Waaayyy better than most commentaries that are so vague and general, i.e., “Smith was a monster…Edey missed shots he usually makes…” and the like. You’ll be my first “go to” after Purdue games so I can validate (or counter) what I thought I saw.

Arizona gameplan over was to focus on Edey,, and to drop cover off the Edey screen, basically daring Loyer and Smith to shoot sith the defender retreating into the key. The Purdue guards ate them up. Other than a couple of really difficult drive floaters by Loyer, the guards had open shots. Similarly, slow drops to double Edey in the post, from man-to-man defense left the Purdue guards with open looks--that they hit at a high percentage. Also, Edey is big and smart defender that caused Arizona guards to hesitate on drives to the hoop. Good win by Purdue, and probably to focused of game plan by Arizona that took them out of natural play and did not work as intended.

I'd love to see a specific recap of each possession against that zone and how they chose to attack it. I thought it seemed a bit problematic at the time, but the "analysis" I heard afterwards was how it 'totally shut Purdue down'. I really don't think it was all that, but it resulted in some good looks that Purdue just didn't happen to make (which you noted).

Thanks for posting. How can Purdue or any other team do well against the Zone? Purdue does not run zone and they got flustered. Other teams will do Zone now to confuse and give Purdue a hard time. Thanks again!

I think a small part of it was they were just so caught off guard by the zone. Trying to get it into the middle more will help. Also, Edey missed 3 hooks and Purdue missed 2 open 3s. If they hit like 3 of those shots I think Arizona gets out of the zone quicker

@@FeedthePost totally makes sense. Purdue also was playing sloppy, turning the ball over, making bad passes, and as you said, Edey missed 3 hooks. Hope they practice it a bit more. The Purdue community is praying for Painter to play zone but he is not up to it. Of course, I am just a fan.... :)

@@Gstigs11 yes he did! Zone did not cause that. He just missed them. He did miss against couple of other teams, couple of games before playing az. As I said, there is a debate among Purdue fans, to zone or not to zone. Haha

If you're watching "film", you're watching old movies. You'd think these "sportscasters" would know this by now. A great game between two teams that will possibly face off in March. Purdue is notorious for collapsing but this time around , the surrounding cast around Eady is solid. These guys are fun to watch.

Simple analysis. Purdue had 5 players on their game. Ari,ona had only 2 playing at top of game. Any team in top 5 of country can beat Purdue if more players play at top of game than Purdue. Pretty simple really
