Why is there so much support for the Empire in the real world? I mean, the Rebellion is clearly the good guys. But how many people call them Rebel scum? The Empire is just... cooler.

Grammar Police Did they though, for real? I don't think they did. I think there was a lot more gray shown on both sides in the movies, that a lot of people overlook. Just like in the Clone Wars, both sides, Republic and CIS, had Good and evil, neither side was truly in the right. Most people automatically assume the CIS, but that isn't always the case.

No, the Rebels did not fight the Empire directly, because they knew that the Empire was totally superior to them in almost everything. Therefore, they tried not to face the forces of the Empire directly, but only hid and raided their forces, or attacked in the event of a five-fold superiority in forces. And in this case, they were supported by many Senators, and Senators are influential people in the Empire or in the Republic

Fun fact, the Empires Military was being built up with all these numbers and super weapons because the emperor knew that the outergalaxy Yuuhzon Vong were on their way with a mega invasion fleet. Had the Rebels not fought against the Empire 365 Trillion lives might have been saved because the Empire would have completely destroyed the Vong invasion force right off the bat.

+Jon Baxter Well the droid armies had quite a few drawbacks, including that they could be hacked/reprogrammed, required a control ship to work properly which is a huge weak point (entire army fails if control spot is taken out or jammed somehow)... Droids were also be quite stupid, mostly unable to improvise in situations where it was required. To give them enough intelligence to do so would be extremely expensive (and giving it to the droid officers only would make them weak points that could easily be taken out). Hiring Stormtroopers from the population instead of using clones/robots probably also made it easier to bind planets to the Empire through loyalty rather than mainly fear... those who enjoyed the law and order provided by the Empire (especially on planets once ruled by crime lords and such) would gladly sign up to help protect their homes and families + earn some money meanwhile. According to one book which is no longer canon (but can provide some insight in the matter still), the initial stages of the Clone Wars saw 20 destroyed droids per 1 killed clone, rising to 50 as earlier droid armor alloys started running out after the facilities supplying it to the CIS was destroyed, forcing them to rely on weaker armor alloys... Even if the droid-to-clone death ratio is lower in the new canon (which we don't know), I assume it'd be cheaper to recruit young men, train them and provide weapons and armor than continuously building gigantic amounts of droids.

