What Happened To The Final TF2 Comic?

I don't really believe that 4chan version of the final comic. -The Administrator's last hour on Earth being so essentially irrelevant is very silly when it was the major cliffhanger of the previous comic. She literally just had a conversation and tried to press a button -What power did the Administrator even get out of her blood debt? It wasn't living forever, because that is tied to the natural resource, Australium. Elizabeth says she spent an entire decade hunting it down, no eldritch pact required. -While it's true the Administrator orchestrated the gravel wars, the purpose simply being to cause as much death as possible is just weird. This isn't Emesis Blue, the actual canonical number of deaths in the Gravel Wars probably isn't _that_ high. It's far more likely she orchestrated an endless war so she could ingratiate herself with the Manns, who both needed endless Australium, and retain access to their supply. -How Saxton's plot is resolved also feels weird. Mags apparently goes nowhere and just watches in horror while the plot happens? (especially odd as the writers introduce Mags suddenly, but seemingly with a deliberate plan on what to do with her) And, even worse, Olivia is pretty much entirely written around. No, Darling does not become "technically the CEO", Olivia is still the CEO. _(it's also very strange that Olivia would turn out to be the child of Mags/Darling who Gray Mann apparently kidnapped and raised as his own for no reason?)_ Of course, the TF2 comics are absolutely absurd, but this alleged leak just falls apart the more I think about it. More importantly, I personally really doubt an actual script exists for the comic. While they did _start_ working on it to an extent, I doubt there is a finished script and am more inclined to believe the reason it hasn't been finished is because _ALL_ the creatives behind it need a chance to work on it together

But the story contradicts Scout's death date? He should be alive at least a few more decades according to lore.

Do Valve really allergic to finalizing the stories they made on their games?

I really did like the comics, it was a really nice way to get invested in the lore of a great game. It’s just such a shame, it never got a proper final.

I agree with the leaker, the whole "Ha ha fuck you everyone dies" is a really underwhelming ending, especially for the comic introduced characters.

there are actually some unresolved stuff like the absence of the Classic Medic so him not being in the 4chan leak really ruins the chances of the 4chan story being canon.

Even if it's necessary due to the mercs being killers, it's quite sad to imagine them all dying in such a sad way due to some asshole that got introduced at the last second. The best ending would have had the mercs somehow inconveniencing that being.

honestly, I think Pyro being a successful businessman should have returned as a plot point near the end maybe have him somehow give his company to Hale instead of Scout giving his merch stand away?

Honestly I have a hard time believing that the writers would just...end the story like that. All of that time developing the mercs and the background characters only to basically pull the "rocks fall, everyone dies" card on the entire setting? I personally feel they'd do more of a "the adventure continues" type of ending where the administrator is defeated but the mercs stick together, basically acting as Hale's taskforce/guy squad.

TF2 was always about two petty brothers fighting over gravel, so making it about a spectral Lincoln making the battles happen is getting rid of the charm of the lore. When scout dies god says he's gonna see him in December 4th 1987, when medic dies he asks the devil to give him 50 more years. It feels to much like a fanfic more then a proper 7th comic

The only unrealistic thing about that greentext was that Saxton Hale would have 100% stopped the nukes SOMEHOW, with the whole ordeal ending up as another Hale's comic.

I have to admit, the idea of Scout giving the title of the CEO of the Tom Jones Memorial Museum to Saxton so he can beat someone up is a genius idea

Eh i doubt this is real. Especially the last "war begins anew" part, because the mercs/mann brothers didnt fight over Australium, but over gravel/domination. And the cosmic entity is literally just a reskinned Gman. He even repeats his actions from opposing froce (activating a nuke)

I swear if this blows and reached to the writers and artist we might get a confirmation or they will finally remember.

Fun fact: The ending described by the 4chan user contradicts a previous statement in the comics. God himself tells Scout that he's going to die on the 4th of December of 1987, not when the missiles are launched.

Something really important to remember is that the comic was never made. The script was, in a literal sense, a draft. Assuming it's real, it's easy to read it and think that this was the exact narrative we were going to get; the intended canon ending it was meant to have all along. But that's not how the creative process works. Were the team to actually get together and make it, every element could be potentially changed. Scenes could be changed to work better visually, to flow better, to be funnier. The whole team would discuss every moment and if they came up with a better idea, at any stage of the process, they could change it to do it. They could decide to take it in a different direction, or even decide they don't want the ending where everyone dies. If real, this script draft is ONE way the story could have been made, but it doesn't mean it's how it would exactly end up after they go through the process of creating it.

