Dark Souls 2 and 3 also had an official prop hunt mode, well not really a mode but rather there's an item that allowed you to turn into a prop which was super handy to not only hide from player invaders but to also observe what they had equipped.
The joy I get when my friend walks by me, turns around and just sees a fucking vending machine running away then screaming "THAT WAS YOU?!" is immeasurable
Great video! Really enjoyed the research that went into it. Would love to see a video on The Hidden Sourcemod! Another source engine mod/game that I loved watching SeaNanners play in the early 2010s but hasn't seen the same level of success and longevity as prop hunt
Hey Richter. I have something that might interest you. 10 years ago I frequented a TF2 server named "The Old Bunker". It had a very special map and I am currently trying to find it. The problem is that this map seems to be impossible to find. I have the maps name, some screenshots, and a video of me playing on it. I also know someone who I used to play with on it. Do you think you could try to help me find this map? You might not have a personal/emotional connection to it, but for me it is a very special map. It is called "trade_warzone" and I just can't find any leads on it!
Ahh man! I have so much Nostalgia watching DanTDM play PropHunt in GMOD, I'll say, PropHunt is probably the PEAK of Gmod..... Nah, actually Roleplay servers are, but PropHunt comes close!
He said he was -6 years old in 1998. Every video I’m flabbergasted at his actual age thinking I was pretty young for gmod. Such a confident and well articulated speaker I’m jealous you’ve developed these skills so quickly!
I'm always surprised to realize Richter is a year younger than me, I feel like I'm so young and yet here I am enjoying old Source nostalgia from someone a little younger than me!
Oh hey that’s me @13:26 👀 My version of PropHunt was inspired by the TF2 rendition. I had to push Roblox in some stupid creative ways at the time because custom characters were hardly supported and the engine wasn’t as well documented. I would delete the character’s legs so they would glide around on the floor, then I’d make the prop a hat worn by the player. Roblox didn’t allow us to control object masses at the time, so the large mass of the props made it super difficult to rotate your character, and sometimes jumping was outright impossible because the prop was too heavy. I had a lot of fun making it though, and I’m still developing stuff on Roblox today 😎 I was 13 approaching 14 when I made the game. The March 2010 date is actually just when the game’s place was made (it was used for something else previously). The game itself actually launched in August of 2012.
@@caxo1361 Hey let's be respectful alright? I'm not sure what max did to you but being an asshole to him because he likes making roblox games is extremely disrespectful.
Thinking about my first and one of few only games of Prophunt, I remember winning us the round. I played a hider and nobody told me how to turn into a prop, so I just hid on the office map and closed a stall door, t'posing as Kliener for the whole match. Somehow nobody found me, and I hold onto that memory dearly for no particular reason.
I remember playing and people would just go to up something above the field of view of the hunters, no one ever looks up, so they would win even as Kleiner T-posing...
Prop Hunt is probably one of the best hide-and-seek gamemodes to ever exist in video game history, the idea of becoming the object itself to hide is truly unbeatable
@@EngiGODS358I haven't yet but clicked to save it in my history to remember (I'm currently working). But after reading that, it saddens me (is that even a word?).
Prey (2017) is easily the single best video game I’ve ever played, and was my gateway into the genre of Immersive Sims. It keeps me up at night knowing I’ll probably never play a game that good again.