As a Star wars nerd i cant not do an analysis on this. So here is my take. Now this is just my personal opinion, what i personally think. You might agree or disagree, there is no right or wrong side in this argument, just opinions. Here is my take on why the Empire is better then the Republic. So with that out of the way here it is. The Galactic Republic is a *sarcastic quotation marks* democracy. Why am I saying that? Well the galactic republic is more of an oligarchy. The rule is divided between several people but those people are not chosen because they wish the best for the people, they are in the senate because they are the richest people and the best liars. The senate on an overarching level was incredibly corrupt. If you wanted to get something done, then just throw out some money and you will have the support of almost the entire senate. It is also extremely inefficient in the sense that it does give a lot of power to people who have no experience with it. The Chancellor has supreme command of the army, which makes no sense considering the chancellor is a politician, not a general. The same thing applies to economics and internal politics, the leaders are not chosen based on their merit, and they are chosen based on how many supporters they have bribed to their side. This has led to a lot of Republic defeats. Whilst the Empire transfers command to the person they deem strongest, the Republic transfer command to popular leaders. But being loved by the people does not equal being a brilliant commander. Which has been proven by men like Darth Marr. He is cold, analytical and logical. He has the charisma of a desert. No one likes him, but he is basically ruling the Empire in the Emperors absence, why? Because he can look past the petty squabbles of the Dark Council and instead make decisions based on rational thinking. This is what separates the Republic and the Empire the most. The Republic is a “democracy” and thus the leaders of it are chosen by the people. It sounds great in theory, but people usually vote for whoever talks best. Not who is the best leader. This results in that most senators are just good liars, good manipulators and foremost very very rich. The Empire bases its commanders and leaders on strength. Prime example being Darth Nox of the Dark Council. Darth Nox was a slave his/hers entire life, it was discovered that Nox was a force sensitive and he/she was sent to Korriban for training. Nox rose through the sith order as one of the most powerful force users alive, even eclipsing Emperor Vitiate in some abilities. And before long the former slave sat on the Dark Council. Ruling the Empire. The sith are incredibly discriminatory to aliens, seeing them as second class citizens. Notice the “second” part of “second class” Aliens were often discriminated, but it was not impossible for them to reach high ranking positions. Prime examples being Grand Admiral Thrawn or General Bentilais san Sk'ar. The Empire was also famously sexist, although not the same degree as their race discrimination. Especially after the death of Palpatine the Empire became very open minded. Regional recruitments resulted in many female and alien soldiers. If the battalion was positioned on an alien planet, most recruits would be alien, and that was fine. Quite a lot of females actually reached very high ranking positions in the Empire. Examples being Admiral Daala of the Imperial Navy, Admiral Betl Oxtroe, Intelligence Director Ysanne Isard, Captain Uwlla Iillor, and the ace Pilot Juno Eclipse. Another example of a high ranking female is the Dark Lady of the sith, Shira Elan Colla Brie, or as she’s more popularly known as, Lumiya. There was also hundreds of females in the Stormtrooper corps, especially after Palpatines death. Such Jes Gistang or Isila Drutch. Palpatine was also fairly liberal when it came to aliens, comparative to other sith of course. He freely conversed with people like Mas Amedda with no problem. So aliens were discriminated, but not discriminated discriminated. It was still possible for aliens to reach high ranks in the Empire and it was even more possible for females. Of course, the Empire was still discriminatory, but it’s worth noting that it wasn’t impossible to become very powerful in spite of your race. But on an overarching level the Empire was very pro-human. But it should be noted that this is a feature of the Republic too. Darth Plagueis, a muun, very famously said to his apprentice, Sidious this. "It must be you. You have the political skills, and more to the point, you are a human. In this era only a human is capable of rising to the top of Coruscant's biased political heap." So both the Empire and the Republic are biased towards humans and human males specifically. The difference is that the Empire values strength, the Republic values if you’re a good liar. In the Republic a group of corrupt, racist, egocentric people rule and they have the entire jedi order blindly following them. The sith order does whatever they want, the Empire can’t order them. If the Empire told the Dark Council to commit genocide they would probably reply “Meh… no” The Empire is the preferable choice because they value strength over everything. No matter if you’re an alien or a slave, if you’re powerful enough you will reach the top of the ladder. Darth Nox and the Emperor’s second wrath is the proof of that. The Republic is much more about lies and corruption. Look at Palpatine, it was incredibly easy for him to become the most powerful man in the Republic and transform it into the Empire. He just needed to lie and bribe. The Republic is such fragile and ineffective system that it’s a miracle that only one person has managed to destroy it from within, considering how easy it is to do. In conclusion, the sith sell an ugly truth, the Jedi sell a fancy lie. There will never be peace, there will always be people who hate each other and despise each other. It’s better to just embrace that as a fact and stop trying to create peace. Peace is a utopia, it is fantastic but it will never exist because in order for it to exist everyone in the galaxy need to be a teaspoon of hugs and teddy bears, which they’re not. The Jedi don’t live in reality, they live in their own little bubble where they claim that everyone loves each other and that there is no emotions. They don’t live in reality, reality is harsh. Reality is filled with hatred and war, the sith fully accept this. The Jedi ignorantly denies it. The war between the Empire and the Republic is not a war between good and evil. It is a war between people, and to quote George RR Martin “All people are capable of great good and great evil” There is no good guy nor a bad guy. They are people and we all need to make a decision on who we think is the shiner turd. In my case that is the Empire, the Empire values strength over everything and I can understand that and I can value that over the lies of the senate. But you might think differently and that’s fine, there is no right and wrong side in this argument. Just people. Oh, and there is one more thing i should add. The nail in the coffin for the entire debate. The foundry. In 3642 BBY the Jedi Knight Revan found an ancient Rakata factory beneath an asteroid. The Factory was intact and was still capable of creating a droid army. The droids that it could construct were extremely powerful, and only the most powerful warriors even had the slightest chance to kill them. In a few weeks this factory could build an army that would destroy the Empire. Now understandably, the Empire weren't big fans of that possibility. So they assembled a small strike team to land on the asteroid and deactivate the factory before it could produce its payload of death. The strike team fought its way through the enormous factory and eventually walked into a dark chamber. In the middle of it stood a droid. HK-47 was Revans most faithful ally and a incredibly powerful assassination droid. The strike team asked it what Revan was doing and the droid gave them all the information, on the false assumption that he would then kill them. He told them that the droids had been equipped with bioscanners, they could detect sith genetic material and would kill on sight. Now i'm not talking about the sith order. I'm talking about the sith race, who were mostly civilians in the Empire. Not only were the republic planning on eradicating an entire race, but they would kill anyone that was even related to a sith pureblood. Your great great great great great great grandfather could have had a brother who was married to someone who had a father that had a sister that was married to a sith pureblood and you would get killed. If you somehow missed it, ill spell it out. That's genocide. This genocidal act would eradicate 97.8% of the Imperial civilian population, note the CIVILIAN part of that. Those were just regular people trying to make a living, they were fathers and sons, husbands and friends. They were innocent people that were just trying to make a living. And they were targeted by the Republic. Not only is that genocide, but it is the worst warcrime committed in the history of the Star Wars galaxy. Now luckily the Imperial strike team defeated HK-47 and Revan and deactivated the factory. But if the Empire hadn't stopped them, the Republic would had committed genocide on a massive scale. Lets take things into perspective, the worst genocide in human history was the holocaust. In it 11 million innocents were murdered based on their race and sexuality. One million of those were children. It is one of the most tragic events in the human history, if not the most tragic. Now lets compare it to this. HK never says the number of Imperials that would die but we can calculate it. As mentioned in the video, there lived 100 quadrillion people in the Empire. That is alot of people. So easy math here 97.8% of 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (100 quadrillion) That's 97,800,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 people. I repeat 97,800,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 people would me murdered because of their genetics by the Republic. 97.8 quadrillion people. That is horrible. To take things in perspective that is more then eighthundredthousand billion holocausts. You heard that right, you would need to do the holocaust more then 800,000,000,000,000 times in order for it to even be close the Republics attempted genocide. Or here's another thing. In the history of mankind there has existed 107,602,707,791 human beings. 107 billion is alot of people. That is every single homo sapiens that has ever existed, that is the entire human civilization. Thats all of us. So lets math again, 97800000000000000000000000/107,602,707,791 = 908899060328110 The Republic tried to commit a genocide that would had killed more people then have ever existed on earth. In order to compare the attempted genocide of the republic, you would need to kill every human that has ever existed more then 900 billion times. There is no comparison. The sith have done evil things, but the Republic tried to commit genocide on such a gigantic level. There is just no argument really. The Republic are not good guys. They are genocidal maniacs. The Rebels do break some rules of war too as a matter of fact. More specifically article 46 and 26 of the Hague Convention. Article 26 states that it is illegal for an invading force to attack a target with civilians without warning. The officer of the invading force must take all actions possible to warn the civilians of the target and the authorities to minimize civilian casualties. Which is something the Rebels didn't do with the death star. Article 46 states that a military occupying a foreign country (The rebels occupying the Empire) must respect the religion of its inhabitants and their personal freedoms. The invading force must also, unless in extreme circumstances, respect the traditional laws of the country. The Rebels fail this miserably. They have no problem attacking a person solely because they are sith. If you somehow missed it, the sith and jedi order are both fanatically religious orders. Going to war against the Empire and refusing to accept Palpatines peace offer on the basis of his religion is bad enough. But having no problem killing a person solely because they're sith, that is illegal. Most famous example of this is in Episode 3, where Mace Windu and 3 more Jedi masters try to murder Palpatine when they find out he is a sith. Not only is that a violation of the Hague convention, but it is a direct violation of Republic law too. To make this even worse, article 33 of the 4th Geneva convention regarding protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War states that an individual person can not be punished for actions they have not personally committed. So attacking Palpatine on the basis that he is a sith violates not one, but two laws of war.