I didn't like that ending. It fits TF2's sense of humor, but I don't like the idea of reseting everything and losing our beloved mercenaries :(

To be honest, the sandvich saga is, in spirit, probably THE final TF2 comic.

Honestly, that 4chan post seems unlikely to me. The first half, with Hale getting his company back - yeah, that seems like how the TF2 universe works. But the second half... doesn't make any sense. Why would the Administrator become young just to chat with a ghost-like Abe? Why it ghost-abe launch the missiles when minutes before it was stated he'd get blown to kingdom come as well, and hence LOSE pretty much everything? Also, suddenly a lot more swearing in that part of the story. Honestly, due to the second half, I'd say it's made-up and not the actual script, at least for the second half.

The blood debt thing seems to imply the Pauling purgatory was an actual thing that happened. Which I’m not sure I follow. The comic ends on the note of Admin wanting something since she was a child, and I doubt it’s blood or power. She clearly never got the power she wanted and I don’t get why she had to turn herself young just to turn on some missiles to die instantly after. It doesn’t make any sense, how does this wrap up all the set up happy endings for the mercs. Heavy was supposed to move away from Siberia with his family, scout is supposed to meet god again and his Tom Jones memorabilia would be worth a fortune now, sniper can find peace and probably hunt down his traitorous dad with a well placed bullet doing what he loves, soldier gets married and settles down, spy will probably see scouts mom again, etc. It feels like a complete waste killing off the mercs after they apparently successfully stopped the nukes like 3 times after a heartfelt gathering (even though this situation literally happened before and none of them actually wanted to say goodbye to eachother).

As much as I like the wacky concept of this ending, I read the comics for the mercs who were often pushed aside in the narrative to allow for Saxton, the Mann Brothers, ect to be the main players. Not saying I didn't enjoy that, but it was always nice to get moments between actual characters from the game since they're the most beloved. Also I've always wanted the comic to end with them all fighting the Administrator in a huge boss fight (perhaps a game mode could feature this idk) and once they've won and saved the earth, Soldier and Zhanna get married and it ends on that chaotic note.

honestly, just knowing that there’s a comic for a game as goofy as this got really intrigued to learn whatever lore there is scattered around each comic. those were all lies i just wanted to see more of the funny happening.

For me, the comics being incomplete for years feels like something suitable for TF2. Adds some sort of ridiculous absurdity. However, that would do if they did not start the 7th chapter and just let the all affair be with the huge cliffhanger. But when we know they actually started working on it, it feels quite unfair

In the 6th comics Scout dies and there Is a date were he is meant to die again (December 4th 1987) but TF2 takes place in the 60-70s If that is the case then him dying before that in the comics is a little strange to believe.

Personally, if THAT'S how it was supposed to end, yeah, I'm glad where we are. The potential Half-life connection (as the entity feels a lot like G-man) is nice but the world just ending is such an annoying and extremely underwhelming ending. Like, all your favourite characters are dead, it's a wrap up. That... just feels so anticlimactic. The final panel of cavemen being enhanced with australium and fighting each other is nice but it leaves a very sour taste of seeing all the characters just die.

Good rundown. My only gripes with the "leaked story" are 1) I'm not a fan of "the apocalypse happens and everyone dies" endings, but of course that's just preference, and 2) "the timer restarts... they break the panel, but the rockets launch anyway" is cheap as hell and has NO explanation behind it, so it feels like the biggest plot hole in this supposed script. Of course we're reading the general outline and not the comic itself so maybe it could be justified, but without details it feels like bad writing and a cop-out to me. Maybe I'm just too attached to these characters and don't want to feel bad if even one of them canonically dies!

What would make this ending even more fitting would be if Pyro was still alive and with the red cavemen, that would make the mystery of who or what he is even bigger

If I had a nickel for every time a cosmic entity took the form of Abraham Lincoln, I would have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Idk why but knowing that the merc were (possibly) meant to die at the end of the comic makes the line "We're gonna live forever" hurt a little

An idea for why the comic didn't get created is because they wanted to leave it on a high note? TF2 is a timeless game, thanks the style, characters and story. So killing off the characters and just saying it starts anew sort of takes away the timeless charm of the the lore and game. Leaving it on a high note allows fans to speculate and create their own endings without having to say the mercs died thanks to some cosmic being that came out of nowhere. This is my opinion though.

