state laws to one another.
God I love crimson skies. Everything about its lore fascinates me. Especially in the sense that it it fairly plausible. Not saying definitely could of happened but the World was experiencing political instability at the time. I could definitely see a slightly stronger flu further ferment a states right movement and Balkanize America. It would have been cool if Huey long had an independent Louisiana. Honestly I could see an independent Appalachia why wouldn’t that be accurate? Also speaking as a lifelong Corvallis native I could confidently say that OSU already owns this town 😂 great video!!
Yeah independent Apalachicola isint that much of a stretch considering they did launch the second largest uprising in U.S. History. Maby in this time line the coal miner's managed to beat the coal barons and somehow force the U.S. Army to give up or pull out making Appalachia defacto independent but they didint declear official independence untill after the U.S. Government collapsed. The coal rebellion wasent agienst the government just the coal barons but I could see them becoming a secessionist state if they succeeded if the U.S. collapsed. As for lousiana DEFINTLY they should do more with the state. Consideirng it's a small power that only recently gained it's own independence and is recovering while only having a small military there up agienst Texas witch is a super power compared to them and yet lousiana is still holding there own agienst them then again France is bassicly supporting the lousianain government. Still there's a lot of lore you could do with it.
I get the feeling like the way that timeline was written is supposed to be contradictory because it's written from different people from different points of view throughout the same moment.
Why can't anyone give any justice to the greatest state in the Union... Pennsylvania? It's always absorbed into New York as some Empire State or Virginia as a part of "Dominion". I want Pennsylvania to get shown some respect in an alternate history or science fiction novel...
Blame New Jersey for that, the continuous string of suburbs across the state has absorbed Philadelphia into the economic and political influence of New York City. And tbh Pittsburg isn’t exactly administrative material for an independent nation.
Crimson Skies is actually the second time FASA does balkanized North America. The first time was Shadowrun. There is some similarities as well as some obvious difference in what nations form.
No I don't recall Canada falling apart. They just had some folks break away FROM Canada.Otherwise as far as I recall there's still a mostly unified Canada. I could be mistaken, but I don't think I am.
I always saw the conflicting info on the timeline akin to what warhammer 40k does with it's lore, where some inconsistencies are from altered and conflicting sources in universe. Hence why with every edition the perspective and information is ammended to a more coherent one
@@TheAlternateHistorian well now that the game is being released on the new x box maby thell add some updates to the lore or something or make a book. Who knows.
I just want to say that almost every other map shows New England, or even the entire Northeast together. This one is more realistic in that Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and I would add much of upstate New York; particularly it's northeast) would be separate.
Here's one balkenized theory, the four corners(Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Arizona) plus Wyoming break from the U.S. and Sonora, Chiuawa, and the rest of northern Mexico breaks from Mexico and forms their own nation. New England and the Maritime Provinces break away and becomes Maritime Nova Grand Britainia. New York breaks away and splits into NYC and the boroughs, Long Island, northern N.Y. becomes New Netherlands, and western N.Y. becomes Iraqouis Confederation. And so on and so through out North America from the Yukon to Panama plus South America.
Well maybe if micro shaft didn't run the IP out of existance, they would.... The creator would love to do another game and he's been mentioning it a LOT. With the second game being able to be played again on current gen xbox, because it h as almost nothing else I give a #$@% about, others included, the shining star that is the second Crimson Skies game has gotten people talking again.