+eckabacken9 Great point. In the old EU they eventually had the Empire come back to power a century later due to the incompetence of the New Republic and the Vong invasion. The big difference was that the new Empire ruled through a combination of respect and fear, light and dark, not just fear and dark. That and a newer dynasty. Therefore, it was more stable and pragmatic.
@wilhufftarkin8543
@wilhufftarkin8543 8 лет назад
+eckabacken9 I agree completely about the Empire being better than the Republic, however I don't agree with your opinion about the Jedi and Sith. How can I say that if the Empire is ruled by Sith? Well, it's important to note that the Galactic Empire and Vitiate's Sith Empire, you were referring to, are NOT the same thing. Officially, the Galactic Empire was the successor of the Republic. The Republic's culture and traditions were the foundation of the Galactic Empire's culture and tradition. This can be seen everywhere in the Empire. In its ships, its uniforms and even in its philosophy - Mainly its emphasis on "human high culture", which is deeply rooted in the Republic's origin in the core worlds (Coruscant, Corellia, Chandrila, etc.). Furthermore, the Galactic Empire wasn't officially a Sith state. It wasn't even known to the public that Palpatine and Vader were Sith. Just like the Republic, the Empire was officially a secular state. While the Sith Empire had also a speciesist agenda, it had a different origin, as did the whole culture of that empire. As we all know, the first Sith were human Dark Jedi that interbred with the original Sith species on Korriban. Around 3600 BBY, the time of Vitiate's empire, only a few of these original Sith "purebloods" were left and were propagated to be superior to any other race. Humans were considered the second best race because they were the ones who taught the Sith species how to use the Force. Furthermore, the Sith Empire's whole culture was a mix between the Sith species' and the first Sith Empire's culture. They even have an own language and writing system. The "home" of the Sith Empire were the ancient Sith worlds like Korriban, Ziost, Dromund Kaas, etc. In short, we have two different cultures: Core Worlds human culture vs. Sith Worlds Sith/human hybrid culture. Now to the Jedi. You say: "The Jedi don’t live in reality, they live in their own little bubble where they claim that everyone loves each other and that there is no emotions. They don’t live in reality, reality is harsh." Well, this is true for the last 1000 years of the Old Jedi Order. After the New Sith Wars were over, the Ruusan Reformation was created, which basically castrated the Jedi and made them puppets of the senate. The reason for this is because many people saw the Jedi as war mongers and were afraid they wouldn't stop to fight wars agains their enemies. Before the Ruusan Reformation Jedi were more like Lord Hoth than Yoda, they would go out and fight evil, not hide in the temple and think over it or - like in the clone wars - use a slave army to fight for the interests of some wealthy lobbyists. The problem was, that after the reformation, the Jedi didn't ultimately follow their own moral code, but the interests of the senate. This is also one of the reasons why many people supported Palpatine's anti-Jedi-sentiment. However, in the end, I prefer the Jedi over the Sith. They posses such a great power that they could enslave the Republic, but instead, they chose to serve the people. The Sith however, do the complete opposite. I would never want to be an ordinary citizen of the Sith Empire. I think the best state would be an Empire like Palpatine's, but with a Jedi as the head of state. Then, the Jedi wouldn't have to submit to a corrupt senate but only to their moral code and life would be much better for the citizens.