When you think about, medic is probably survived nuclear bombs. After all, he still had 8 souls while devil only had one

The pannels where Tom Jones is holding Scout's dying body only for Tom's form to slowly fade into Spy's in a puff of smoke are honestly incredible and it's baffling that they came from a comic made to tell the story of a bunch of mercenaries fighting over a hat factory fortune.

2:18 I actually thought Left 4 Dead was one of the few Valve properties that actually concluded, the other conclusion being Portal 2. The remaining L4D1 survivors found their boat and went to the tropics, while the L4D2 survivors made it to a branch of the military that is "equipped for carriers", and the bridge exploding showing they are now probably in a quarantined area without any infected. I know there could definitely be another L4D comic showing what happened to the new survivors after they got to safety, hijinks follows those groups like the Green Flu itself, but I always interpreted that Parish ending as a victory and anything could still happen on the mainland or in other countries. But I would always be glad to return to that world with more comics or the unfinished Left 4 Dead 3, I was still satisfied with what we got as an ending.

I just want a resolution, I don't even care if the comic isn't finished or anything. I would kill for just a quick summary of the events within the last comic.

haven't finished full video yet (obviously) but i always found a lore tid-bit quite strange if all the australium in the world is gone, then how is saxton hale still buff unlike the other australians? at some point, its mentioned that the australium actually runs through peoples blood what if, for more of it, the administrator has to fight hale and leech it out of his blood? just a thought..

The one thing that stands out to me that _might_ lend credence to the greentext leak is the fact that the Administrator's motivation is specifically a pact for blood. After all, what does the Admin say in Ms. Pauling's near-death experience when asked what she wanted? "Blood. I need more blood." Kind of a non-sequitur in the moment, but if the greentext leak is legit, it would be a nice bit of foreshadowing.

Portal 2 is honestly the one game I can recall they actually "finished". It had a great ending, no cliffhanger stuff, just a nice ending. Every other game however, either never finish or make a new game to retcon the old ending. Or do some weird multiverse theory.

I Kinda imagined something similar, but with the administrator aiming a superweapon toward the Badlands where the soldier ends up sacrificing himself, and the comic ending with heavy In the future telling to story for soldiers kid and the last panel teasing the next generation of mercenaries

I'm personally VERY unsatisfied by that ending, ESPECIALLY to do THAT to Scout, myself being someone who's heart has been broken more times than I can count, I do not find that funny or interesting in the slightest, rather in fact I am furious at it, and am now glad the final comic hasn't come out.

TF2 comics feels like reading a book while being on drugs. Sometimes (in my opinion) events just happen too fast to the point i don't know how it happened... In the end, im still waiting for the seventh comic to release...

That "leak" is totally bogus. There are a lot of parts of the story that just doesn't fit with the rest of the comics. I have no idea how it makes to you, but the writers aren't stupid. For example, they wouldnt have engineers dad be working as a merc after all this time while his son works for a totally different team of mercs. The writers are better than that. There are way too many forced moments too, the admin and pauling kissing?!?! Ms Pauling has been working for her since she was a kid! Admin is basically her mother, thats just dumb and forced and beneath the writers. If nothing else, the means of that user getting the leak doesnt make sense. He supposedly recollects enough of it to coherently detail the entire comic? If he had a source for it that he was refering to, wouldnt he have shared a link instead of trying to explain everything himself? Its common sense that that idiot didnt see any sort of leak. He made up a story, and you just kind of fell for it. Even with that logic hole, I cant stress how much of a dip the quality of the story in this comic is compared to the others. So much so that It can possibly be believed. Nothing subtle or nuanced or even beneficial to the rest of the comics.

I actually disagree. I think a conclusion in which every single one of the mercenaries dies is worse than not having a conclusion at all. The same thing would apply if instead they lived happily ever after. Tf2 is supposed to be the immortal game where the fighting never stops, and both of these endings contridict that. The bit about cavemen fighting seeks to remedy this, but it's just not the same, Tf2 is about the Mercenaries. I'm fine with comic #7 never releasing if these are the only options the writers have left.