I've always been a fan of hide-n-seek gamemodes since I first played derivatives in various Minecraft minigame servers (Hive's "Block Hunt" and Hypixel's "Farm Hunt" were two I particularly enjoyed as a youngster), and I fondly remember a "jetpack trick" you could use with the Flamethrower in the TF2 rendition of the game mode. One part of the video I felt was a bit sloppy was the section on Fortnite. So here's a bit of clarification on prop-hunting in Fortnite: First off, the overwhelming majority Fortnite's custom game modes are community-made (the only official ones are Battle Royale, Save The World, Festival, Rocket Royale, and LEGO Fortnite). So the modes you looked at are just as unofficial as the custom servers back in the day. The item featured in community-made maps/gamemodes was added in mid-2019, the Prop-o-Matic, and was designed specifically for prophunt-type gamemodes to be made by players. That being said, Epic Games *has* included some prop-hiding items in the past to the Battle Royale mode that actually work quite well in gameplay (and I have actually seen them be useful in combat, and dying to it at least once this month alone). I've listed them in chronological order of being added for convenience. - The oldest example of a Fortnite integration of hiding as an object comes from the game's first season, with the Bush equippable. This item was present throughout the entirety of Chapter 1, and unlike future props, you could actually shoot back whilst hiding in it! It also blended in extremely well with the smaller and more vibrant bushes the C1 map had to offer, which is probably why they vaulted it in Chapter 2 (due to the island's foliage becoming more subdued in colour and also larger). It did make a brief return in November 2023 for the OG season. - A couple of items exist that let you throw down props and hide in them, and also walk around wearing them. Two that come to mind are the Creepin' Cardboard and the Sneaky Snowmando, both of which act in the exact same way and were both added during 2020. - NPCs on the map (first introduced in C2S5 in late 2020) can sell you items like heals and weapons for gold bars (obtained by looting containers, killing players, and completing bounties), and some offer special services. Some of these include more combat-oriented support like hiring them as a teammate, but the one concerning the video is the "Prop Disguise" some can sell. For 250 bars, you can be turned into a prop - some wackier props include Slurp Juice barrels, a small bouncy pile of tyres, and a mailbox. I recently died to someone using the mailbox in a junk-filled area (when I myself let my guard down trying to buy a prop disguise myself lol), and I found it hilarious, just like the old Prop Hunt days. - For a brief period in 2021 (during C2S7), an item that let you actually select what prop to use in BR was added - the Prop-ifier from C2S7. It let you pick from some wacky props again, like a gnome statue, a toilet, or a traffic cone (among others). It only lived for a month, though. Hope this clears stuff up regarding how Epic Games is involved in this saga featuring the iconic formula of hiding-and-seeking-with-funny-inanimate-objects. :)
It's wild to think that the original Hide and Seek creator made an great gamemode and suddenly vanished more than 15 years ago. Maybe he will reveal himself after this video?
I remember when I was starting to join a bunch of Minecraft servers (Such as Mineplex, Hypixel, The Hive and so forth) I would play their version of Prophunt called Block Hunt
yeah i don't believe for one second that Boxwar isn't inspired by and coping CrateDM. the creator can claim that all he wants but its so obvious. what an insanely bold faced lie from that guy. like its still a cool mod, its just a blatant copy.
Witch It is a game based purely around the concept of prop hunt, it has a lot of personality too with a unique art style and Halloweeny theme, that’s definitely one I’d recommend.
It's crazy to see how popular prop hunt got and for a good reason it's a good game mode and I'm happy that it did because it's a game I enjoyed and loved playing it in different games like cod surprisingly but it's also in overwatch now.
My man didnt mention trouble in terrorist town when talking about counter strike modding scene. A mode that eventually would lead into the meme game Amongus
who really asked tho? he's talking about prophunt, not about native americans going to space and then have the old guy become a god and shit. good riddance that beth just made a completely different game with the ip name
Black ops 3 also had prophunt which came out in 2015 people would jump into random wallruns and freeze them selves so you would always need to search random tops of walls
"hOw DaRe YoU sAy TfTwO pRoP hUnT iSnT gOoOoD!!11oneAAAA" Just kidding! it's okay to not like TF2 Prop Hunt :) I was definitely one of "THOSE" people who have played the TF2 version (and ONLY that version) for 2000+ hours (and almost 10 years now, started playing it since May 2014), and all I can say is the high level meta of TF2 Prop Hunt is bonkers insane and has made it one of my absolute favorite games of all time (even got to meet a friend in that game in person! it was cool and fun as hell) I definitely miss those chaotic days since it's no longer being played at all anymore, but the memories of all my old friends and the lovely maps are forever burned in my brain
The thing that feels that makes it still feel alive a bit is Vanoss, The Gaming Terrorizer, H2O Delirious, Nogla, Basically, and a few others, they’re still playing playing it all in GMOD with new maps made for Vanoss.
I'm quite surprised that CoD:MW Remastered of all games got it's version of Prop Hunt and I was unaware of it until I've watched this video, perhaps one good thing that ActiVision did accross the lifespan of so many Call of Duty titles. Also, given the influence of Prop Hunt as an old Quake 2 mod all the way to Fortnite and so on, it does make me think if other add-ons such as Gmod Murder and TTT had any influence on indie titles or other triple A games like Among Us.
So, i know ho u usually do GMOD args, but can u do a guy called “AndrewGaming67”? Its a minecraft arg about a guy playing a world of he and his old friends mc world.