Overdependence on one or two central figures was both a strength and a weakness. Palpatine was the strongest Dark Side user of all time. Vader was not far behind. Palpatine had prepared no successors and consolidated too much power in his own hands, so when he was destroyed and Vader turned at the same time, the Empire lost its unifying strengths.

Dogs have teeth, claws, and have muscles in the right place to remain agile, being quadrupedal. Dogs also don't batter you to death, they knock you over with a full body bash, relying mainly on their acceleration to generate force, not mass. Such a blow would not do more than bruise a person and knock them off their feet. The Ewoks are shown to be slow, cumbersome and their limbs are not the right dimensions to amount any sort of force. Their spears and sticks shouldn't even penetrate polycarbonate, never mind space armour. The Ewoks beat the Empire because plot.

@selderane 8 лет назад
+TheGXDivider Why, exactly? The entire exercise was a folly of hubris on the part of the Emperor, which was kind of the point. Even after losing the first Death Star he still didn't take the threat of the Rebellion seriously, or "lesser" species (see: Ewoks).
@FieserMoep
@FieserMoep 8 лет назад
+Kevin Dombrowski He did not have to take lesser species like the Ewoks serious because they were inferior in all terms possible. Yet the plot demanded for the Empire to loose and so wood logs were suddenly able to utterly destroy walkers made from some sort of super steel. (Forgot the name) Also basic physiology made the Ewoks incapable to overpower storm troopers. Their arms and legs were simply to short to deliver any force in melee capable of overwhelming something of the size of a human. But to make this even more funny: The ewoks were not supposed to be there in initial story drafts but another warrior-like species like the Wookies. Ewoks were literal pandering to young audiences to create merchandise. And that is the problem of Star Wars, it sacrificed the integrity of its universe to suit poorly written story devices and a cash-in strategy. Return of the Jedi did not take its own source material serious and so I cant take Star Wars serious.

Kevin Dombrowski So you excuse bad writing, plot holes and logic errors with being a fairy tale? That does not make sense at all. A fairy tale is fiction, and fiction establishes a setting. If the fictions does not keep the rules of its own setting that is an error. If you describe red riding hood as a small girl with the physical abilities of a small girl and she suddenly uses a pile driver on the big bad wolf as a cheap cop out for the climax of the story that would not be very entertaining to me for it does not make any sense in the story. If you establish a fact in a story, you stick to it, the circumstance that fairies or wizards happen to be in that story does not change that. That is what separates good quality literate from trash and you will find that in all of the classical fairy tales. In fact this is due to their objective to tell a moral message. That would simply not work in over abstract story that has no boundaries at all. So if you talk abut fairy tales I'd like you to actually understand the narrative of these.

+Jifftastic Ghozt That is sad. And spot on. The writing was realy bad. It did not take its source material serious in any way. It made the Empire sooo strong that it failed to present any reasonable way in which the rebels could have won. So they took Ewoks because they were just as bad as anything else they could have come up with - yet they made good merchandice for children.