I feel like if fortress films can make a master piece like emesis blue, I feel like someone can make the final comic with a coherent story and bring the story to an end

honestly I have to agree, that (alleged) ending felt disappointing. like in the end all the characters died because some out of nowhere entity launched a bunch of nukes felt lazy. also the whole Miss Pauling and Admin romance is a bit forced in my opinion, like I always saw their relationship as more of a mother-daughter type with Pauling being like the daughter that the Admin never had (also there's the whole age gap thing).

I feel like asteroid would work into the story better if the panel after the nuclear war was some cosmic retelling of a future mann co and mercenaries fighting over australium on the moon, as parts of snipers mums ship were found. A sort of endless story where every time the world ends, it restarts slightly different

Man idk how everybody is saying that the greentext comic would have been great and is a "perfect conclusion", most of it is random bullshit that wasn't hinted anywhere else in the comics and the whole Eldrich being that looks like Abe Lincoln sounds just as bullshit and made up as the rest of it. TF2 nonsense at least has some consistency, but the greentext has absolutely none, with things just happening for no reason. Why is Olivia suddenly where the Mercs are? Why did Charles Darling show up too? Why did Administrator make herself young again and waste all that Australium if she were just planning on blowing everything up to begin with? The conclusion of the cavemen just fighting is also just kind of lame. I do agree with Asteroid being apart of plans that never worked out, and likely tied into Comic 7, but the greentext has absolutely nothing to do with Space aside from Sniper's mom just being in the rocket. Overall I hope we get the real comic 7 at some point and that it's nothing like that 4chan mess.

I'd hope the 4Chan post isn't the true ending. It's not *bad* of course, but it sure as hell feels underwhelming. Something about the *"And then they all died lmao"* ending just doesn't sit right for me. Plus that means we lose Soldier and Zhanna :(

Something I just want to mention. I could of sworn that on the map doomsday there a warning label explaining that when austrialium make contact with alcohol it will explode. And since snipers mom is in an austrialium ship drinking wine, it suppose to foreshadow that the ship will explode in space and not just land perfectly back into earth years later like in the leak. And I spectate that the final comic would involves the mercs going to the moon into order to savage the wreckage for austrialium.

I think the TFC spy may have survived the soldier's attack, in TFC the spy can fake his death (similar to the dead ringer). I don't really think it has any impact on the story but it's interesting to think about.

I think the safest bet that we have that the 4chan story isn't the actual comic plot is that Valve didn't come in with a game to completely retcon the story like they did with Half-Life: Alyx after Epistle 3 came out.

Perhaps that whole thing with the cavemen beginning the red vs blu war anew could be a precursor to medieval mode, since, assuming medieval mode takes place during the actual medieval era, wouldn’t make sense since the gravel wars didn’t start until the 1850s, but if they instead start in this new caveman era, the medieval mode conflicts could be a perfect continuation of that.

It's true that the story given in the green text does make sense to an extent, but there's just one detail that doesn't fit: when scout goes to heaven, God says to him "see you on December 4th 1987'', hinting that this will be Scout death's date. Now that could be an hallucination, but we have no real explanation why scout and Medic came back to life, and they both encountered a mystical being (god in the case of scout and the devil in the case of Medic). All the other character had a reason to come back to life, but not them, so we have to assume that something paranormal was involved. Plus, god knew something that scout didn't know (that Tom Jones is not scout father, which is in fact spy). So it is actually unlikely that scout didn't meet god and that the date of scout's death was wrong. However, the way more probable counter argument to this hypothesis is that the writer just forgot about it and that it was a one time joke.

Here's an idea i had for a one shot tf2 comic! 30 years go by, all the mercs are dead with scout being the last one to pass on in his death bed, where he abruptly meets the rest of the mercs in hell. Despite this, the mercs are more then happy to take this eternal damnit ad time to tell stories all about their lives after the battles they faced, before forming a ass kicking party against Satan to get their souls back.

