How PSA Is Actually Grading Cards In 2024 (SHOCKING)

I think PSA is doing some serious pop control. All my big cards are coming back as 9's

The (MK) designation doesn't stand for 'miscut', its for 'mark', meaning there's a stain or some sort of marking on the card.

Was a bit surprised to hear you talk about structuring your orders as if that helps. Never bought into all that myself. Agree with the dartboard thing. They're having fun over there, finish your drink 5 dizzy bat spins then throw a dart and that is our grade. Never change, PSA

I got about 70 cards that I’m spreading over two PSA submissions, if I get fleeced on both, I’m 100% done using my time and money in this industry. Especially when I’m seeing better, more consistent returns in my other endeavors/investments and they don’t require all the tedious eBay/PSA tasks.

100% Facts I have psa 10s that I got on ebay that have a clear folded corner.

You are a smart honest guy you will be successful in any endeavor you choose. Finding something that fullfills you becomes more important the wiser you become.

When I started collecting in the late 90's, the only things I seen PSA graded were Mantle cards and shit way older than my dad.

Thanks for all the info. I did like you said and I had 2 Ohtani rookie cards that graded PSA 8. I cracked them out and resubmited them. 1 got a 10 and the other got a 9. I have a few more that graded 8 that I plan on sending in again, it shows you don't need to cheat by repairing and cleaning your cards. Just try sending them again.

It feels like a crapshoot lol. Last few times I’ve sent bulk orders for grading, cards I swore were 10’s got 9’s and cards I thought were 9’s hit 10’s.

It’s crazy, I was looking at my psa sub and decided to see what people were subbing so I looked at the number after that and kept going, saw this one where this no name prospects base paper 1st bowman cards worth like $1, he graded them and got 13 10s in a row

My last 6 psa orders , on spot 50% gem rate. The days of 75% hit rate are dead and gone

I’ve probably sent in about 600-ish cards to PSA and now have 3 new orders there. My Gem Mint rate is like 63%. From my experience, it seems as if it just depends who specifically grades your cards because there orders I’ve thought the grades were spot on, and others I felt some 10’s I got shoulda been 9’s or 8’s, and some 9’s or 8’s that were clearly better than some of the 10’s I got. So it’s likely sorta like when you go to a restaurant and the food is good one day and mediocre the next if there’s a different cook working.

What’s confounding to me is I just got a psa 5 on silver Rashee Rice Prizm. I have cards that are 5s from the 50s with rounded corners. It does make me think there are better (and easier) ways to make some money. It seems literally crazy that PSA has so much control over the market and yet so little inconsistency.

It's all true. Bumped up a psa 8 to a psa 10. 3rd try. Currently have 2 huge cards chasing a psa 10. Cracking a psa 9 is always worth it. Psa 9 have no juice

First off, I don’t use a binder, I use a Trapper Keeper 😀 Second, you should be ashamed of yourself for not calling him Gun Show Will Levis, Third, that’s clearly an AR 5. Yeah I've agree I don't think the grade them as had as can be. I just got a 14 card order back and all of them except 13 got 10s except the most expensive one got a 7 which I don't get at all but I think you hit it right on the head

Love the video. I think some of your points about sending in the same card several times and getting an 8 or a 9 every time contradicts your point about PSA arbitrarily giving out grades. But I still appreciate the info. You have more experience than me so I really have no legs to stand on

I wonder if the first AR 15 auto placement was the reason for the 9 cause they graded the overall card including the auto within the whole grade.

Had a bunch come back from PSA as 6-7 because they had some weird white smudge in the lower left corner. 4 of then had the same marks. Also 2 came back with badly dented corners. All issues are clear as day. No way I would have submitted them if they had those flaws. Not sure what happened. But the cards were even different players. So not the same cards from the same set .

If u resubmit a card to regrade do u still pay normal fee or is it cheaper?

I seriously am so confused- basically I started sending in orders to PSA recently. I've gotten a couple back now & cards that I swear are perfect are coming back 8's & 9's... in fact I've gotten ZERO 10's in my last 2 orders... And most of these are straight from the pack handled with extreme care, & are centered. I watch how you just Crack and resubmit on all of your nicer cards that you believe are gem worthy that don't gem, so that is the plan but I am disheartened. How many times do you resubmit before you eventually stop trying & accept it? Also if I have 5 copies of a card, how do you recommend submitting them? - all in 1 order one after another? Mix them up throughout the same order? or split them into different orders?