Something makes no sense. You say that The Empire's army consisted of tens of trillions of soldiers. You obviously would have to get that info from somewhere. What I don't get is that Shadows of the Empire stated that the Rebel Alliance was outnumbered by the Galactic Empire ten thousand to one. Meaning that if the imperial army had ten trillion troops, then the Rebel Alliance Army would have over a billion troops. If that were the case, why did they have so much trouble defending their bases and why wasn't their fleet an armada?
@Warsie
@Warsie 8 лет назад
+Niru-Kun in the outer rim, I believe it was more of a 10 to 1 level of outnumbering, and that's from either the Rebel Alliance Sourcebook or a old WEG source. Also, factor in the difference between the "rebel alliance" and separatist holdouts as well as local resistance which didnt join the rebel alliance or only were "associates" but joined the New Republic formed after Endor. The "core" rebel forces were small, the fleet at Endor was mainly donated from other resistance groups.
@Myrkul500
@Myrkul500 8 лет назад
+Niru-Kun Those figures could still very well be accurate, the "tens of trillions of troops" is referring to ALL troop types, even if we agree that the greatest majority was going into the forces as foot soldiers (and ignoring all manner of support personnel) you have to remember that those forces were controlled by the regional commanders (so many of them would have been held back from the front lines) and the logistics of moving that many troops at the same time to the same place? That would be a nightmare even for the Empire during its golden years. The numbers Fact Free (?I think?) are referring to are believable constant figures for the data available, and the ratio(s) of the Alliance being outnumbered would be more in line with "at any time / place" against system defence forces.
@skywrithahnhana8954
@skywrithahnhana8954 8 лет назад
+Niru-Kun In addition to the two other replies, you also have to consider that the Rebel Alliance is effectively an insurgent fighting force. An insurgent's goal isn't to crush the enemy in head to head combat, but rather make it unable to obtain the services and materiel it requires to maintain itself. I don't need to kill every storm trooper to win, if the storm troopers don't have the fuel, food and ammunition to conduct patrols to catch me. The more times I disrupt their resupply, the less able they are to control the area around them. I'm not concerned with controlling an area, just so long as the imperials can't either. As they weaken, my ability to fight them grows. Once the strength of my enemy equals or is less than my own I can fight them conventionally, at which point I become the one who must maintain control over the area. This happens after the battle of Yavin when the empire and the rebellion are on fairly equal terms. The New Republic era is the time in which the rebellion fights and controls territory while before it only served to drag the empire down. We can actually see this in Afghanistan. NATO and Afghan forces patrol to restrict Taliban's ability to conduct attacks on the Afghan government. In that case the Taliban couldn't overcome the US's ability to resupply our bases and our Afghan allies. However now that Afghanistan doesn't have nearly as much support to fight the Taliban, the Taliban are moving toward more conventional warfare tactics because they are now capable of controlling areas.
@jasoncrowell8863
@jasoncrowell8863 8 лет назад
+Niru-Kun We don't see the numbers present in any one location. But the empire covered much of the galaxy, and therefore their trillions of troops were dispersed, consequently, the rebellion was also dispersed. Even more so in the rebel case, since they were effectively JUST an insurgent force until Episode IV, and could barely face them as an actual navy in Episode VI, and only became a fully formed nation-state capable of taking and defending territory during the New Republic era.

There was a theory that Palpatine built the Death Stars and enforced fear into the galaxy to prepare it for the Yuuzhan Vong. The reason for the Death Stars was that the Y. V. had ships the size of entire planets. Even worse all the Y. V. tech were actually living creatures including guns and armor. This had a huge strategic effect as ships healed themselves after battle. The Death Stars were designed to be able to destroy the Y. V. before they could do anything. Palpatine enforced strict rulings in order to prevent spies to gather info and to further help the galaxy get ready for the most fearsome empire to ever live. The end result was the Galactic Empires fall and the New Republic to form. Several years later, battered and ill-capable to fight from hunting down the Imperial Remnant, the Y. V. used this as their advantage and invaded. They managed to conquer a vast amount of space, including Coruscant, and destroyed a large amount of the New Republics forces. After some time I think even Admiral Ackbar was killed (not sure on that) and many other well-known heroes too. In the end the remains of the New Republic managed to defeat the Y. V., but the galaxy was far too broken from the war. Soon after the Galactic Federation was built to replace the New Republic. Fun note: There is an interesting theory that states that Disney bought STAR WARS for that reason because Buzz (from Toy Story) lived in a galaxy that had a great war that destroyed the government in charge and the Galactic Federation was born after that.