In a weird way, Valve's habit of leaving things on a cliffhanger has allowed them to avoid disappointment in their fan-base by not delivering potentially underwhelming final acts in their series, that so many other companies are known for. One could argue that the final part of any series is always the toughest one; It has to live up to of all it's predecessors and somehow recapture what made the previous installments great, while also delivering something completely new and interesting. By leaving their various series unfinished, they will always end on a high note. Why force out a conclusion when it's so risky? Just leave it open ended so fans will be left in a state of eternal wonder.

A headcanon of mine is that the Mercs defeat their corporate overlords and are free to travel the world (and magic dimensions courtesy of Merasmus) to pull off missions under no one else's supervision but their own.

This is probably only me but if this was actually the 7th comics story/conclusion to the tf2 story I’d Be Super Mad Because The Story basically ends With All The Mercs and side Characters Who We’re Likable Just Dead The Conclusion is Just basically all your Favorite Characters Died All Of Them I’d Be Super Mad if this was actually meant to be Tf2s Conclusion

The comic is genuinely one of my favorites of all time. It’s comedic and silly while still making us care deeply about the mercs. It’s a fine line it walks and it does it well

Just listening to the summary of the last comic and your theory on astroid, holy shit, it legit made so much sense, and I'm so thankful that at least something was made, and would be funny, but at the same time, they might be waiting until the game actually dies to then post it, as that would be towards the end of TF2's lifespan, but they didn't realize this game might outlast even newer games today. Thank you Richter, even if this is kinda fake in some way, I can imagine Rick May reading this in his soldier voice, making up some of his goofy lines while they do a goofy end that would mean that the cycle begins anew

I have no doubt they probably just trolled the community and hinted that if they finished the comic, than the series would be finished.

My theory is that this was an old iteration of the 7th comic and the poster to speak out didn't hear the new iteration which included all the space stuff. There's some things that contradict the ending such as scout's death date, medic's death date and the time traveling engy. Those could just be ignored however because logic isn't a strong point in the comics. It also sounds oddly similar to something I can't quite put my finger on

That leaked reading you gave defiantly sounds very team fortress and that got me thinking. I feel like the community could just…continue writing comics. If that was fake, then it was definitely in the spirit of the franchise.

My idea as to what would have happened was g-man still searching for someone or something that can defeat the combine finds the administrator and australium, he makes a deal with her in exchange for australium.

The leaked story sounds fairly good up until half way through when random aliens are shoved in and everybody dies abruptly, which doesn't make any sense lorewise considering Medic and Soldier are immortal (deals with the devil and magical pills from Merasmus)

From what I've seen of the comics, Red Engineer was never included in the story. If we ever do get a 7th issue, then I would hope that the full team is present in some form together, that would be cool.

God I've been wanting this comic so badly, I've been following them since they first started and my life might finally be complete if they release it lmao. I hope this video somehow gets through to valve that we still want the comic

My theory is was going to be used to announce a new PVE mode involving space travel. Where they reveal the origin of Australium was not on earth, and that australia in the TF2 universe was actually the result of a hunk of space rock that hit the planet. Said mode would have involved vehicles, epic space fights, and monkey ghosts... Lots of monkey ghosts. All to search for the origin of the golden rocks.

The possibility of Abraham Lincoln and the G-Man being related is something I'm glad I don't have to comprehend. (Yet)

left 4 dead 2's ending being unresolved actually implies that they got to safety and are living their best life now, while left 4 dead 1's ending is shown in the sacrifice comics where they get to the island.

What if the 7th comic ending reveals that bigger weapons company’s are getting their own mercs to get owner ship of mann co and its the main mercs job to make sure Mann co comes on top and it gets out of the bigger company’s hands and every battles ending in stalemates so it keeps valves iconic characters alive but also keep its ironic and funny ending on how every battle ends in stalemates

Just finished reading the comics about half an hour ago, absolutely loved every part of it. It’s horrible that such an amazing series was never properly finished and I really hope that someday the final one is released.

One thing that doesn't line up with the 4chan post is that scouts death was said to be in in the 80s, while the last comic was around an hour after the last If the writers did want to weave the whole world ending thing in then they could have made god say it was a few hours into the future And also an entity that looks like abraham lincoln could have some issues, because abraham lincoln is already in the comics and was mentioned as being the first pyro

The TF2 comic series is some of the best dark comedy content I've ever experienced. Even though we might never get an ending, it brings me joy to know that a gifted artist will no doubt animate the whole thing in SFM one day.