I put what I feel is my worst 1st. My thinking is the rest will look better. I have a great gem rate. No clue if that’s why or not, just the way I do it.

Psa abuses my orders with 8 and 9 grades and then I can tell the grader feels bad on my 5-10k order so they just randomly throw me some 10 bones but never on the high price cards that would make me decent money. The condition of the card has no correlation to what my grades get anymore.

I am so looking forward to the day AI does this and it's 100% the same across the board. Until then I don't trust this and I know it's a scam when dealers could get your card regarded and move it up from one or even 2 grades higher in circumstances. I know because it's been going on for 20 years and I had a Jordan 88 Fleer get a 9 when originally a 7 I resubmitted through a dealer.

I get PSA is the gold standard and has the best ROI. How long can that remain when most people know the cards in their holders are probably not accurate when it comes to grades? No other company could survive doing business like this!

your probably right so im not disagreeing with anything you say here but i will add that ive been told you can get a 10 with one or two minor flaws....as long as the four factors (centering,edges,corners,surface) average out to 10...for example i pulled a julio rodriguez throwback variation from heritage and it got a 9.5 centering but the rest got 10s so it still graded a 10. what makes what your saying here a fact is theres far too many cards that are PERFECT that come back 7s and 8s...its ridiculous to me to see some of the 10s ive seen of recent that look worse than some of the 7s.

In addition to PSA and Beckett slabbed cards in my collection I also have cards in binders as well top loaders. Not ever card is worth getting graded but then again I'm one of those peasants that you refer to and not a high roller. I wouldn't mind being a high roller one day that's why I look at your videos.

They were moving at a lightning pace, now seems like there is a serious backlog, or I was just used to getting cards back in 30 days. Just finished top loading a gang of my Topps Baseball and Pro Set Football cards before getting around to watch the video and read the comments. Here's the skinny: It's April, 2024, and common sense tells one: ..Because You could just go out and get graded cards in a 10, something is definitely happening here, ... and for a variety or reasons. I'll explain: Put simply: Why are the card companies not just manufacturing a complete graded card from the factory, and putting a decent price on them, ...instead of making the Public suffer and pay the price for shoddy work, having expected 10 level quality upon purchases made from the regular retail store.. 🤔 ... but instead; getting these somewhat delicate, cheap crap cardboard or plastic pieces of crap, - that easily lose their value the moment the wind blows, from; ..say a corner is either bent, the image off center, or the full sheets are rough cut from very dull cutting boards at the card factory? lol I sent in 10 future watch for dual service look out. Will let u know when I see results. Psa is same for me most cards I am certain is a 10 ends up 9 and vice versa. I decided I will just keep a box of game used mags and not grade them as psa is so hard on jerseys. But game worn jerseys are so cheap and so good from upper deck especially that it’s fun. Nfl product release calendar is so bad. Nothing coming out. I know gamble gamble loves to make 10% on cards not good enough for us. I agree we need double triple results to make it worth the trips to post office and eBay idiots and cons. 😂😂😂. When I go to card shows and people ask what I’m looking for I say cards I can psa and 5-10x 😅

I'm scared now 😂 I've only ever sent 1 card to PSA (always SGC), but i just sent 2 subs (a 10 card and a 9 card) thinking there's gonna be a ton of 9s or 5s 😢

Every PSA9 is a loss of money. So unless you’re getting 70% Gem rate which I highly doubt you’re wasting money. Especially when you’re sending it multiple times. Raw cards are selling for the same or more than PSA 9. PSA have you guys brainwashed

Let me ask you this. Are you buying all these at peak? The other thing I have an issue with is you keep sending the same card back. You can't polish a turd big mouth. Take the 8 or 9 and move on. Nickels holding up a dollar.

No offense but this video is the equivalent of a third string Div. 3 QB scolding Mahomes on how to play. You don't attend shows, you don't do vintage, you don't use other graders. You haven't even been in the game 10 years. You only do modern, you only do Ebay...