6:23 the admirals choked to death were done so because they were ass inompetent and corrupt and got into position due to neptoism and whatnot. Note Vader has no problem with Piett, Veers, etc - because Vader knows they're not corrupt and shit. Needa was connected to Ozzel's clique i.e. why Needa was choked dead in TESB 6:46 in the early years of the Empire, due to the Imperial Senate still keeping a chokehold on the spending, the Empire had to either chose between continuing to build incom fighters like the ARC-170 and Z-95 and the new X-wing, or switch to TIEs. TIEs were cheaper, and the Imperial Navy preffered more Star Destroyers than shielded and hyperspace capable craft.....because there was basically no threat to the Empire, and the Imperial Navy would be a garrison force - not a rapid reaction force needed that the Republic Navy was in the later stages of the Clone Wars. So more ships it would be, to patrol the outer rim systems and whatnot which were still full of separatist holdouts and pirates which got pieces of their navy and were a real threat. 8:14 the outer rim never accepted the Imperial Presence, (separatist holdouts and rebels abound there!) while the Core Worlds were in general loyal to the bone inheriting the control of the government from the Republic 8:20 8:25 rebel propaganda, Vader wasnt that dickish. and the Empire spent lots of money on their military. 8:27 rebel propaganda, the Empire emphasized how it was better than the assbackward republic and how it protected the core worlds of human civilization from anarchy and non-humans wrecking the place like they did in the Clone Wars.

+Myrkul500 The universe is Big, realy Big. Those small hyperspace capable crafts can make up a lot more squadrons and cover a lot more space with deep space patrols so they are rapid reaction forces to small threats. Yet a star destroyer, though fast on its own, cant cover as much space and hence inherently has a longer respond time unless something is happening really close to it. Also these Destroyers made perfect garrisons for keeping planets etc. in check. There was not much that threatened them in Orbit and they were pretty much immune to any infiltration from on-planet resistance.

+risker34 In the now non-canon EU, the Stormtroopers were the personal troops of the Imperial Elite, such as Grand Moffs and Darth Vader. They were a purely infantry force, Palpatine being smart enough to keep his elites from both having a force to challenge him and a way to transport it. The Stormtrooper Corps were the elite of the Imperial Army, chosen for their physical prowess, tactical acumen, and loyalty to the New Order. Intriguingly, although it appears that they cannot hit the broad side of a barn in the movies, in the EU they were noted for their pinpoint marksmanship.

@drizzt7dourden7

+2SSSR2 well that actually depends on what kind of conflict it would be. the IoM has (basicly) unlimited footsoldiers and a large amount of "special troops (astartes, psykers, etc) but a very limited supply of everything else. (building ships takes decades and they have next to no "superweapons") the GE on the other hand has large amounts of troops, a very small cast of super warriors. their fleet was gigantic and able to be rebuild relativly quickly and they have a multitude of superweapons. so in a war between the 2 the IoM would winn allmost every fight but due to its inabilety to replenish importent equipment quickly it would slowly lose the war. especially if the GE were to start destroying their capital ship jards (witch they can do easyest with the hyperspace canon or one of the eclypse super capitals) also a large battle in deathstar controlled space would result in heavy losses if not defeat for the IoM.
@mosteel8
@mosteel8 8 лет назад
This was actually a HUGE debate at my work. Well, it was more of an extension of the Star Wars Galactic Empire (Empire) Vs the Star Trek United Federation of Planets, but after the research on fleet size and functions alone made the Federations chances less than laughable the Imperium of Man (Imperium) was brought up as a possibly more suitable opponent. It turned out to be a lot closer than you'd think. If anyone is actually interested in the numbers I could try and find the data again (was a while ago) but summary was basically what follows.Force users easily beat psykers primarily due to the time, fatigue, and risks of using the warp vs the relative ease in which the force is used in combat. They also just barely beat a Space Marine 1v1, but unlike most imperial force users Space Marines don't normally fight 1v1. Space Marines can be replenished slightly faster than force users, since force users have to be found, but it's also important to remember every lost gene seed is a permanent loss of Space Marines in total. This makes space battles, the Empires normal bread and butter, extremely dangerous for Imperium Space Marines since the loss of one ship could be the permanent loss of 100s of Marines. The ships of the Imperium easily out classed all none specialized ships of the Empire. The Empire shields are designed for barrage more than the devastating attack of Imperium Lance Cannons. However, the numbers game is now vastly against the Imperium. While I don't remember the exact number, even if the Imperium pulled their entire fleet away from The Eye of Terror, each Imperium ship would have to singlehandedly destroy 100s of the Empire's ships to make up the fleet size difference. Once you start bringing in imperial specialty ships/weapons and hyperspace travel vs travel through the warp, and the vulnerability of Void Shields to barrage (the Empire's primary space combat tactic) the lance cannons start to make up less of a difference. The final decider came from, as drizzt7dourden7 mentioned, the ability to replenish. This is in no way all inclusive and left out a lot of the Imperium's winning categories, such as their absolute domination of planetary warfare over the Empire, ultimately the Empire is just bigger, overwhelmingly bigger, with more resources, a better economy, and still has the direct leadership of their actual Emperor. The war of attrition against them could simply not be won. It is important to know, before you start countering with it, that for better and more fair versus analysis internal threats such as the Rebels were taken out of the equation. This actually benefited the Imperium more though, I mean Chaos, Eldar, Necrons, and Tyranids, the Imperium has a lot to contend with. This is also why the Imperium could pull it's fleet from The Eye of Terror for the fight. All that said though, the ultimate nail in the Imperium's coffin comes from Warhammer, the Heresy. I am not as versed in the Pre Heresy Imperium as my friend was, but it sounds like the production was on par with the Empire, the technologies were still working fully as intended, and even Space Marines could be near mass produced since gene seed production was still happening. We concluded that victory goes to the Galactic Empire in 40K, but a Pre Heresy Imperium of Man would wreck the GE.
@2SSSR2

@2SSSR2
@2SSSR2 8 лет назад
My counterpoint is God Emperor-s God Powers that he can use against his enemies ( like creating warp storms that consume entire star systems ). Nevermind the larger armed bodies ( less Astartes but much, much more Guardsmen ) as well as more advanced technologies ( contrary to the popular belief IoM post-heresy has some advanced technologies + updated versions of Heresy ones ) and bigger fleets ( larger territory after all ). It is stated numerous times in 40k lore that 1 on 1 IoM could destroy everyone - even foes such Tyrandis, Necrons and Chaos. And I doubt that GE could beat these foes in 1 on 1 battle.

I think the Empire was a fine government in my opinion. They only want order to be brought into the galaxy, and Vader even says, "Join me, and I will complete your training. With our combined strength, we can end this destructive conflict and bring order to the galaxy." Besides, they never harm anyone that's not a terrorist, even Alderaan, a "peaceful" planet, was destroyed only because it was one of the most important stations for the rebellion, harboring important figures and rebel forces. Plus the rebellion didn't even have many troops, making it seem like they never had much support. There's rebellions today that have more support and troops than them, suggesting that many were happy with how the Empire operated. Their worst acts were against terrorists (rebels), not harming anyone else. They also brought economy and employment benefits. And it's not as if the Jedi are innocent in all of this as well. Jedi were part of some of the largest conflicts to hit, including the Clone Wars (a Jedi ordered a massive force of Clones) and the Jedi Civil War. The Empire drove technology forward, ushering in new technological advances.

Its too bad the old lore didn't stick. Mainly because of the Prequels. Before, it was know in the EU that the Empire had been around for a good century and some change. Pretty much along the same lines of Rome. Where there was still elements of the Old Republic in the form of the Senate, but was overseen by the Emperor and he had the final say in all matters. But then of course the Senate was disbanded in Episode 4 and that's when the Governors and Moffs took over for their regions and ruled that way. The Emperor looked the way he did because he was just that old and warped by the dark side. The Clone Wars were originally fought by the Empire against the Clones. The Spaarti raised a clone army to take sectors from the Empire. (Think Rome fighting with Carthage). The Jedi at this time were an ancient religion and not many left due to the continuous wars with the Mandalorians over the centuries. They pretty much wiped each other out. The Jedi also fought for the Empire against the Spaarti clones. Then were turned on by the end of the war and the few remaining were hunted down. The Emperor tried to erase them from history. I don't know if there was an official reason for it. Maybe tried to stage a coup themselves? So after the war, all cloning was outlawed. Granted, this lore hasn't been around since Episode 1 came out, maybe a little earlier, and a bunch of new things had to be made up and overwritten to help fill in the plot holes. I just like this version on things better, because it seems much more plausible than something that was supposed to be as powerful as it was, fall into disarray only after 20 years by a band of ill equipped rebels that were always on the run had a couple of lucky shots.

barbiquearea That might of been a theory after Episode IV first came out, but most EU in place had him along the lines of Julius or Octavius Caesar.. I kind of always seen the Emperor as a combination of the 2. Julius for the takeover, and Octavius for the start of the Empire

What if the Rebel Alliance had the active participation of Jedi leaders such as Obi-wan Kenobi, Yoda (these two without going into exile), Mace Windu, Ki Adi Mundi, Plo Koon, Kit Fisto and a few members of the jedi order? If we asume the Alliance wins without the help of the Jedi, I still want to know you opinions about how it would have influenced the presence of these powerful Jedi... and I mean influence by them acting like the generals of the Clone Wars, I'm not talking about passive Jedi that went into exile like actually happened with obi and yoda. So what do you think? they would have died prematurely? or would they have brought victory in a few years and more easily? I personally think the Alliance would have been more organized early.
@TheLoreMasterYT
@TheLoreMasterYT 9 лет назад
Francisco Arcos It's interesting, since at first most people viewed the Jedi as the ones who started the Clone Wars, which caused them all the problems. Unless a regular person met a Jedi, they most likely knew very little about them. For the first few years, the Rebel Alliance including Jedi would actually hurt their public support, as most people had a negative view on the Jedi, but in the later years most of the public would be indifferent or would have a positive view on the Jedi. If the Rebel Alliance did have many of the Jedi Masters, specially those from the Jedi Council, then the Rebel Alliance would have formed quicker and would have started the Galactic Civil War earlier. These Jedi had a ton of experience leading and fighting, as they were in the clone wars, one of the largest wars in history. And Jedi like Mace Windu and Yoda have shown to have immense amount of power when fighting in large battles, being able to take on entire armies by themselves with ease, so they would have helped a lot. The Rebel Alliance would have been organized earlier, and would have won quicker, since they would have been able to strike high profile places and take on the Empire head on due to them being led by very powerful Jedi.

The rebellion would've been destroyed earlier actually. The empire didn't take the rebellion seriously until it had become a large threat. If they knew that it was led by jedi, they would've focused all their resources on wiping the rebellion out. They would've destroyed the rebellion before it ever was able to get enough recruits to survive a full scale attack.
@MsGareth007
@MsGareth007 8 лет назад
+Francisco Arcos There was the Jedi master Rahm Kota leading the rebels to victory.
@infoluminux
@infoluminux 8 лет назад
MsGareth007 yeah, but Kota wasn't as powerfull as Windu PLUS Yoda PLUS Obi.wan, etc. My intention was to say that all those Jedi were leaders at the same time and fights. When we see the Clone Wars (CGI) and we see Windu, Yoda and Obi.wan on the same mission, those 3 are just enough to make crumble the separatists armies.

+Red Stormtroopers were never really that bad. They did not only kick ass on the Tantive IV, but they also gave the Rebel Commandos on Endor a lot of trouble. You can see several commandos laying dead around the bunker. It should also be noted that most fighters in Star Wars are easily destroyed. Tie Fighters could often destroy X-wings with a single salvo from their lasers.
@Gunnar001
@Gunnar001 8 лет назад
+onlypeaceindeath Stormtroopers kicked ass on the Tantive IV?? Bullshit. All they did was blindly swarm through a single entrance and spray endless random blaster fire down a tight hallway until the the outnumbered Rebel defenders were eventually shot dead or retreated deeper into the ship. The troopers did nothing impressive in that battle.
@onlypeaceindeath
@onlypeaceindeath 8 лет назад
billyboyjennings Yeah, they kicked ass. They killed a dozen guards in seconds despite the fact that the guards only had to defend one choke point. And they only lost two in that fight. In the entire battle for the Tantive IV, only three or four Stormtroopers died on screen. They had a kill ratio of 3:1 or 4:1.

Fair enough. But A) every planet doesn't need constant guard. B) You'd think with the elimination of the rebels even a measly 10K ships would be able to be amassed to help with this. Especially as they blew up the last death star. With hyperspace it be a short hop at best. C) The senate/imperial senate obviously cannot hold millions to dozens of millions of reps. Don't take this as mean being a jerk, just stuff that came to my head.

+Mighty Nag You're talking like what happens in the movies make sense. You are 112361235% correct, of course but what did you expect? Lucasarts have a gigantic boner for Star wars Al-Qaeda. So of course they're going to win. There could be 2 rebels against a googolplex imperial soldiers and the rebels would still win.
@mnaglich
@mnaglich 8 лет назад
Well of course star wars is written very poorly in that regard. Same reason why in battletech the clans lose. Lazy writing. But if you use on screen references and timothy zhans(sp?) book as reference then the imperial fleet is like 20K ships max. And millions of troops, probably.
@Erikaaaaaaaaaaaaa
@Erikaaaaaaaaaaaaa 8 лет назад
Mighty Nag Oh yes. If we were to create an alternate star wars universe where it wasn't stupidly one sided then the rebellion would end in the first 10 minutes of episode 4. The Imperial army was realistically speaking, excellent. It was superb at combined arms strikes, it had top notch discipline and organization. It had excellent commanders, such as Tarkin. It had borderline godlike weapons like the Death Star. It had all kinds of shit. If the Empire was in anyway realistic, it would be borderline overpowered. But hey, i guess we can't decide who George Lucas has a boner for and who he doesn't... *mumbles angrily in ancient sith*

The Imperium of Man (Warhammer 40k) vs. The Empire...Who would win? I think the Imperium. A grim dark empire with fewer worlds but the experience of waging total war for 10,000 years, no morale problems, the potential alliance with the Empire leadership (including Emperor Palpatine), and absolutely no qualms about waging a total genocidal war of annihilation on a scale that makes Alderaan look like a minor incident makes even the relatively outnumbered Imperium capable of either absorbing/combing with the Empire or defeating it. And the doesn't even take into account the other races/particular setting of the Warhammer universe fucking with the Star Wars one. I'd love a Warhammer 40k/Star Wars crossover.
